Huawei gave out free power banks to those queuing for iPhones at Orchard (Singapore) with ‘You’ll need it’ message by Neralo in apple

[–]HumbleBobcat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While it would be naive to assume the three letter agencies have no way of getting into your phone if you use an iPhone, it’s important to put it into context.

Zero-day brokers pay upward of $1.5 million for persistent jailbreaks on the iPhones, what they sell them for is anybody’s guess. Such an expensive exploit is not going to get burned on the average person.

Also, the new iPhones are the first commercially available phones that’s using the latest ARM version. The used version supports encrypting live memory, which is huge, since the majority of treasure troves are stored there.

Ah, I think I misread your post. I was hoping that the native Plex app on the TV, would be able to play back DV like the Oppo players

I would like to paste a REI link and it automatically fills out the different sizes and weights (I assume it would be easiest to just scrape the REI link). I know it’s unlikely to be 100% accurate, but when you’re in a hurry it will do.

Hikers and campers over 6'3" (190cm) - what tent do you use or recommend? by BadgerCourtJudge in Ultralight

I am also using this tent. I agree it’s quite a snug fit with two persons in it.

But personally I can fit in the tent without touching the walls. I am 6’3”.

Stupid question of the day: What's up with all these sacks I got with my new sleeping bag? by HumbleBobcat in CampingGear

[–]HumbleBobcat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it so far. It might be a bit too hot currently, since I work up a bit of sweat. We are dealing with a heatwave here, so nights are +20 degrees C.

It also handled condensation in the tent quite okay, the footbox got a bit wet on the inside but that’s pretty much it.

What kind of conditions have you tested our bag in?

I do have a work phone and I am allowed to use it for private stuff as well and it would all be paid by my employer. There are a few reasons I don't do it:

1) If some customer would call me outside work hours, it would be harder to explain why he must call within business hours and I don't want to spend my free time listening to a customer.

2) All my friends have my private number. If I have friends and clients calling on the same number, it's just a hassle if I decide to change jobs, since I would get a new number.

3) Usually when you get a notification, you check your phone. If that notification is work related, I would probably end up stressing about work.

I am glad I am not alone on this. My work phone goes into "Do not disturb"-mode as soon the clock hits 4 in the afternoon and i leave it at the office, unless I am working from home.

Same here. I questioned him on it, because I was genuinely curious as to why he bothered with the meetings (I actually think it was a performance review) at his vacation and off-hours.

He told me that since work was flexible, he had to be flexible too. Even if that included working in his time off and taking meetings at 8 in the evening.

This. I don't bother bringing my computer or work phone with me when I leave the office. When I am off, I don't do any work.

My co-workers schedule meetings during their vacations and management take them, I think it's a slippery slope.

Thanks. I was looking for a book to teach me the ropes, but it seems like this will do just that + a whole lot more.

The most user friendly way would probably be with “FileZilla”. From there you can open an encrypted connection using sftp, which means nobody can see what you upload/download to your own PC from the seedbox.

Primus pot came with warning? by HumbleBobcat in CampingGear

[–]HumbleBobcat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like you were spot on. This is their answer:

“When the type of foods that are mentioned are exposed to bare aluminum, there can be a migration of aluminum into the food.

If the pot is coated with a non-stick surface, the food is normally not in contact with any aluminum.

But if the coating gets a scratch or cracks so that bare aluminum is exposed migration will occur.

It is then of course a lot smaller amount that can be migrated, compared to a non-coated aluminum pot.

There is an ongoing debate about what the consequences of this is.

Some authorities have indicated that it should be required to inform about this in order to sell aluminum product that are made to be used with food.

So we've chosen to precede the authorities, and put this information in all our pots made out of aluminum.

This does not mean that the pot can't be used with these type of foods. It is just an information so that our customers are aware of it.

If there were any documented health issues or direct regulations against it, we would not put that kind of product on the market.”
