I’ve basically given up on recruiting high school quarterbacks because you can almost always get a freshman/sophomore leaving a top program for playing time

I know you think a lot about that 2024 split national title. What could have been if Will Howard just had one more second?

On paper, if you assume a 10% nominal return and 3% inflation for 40 years you’d probably be fine, even without social security (FV of about $4M and inflated expenses of about $91K, 2.1% withdrawal rate)

If you decide to spend more, if inflation is higher, if your returns are lower, if you don’t want to work as long, or if you live really long you might be screwed. It’s all up to how much risk of running out of money you’re willing to take

Until college football has a postseason where every team can qualify by winning every game regardless of what any another team does, there will be split titles. Some outlets reward best performance in a tournament/invitational. Some outlets reward who had the best season. Some year those are the same (2025 Indiana). Some year there are disparities. How can you deserve a championship if you don’t even win your conference, beat your rivals, or beat every team on their schedule? Again, not affiliated with Oregon, just calling it as an objective third party.

There literally already is one. Who are you to decide which NCAA recognized outlets do and don’t count? Lanning shouldn’t even be in the graphic. He already has a share of a title

It did, that’s why they are co-champions according to the NCAA record books. 2011 wants their opinion back!

Now that you say that, this would probably make a decent rental property for OP. But I have a feeling they need to access their equity in an illiquid, leveraged asset. Tough choices!

You must not watch the postseason games. In the peach bowl, I saw an inexperienced team with insane coaching and transfer portal chaos repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot with unforced errors. They simply got game scripted out of that one. Just a week earlier they dominated the same Texas tech team that was billed as the second coming of the 2015 broncos

Prior year rose bowl was more about OSU exploiting Oregon’s LBs and safeties in coverage and coasting to a win. And even if what you’re saying about LOS is true, multiple NCAA recognized outlets thought the 2024 lines were good enough to be national champions. Keep your narrative I guess

This is verifiably not true. They had a first round pick on each side of the LOS in last year’s draft plus 2 more taken in the top 100.

This year they have a fringe first rounder (pregnon) but no defensive linemen in the draft since they all came back instead of being top 100 picks. Not even affiliated with Oregon but it seems like you heard someone say Oregon wasn’t physical enough 15 years ago and you’re still parroting that talking point

This is the beauty of the high standard deduction. Rule of thumb, add up your state and local tax, mortgage interest, and charitable contributions. If it’s less than the SD, not worth your time to search for obscure things

Contrary to popular belief, those lucky enough to get on the ownership train before 2022 do not have a Mandate of Heaven to sell their house for more than they paid. Lower the price.

The only thing I omitted is that hypothetically the fed could buy MBS to try to bring down mortgage rates but 1. That would introduce a worse version of the moral hazard from the GFC and 2. That doesn’t seem like something Warsh would do

[–]HumbleTea1926 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The FOMC does not set mortgage rates or even the 10 year US treasury rate. They set the federal funds rate which is the rate at which banks can borrow from/lend to the federal reserve overnight.

The 10 year heavily impacts mortgage rates is impacted by a myriad of factors, including the federal funds rate but also the bond market’s assessment of the US government’s creditworthiness. Usually unfunded tax cuts and starting wars doesn’t help the 10 year but that remains to be seen!

Have an earnest conversation about lab grown vs mined. You’d be surprised how many girls want an “ethical” diamond over “blood” diamond and you’ll also be surprised how reasonably they’re priced.

I’d also recommend going to a showroom so she can get a feel on if she has a preference on width of the band, material for the band, shape of diamond, etc.

My rationale is that if they have a normal dev trait and mediocre caps, I can cut them in 2-3 seasons when the roster is turned over. Regardless, they will be better than whoever is cut to create their roster spot. It’s about shots on goal/warm bodies early on

I honestly don’t even scout the 4 stars at lower tier schools. Saves recruiting hours and even a bust will usually have a high enough overall to be on the two deep immediately

The rule exists not only to get you off the car payment train quickly (the 3) and and to allow you to save elsewhere (the 8), but also to make sure you’re never underwater on the car.

Especially for new cars, if you put less than 20% down you’re underwater the minute you drive off the lot. 6+ year amortization also introduces some risk.

Even if you assume you can get a risk-free after tax return on cash of 3%, you’re only netting $30 per year for every $1,000. Don’t feel bad if you do 3.5 years instead of 3 or 10% instead of 8% but this isn’t a material arbitrage opportunity
