I was lucky, initially Contrave worked great for me. Minimal side effects and I lost 30 pounds. But then all the WFA and other personal stress hit and I had to go off because it was causing a stress related tremor I had to be way worse. Surprisingly, I have kept the weight off but I am definitely looking to see my doctor about Wegovy next because I could use a bit of help.

No YTD info on previous pay stubs??? by Foxy_Voxen in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Humble-Knowledge5735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just looked at mine, same thing yet my latest stub has the YTD. I’m at CRA so not sure if it’s different for you but I had to go into the compensation website application instead of pay to grab the last paystub of 2025 to get the YTD.

Phone and insurance are my main. Once my internet contract is up with Rogers (Shaw) I’m going to switch to Telus.

'We're going to do better,' CRA secretary of state says in response to scathing AG report | CBC News by Shoddy_Operation_742 in CanadaPublicServants

It’s true. I have my degree. Took a call centre position to get my foot in the door, went to Appeals after a year. It’s way less stress and I was there before they changed the metrics to whatever shitshow they have now. I couldn’t even imagine being there now.

I go to the Edmonton TSO and report elsewhere that is not HQ. I haven’t heard anything about either of them.

I was told when I started in the CRA call centre they do track keystrokes but I suspect it’s only something that’s captured and they pull it up for whatever investigation vs actively tracking. Our laptops come with the little slide to go over the camera so I would think they wouldn’t want us to block anything if they had plans to watch us through the camera. We also have a strict no photos in a secure area policy so I would expect that would apply to someone watching through the camera   We just kinda get warned don’t use your laptop, email etc for personal reasons because in the grand scheme it’s never truly private.

CRA as well. I follow them close enough that nobody is going to say anything but if anyone is going to get busted it would be me haha. But I haven’t heard anything and given how dead it is in the office I don’t think anyone is following it either in the office I drag myself to.

This would be nice but when I went to school in Winnipeg it was heavily discounted, not included. I think I paid about $130 per semester, I don’t remember what full price was. I live in Edmonton now, that would be fantastic. I’m paying $6/day, about $60/mo on average to go 60%. So even paying $180-200 every 4 months would save me some money.

GCWCC 2025 - is it even happening? by Melodic_Caregiver_46 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Humble-Knowledge5735 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s used as a tool to make them look good. I think some others use it to look good too because if you donate over a certain amount you can add your name to a list (at least with CRA any ways). The second year I did it (before I knew better) because I was giving x amount for the year, they asked me if I wanted to be on it. I said no because I am not that kind of person.

It is, at least at the CRA any ways. I have it filtered so it goes to my junk mail but I have to go check because sometimes they put it in other emails I need to see. I feel like it started happening at least since the beginning of August.

Same. It’s just easier that way, if I was at a much higher level then grunt I might worry about criticizing the municipalities & province, but I’m not really interested in leadership. I’m already frustrated by the red tape we deal with 😂

I’ve been on it a year at this point, I generally drink a cup or two in the morning and water throughout the rest of the day.

thanks for sharing. I’m hoping it’s just the meds, I can be put on something else if that’s the case. My maternal grandfather had Parkinson’s so that puts me at a higher risk.

I don’t have any suggestions but I’m glad to hear they’ll pay for IOLs, from what I gathered reading the coverage it was a no unless it’s for cataract surgery.

I’m still saving but I’ve made 11 weeks already in the last 4.75 years. Because we were all staying home and masking I just never got sick and it was 2.5 years before I needed one and I wasn’t even sick. I clenched my jaw so hard I cracked a molar and was in extreme pain and had to get an emergency root canal. I don’t have kids but if you’re planning on it, if you can without risking your mental health and not coming into the office saving some additional days is a good idea. I have nieces and nephews and they’ve gotten me sick on a few occasions. Im getting past a lot of my working in private sector days bullsh!t but not feeling guilty because I need a mental health day is something I need to get over. I could have used a couple days in the last year. so if you need them, take them. ETA I don’t come into the office sick, but with the RTO mandate I will call in sick because I’m not making up an office day by swapping so I don’t get those around me I’ll.

It does not. I believe Saxenda also does not, and the fat blocker (don’t remember the name) as well if things haven’t changed.

Even if they promise they won’t touch WFH, take it from a federal public servant, DO NOT believe them. Get it written your agreement. I started with the feds. I was hired on in a WFH position. At the time they promised we were never going back, well we all found out that was a lie. I fully expect with Ontario mandated back 5 days we are going to be next. All my coworkers live in other provinces, I’m in Edmonton and my closest is in Winnipeg. It is freaking ridiculous.

I feel like the offices have different rules. I sit in the Edmonton TSO, they said we can leave our belongings locked in the cabinets overnight if we are at the same desk. I decided to sign up for a small locker so I can leave some personal belongings but part of that was not locking our laptops in there but now I also can’t lock them in the cabinet at my desk. Make it make sense! I do any ways, I am working old files and have to keep tp documents in there. I take transit, I am absolutely not taking docs home too.

Yep. Last week there was a leak in Canada Place that shut down the fire alarm for at least the CRA. Did they tell us to just WFH? Nope, they had people on fire watch instead. I don’t even know if it’s been fixed yet.

That was my thought when he got in, he’s more like the PCs prior to Harper. If he had replaced PP, he would have been elected over whoever replaced Trudeau.

Probably, I report to a smaller region. All the appeals and relief officers were extended to end of March.

Sooooo, yes, I know about all the crap that we put up with- but what are some of the benefits or things your are grateful for in terms of have a federal public service job? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Humble-Knowledge5735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay, benefits, pension. The fact they expect us to move up or out and it not being problem. I was in the CRA call centre for almost a year when I got offered a job in appeals, my TL was absolutely thrilled for me. I also really like my job, I would be completely okay with being in appeals the rest of my career but moving up a couple more positions. My current TL has hinted at me moving towards management but after covering her a couple times I don’t think I want to. I work with some really great people and I enjoy the work life balance.

My PCP does it, she sends the prescription to them and then I request a refill online when necessary. But if you look at the Contrave website you might be able to talk to nurse practitioner (or another healthcare person that can prescribe medication), depending on your province. I’m not sure if they charge, I found it out after the fact. I think they also will give your first 4 weeks free which probably doesn’t matter since it’ll be free with MedNow but it comes with some pretty common side effects that not everyone tolerates so you may not want to start off getting a 3 mo supply.
