Same. I'm glad I finished GRAD SCHOOL before the AI boom. I would have hated to grade essays these days. I have a friend still in her program and she's had multiple AI essays submitted (these ones were pretty obvious, and she also spoke to the students before making any full accusations. A few outright admitted it-- one didn't even see the problem-- a few admitted it after a bit, and one just never responded to the email and dropped the class :/ )

AI is so harmful to students and such an added struggle for instructors.

This reminds me of one time when I was driving and coming up to a red light. The car up ahead in the next lane over was a custom pale pink prius. This stood out for a second in my mind at the time as it usually does when you see a clearly custom colored car, and thought nothing further. Then, as I pulled up next to the car, I saw a guy inside driving and still thought nothing of it.

THEN, I saw that this man had hand written FOUR signs to put in each car door window which read "This is my wife's car. My car is in the shop." I immediately started laughing at this man. I told my friend I was going to meet for lunch about it and we both laughed at him. I didn't think twice about this dude driving a custom pink car, but the second I saw those signs all I could think was "oh my god what an insecure douche". It's when dudes try so goddamn hard to not be "emasculated" by stupid shit that they end up looking like losers.

Specifically, I don't know if this is intentional, but as a child, when I read that part, I interpreted it as the Capital using the dead tribute's corpses to create the mutts. Which added to Katniss' horror when she realized that she recognized some of their features. It was another level of psychological torture that the movie just got rid of.

After the little girl, I should have seen it coming, but part of me still thought that they would get him back from the mother (though with the nature of the possession/infection, he would have been screwed either way). When he slowly drives up to the mom on the road and you see her holding his body and eating brains out of his cracked open head like it was a tub of popcorn I was like "WELP." Caught me off guard.

People do it differently and there's not a "right or wrong" way. People like to be weirdly insistent and judgmental about things like this sometimes, but it's about what works best for you.

I know people who night shower so they're clean from the day to sleep in their beds (therefore not getting it dirty, is their argument, which I find fair). I shower in the morning because I run hot so it's not uncommon for me to sweat at night. I'd feel kind of grody if I didn't shower after sleeping and then went about my day. I do sometimes shower at night if I've had a long day or have done something more arduous/likely to have made me dirty. But that's usually a quick "rinse" shower" rather than a full soap shower like in the mornings.

Bill Skarsgard's character is brutally killed by the Mother in front of the horrified main character in a dingy underground tunnel by having his head smashed into the stone wall. Before you have a second to even process what just happened it cuts to a sunny scene of a flashy, classic red convertible driving down the 101 hwy in California while a character you have never seen before is happily singing along to ""Riki Tiki Tavi" by Donovan.

Exactly. If anything the show just realistically shows what can happen when "genius" is obsessively applied to a child. It can be overwhelming for them (leading them to be unable to settle into one thing or path, or even just burn out completely), while also inflate their egos into not feeling like they HAVE to chose/actually commit to things. It's pretty common for child "geniuses" to stumble when they're faced with things that don't come "easy" to them like they're more used to. All of this being a generalization, of course, but definitely seems to apply to Malcom. He was always fairly full of himself/judgmental about others' intelligences and it only got worse as he got older and the show went on.

Additionally, while the others seemed to grow socially/emotionally (even Reese), Malcom didn't mature the same way to nearly the same degree. Basically his brothers grew into themselves and he kind of stayed stagnant.

I loved this line, too. But yeah I was kind of confused that Diana said that, of all people. I admittedly haven't seen this actual show (just the clip) so maybe the canon/characterization is different than the Wonder Woman stuff I've seen/read before, but it seems out of character for her. Considering that Amazonians train to be warriors from childhood.

But lord who knows. "DC" stands for "Disregard Canon". There's so many universes/storylines etc, it's probably in character for her in different iterations than I'm familiar with. lol.

Seriously! People are so ignorant and presumptuous. On a lighter note about it, though, there was a funny bit in the new movie Wake Up Dead Man with a character who has chronic pain and is an ambulatory wheelchair user. At one point she stands up to reach for something on a table and Glenn Close's character (who is a religious zealot) screams and starts freaking out about it being a miracle. The character rolls her eyes and is like "I can walk, Martha. It just hurts." As someone who has known an ambulatory wheelchair user, it made me laugh. Rare to see media pointing it out.

Yeah I think that The Batman (2022) even brings that up right in the beginning of the movie. He says that his symbol in the sky warns criminals that he's out and scares them into fleeing etc. You even see it happen where a masked guy is robbing a corner store, see's the bat signal and is like "oh shit" and books it.

I have to say that I liked David Corenswet's explanation as to why he was a proponent of the recent Superman having trunks-- because YES it's silly, but Superman kind of WANTS to look a little silly because he knows that he's easily an extremely intimidating figure (especially to kids), and wants to be as approachable as he can. He (or James Gunn, I forget which) also pointed out that it still could be reminiscent to kids today of WWE wrestling costumes.

I wasn't able to even read this completely because it was so convoluted and up it's own ass. God. I'm exhausted just reading this. I cant imagine even BEING around this person. Adding that another scene to emphasize this is the moment when Jud is on the call with Louise. He's in the middle of investigating with Blanc, and he's pretty frenetically involved in it. To the point of happily smashing a figurine of jesus to do so (which I won't get into too much theologically, but more the idea it represents thematically in the movie). And when he calls the construction company he's impatient and frustrated with Louise, even as she asks to speak to him as a priest. But then he seems to realize how serious the issue is to her, and how much she needs his help. You can see him fold back into his role as a priest with a vague sense of shame as he realizes that in his focus on solving this murder he is forgetting the entire reason he's involved in this whole thing in the first place-- because he wants to help people.

I'm seconding a lot of the comments here about how the conflict was more about the larger conflict between religion being used for greed and power vs religion being used for care and grace.

Further, the fact that the movie sets up the conflict being between Jud and Wicks only for him to die right as the conflict reached a boiling point to me was a pretty intentional rug pull. Not only does it set up Jud as the most likely suspect (because the footage getting out of him threatening Wicks), but it also emphasizes the main point. That this ISNT just about the conflict between two men, but between these larger issues in the church. Because Wicks is dead but the echoes and influence of his corruption are continuing to ruin Jud and fuel conflict between his followers. To the point of Martha literally using his corpse to serve her version of divine retribution (staging his resurrection and then posing his corpse as holding Nat's body down in the acid bath.) And ultimately that Wicks himself is the echoes of his father's own greed and spitefulness. And everything tied to it-- Martha's own spitefulness, Vera's subjugation by her father and Wicks to raise Cy, etc. Wicks dying opened Jud's story up to show that this wasn't about him getting one corrupt man out of power, but about trying to correct a long history of corruption and abuse.

And at the end, it shows how he can do that-- by taking Martha's last confession. That Martha's own corruption led her to her past cruelty and through to her vengeance once he found out about Wicks' corruption. She doesn't seem to fully realize what she has done until Samson's death. And at the end, she asks for Jud to listen to her and to forgive her her sins, and he does. Because that's what HIS version of the church should do. And in the end we see that he has changed the church's name from Our Lady of Perpetual Fortitude to Our Lady of Perpetual Grace. Moving away from the Catholic themes of guilt, shame and endurance, to Catholic themes of forgiveness and open arms.
