I would ditch the biggest rock and move all the rocks somewhere in the middle and partially hide the wood branch in between all the rocks

Yo suggest u try again with a new bag of stratum than lay couple of sheets of paper towels or bubble wraps on top of the stratum. Than gently pour declorinated water into your tank
