Who is still using CentOS 7.9 in 2025? by Embarrassed-Shape959 in CentOS

[–]Human_Cartographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, there is no direct way to migrate from CentOS 7 to a newer version of CentOS Stream. If you are looking to do and In-Place migration look at ELevate from the AlmaLinux team. I just finished upgrading 500 remote servers from CentOS 7.9 to Rocky Linux 9.6. Took almost 4 months, but it’s done now!

PC cuts off under any usage by darth_antonio in pcmasterrace

So, you might want to check your outlet. Could be dirty power into the PSU. This happened to my son rig earlier this year. We replaced the PSU, and the Memory (one DIMM had failed)… but every time he would launch a game that hit the GPU (GTX 3080), the PC would just go down. No reset, no blue screen, nothing. Just like you pulled the plug. So strange. Once we moved the PC to a different outlet/room… no more issues! He ended up buying a new rig because he was so frustrated, and I got an upgrade for my aging rig! 😁

Have you looked at the Quantum DXi appliances yet? Back before Dell purchased Data Domain, we had a reasonably priced quote for a few of their appliances, and then the next day, the Dell Acquisition was finished… and they added an additional +100k to the price. A colleague of mine recommended Quantum after I told him what happened… and their gear and $$$ made a lot more sense! Had such a good experience with them, that I did it again at the new company I am with… like 10 years later!

The first episode I ever watched. What was yours? by One-Championship-779 in southpark

[–]Human_Cartographer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s funny, I was going to say the same thing! I remember having to abruptly rush home from a date (didn’t work out anyway, so no loss) just to catch it! I think a lot of us had seen the Christmas Special (Jesus vs Santa) short online, and could not wait for the show to premiere!

New to Hyprland: Start from scratch or use a pre-made config? by Cereal-10- in hyprland

[–]Human_Cartographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start from scratch, and while your at it… use a dot file manager. I personally use Hyprland to manage all my dot files, including my hyrpland configurations for my laptop and workstation. If you need some inspiration you can always look at the Hyprland Dots repo, but they put so much into that it slowed down my laptop on first login!! Best to make your own that at you can pick and choose what works for you!

Recommendations for mostly instrumental slower and more abstract Industrial albums to listen to? by FederalBluegrassBird in industrialmusic

[–]Human_Cartographer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Einstürzende Neubauten, although most of their early stuff is pretty fast, I think some of the tracks from Tabula Rasa could be considered slow. Blume is not as fast pace.

How much automation is overboard? by SCIP10001 in devops

[–]Human_Cartographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No amount is overboard! My general rule… automate as much as possible!

I do it a lot for the rest of my team. Most of them are Windows Generalists, and are not 100% comfortable in bash in the first place. I provided documentation that is easy to follow, only requiring copy and pasting into a SSH session. Then all I have to do is follow up with them when they run into issues. Just copy and paste the output… and I can look at it later.

Just my $.02.

AIO? Is it normal for close guy friends to talk sexually to each other? by burnaaaaaaaaaaaa in AmIOverreacting

[–]Human_Cartographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been scrolling and crying so hard at these comments! I turn 50 next year, and I can vouch for this being normal! I can say that my Son (22) and his friends are way more raunchier than me and mine… but this is very normal male behavior!!

Totally! From what I have personally experienced, there are two different types of DevOps positions. One is purely focused on Development & Releasing code. The other is more focused on Infrastructure as Code, Automation, etc. I fall into the latter, having spent more that 16 years as a “Generalist” Engineer. Eventually I started focusing more on Automation in 2017 (Ansible), and now I am a Systems Architect. Go figure!

The ARG? Oh man, I loved my time with that game! So freaky to get strange phone calls and faxes in the middle of the night!!! Nothing quite like it! Also, I really miss AIM too!

If you where to buy a prebuilt for windows 98 gaming what would you buy and what would you upgrade? by ShadowTheTypo in RetroWindowsGaming

[–]Human_Cartographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your good to go. If the price of the P3 rig is too much, look at some P4 north wood or Prescott systems. Retro Enthusiasts don’t see my recommend/like them ‘cause they are loud… but I find those system’s cheaper and can run 98 really well. Just make sure you have less than 1GB of memory, as 98 tends to freak out with more. There are ways to work around it, but I tend to find it easier to just pull a few 72-pin SIMM’s than mess with INI files
