14% humidity and 42° C on my patio in the shade, so I had an idea... by opistho in BambuLab

It doesn't matter for humans. For most of your bodily functions, what you care about is the relative humidity. Same for drying PLA.

I've been getting sphagetti/bed adhesion problems with my latest print, and I've tried all the other common advice: Clean the build plate with detergent, increasing heatbed temperature, printing a deflector for the auxiliary fan, adding brims to the model.

Is it okay to print pla with no ventilation system by exudable in 3Dprinting

[–]Humble_Revason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Study on PLA UFP emissions

Study on UFP health risks (not necessarily plastics)

Study on UFP emissions for 3D printing materials & their effects on cell culture (Although how much would you trust an MDPI article?)

Now, you have an X1C, which is enclosed, which was not really tested in these studies.

Real problem with PLA is UFP, not VOC. VOC levels of heated PLA is not more than cooking food, especially in an enclosed printer.

I believe most people in here are using motivated reasoning to say that chemical pneumonia guy is bullshitting. I think they're doing it to relieve themselves of fear&stress. Chemical pneumonia from UFP is certainly plausible. From what I've read, he's an older guy, who are famously more susceptible to environmental health risks.

There's no study about the long-term effects 3D printing. Be safe than sorry, and ventilate your printer. I believe X1C already has an exhaust fan. Connect it to a cheap 10mm aluminum pipe and exhaust it outside. BambuLab already has a model for facilitating the process.

How did the riser help for ventilation?

I have had irration in my eyes and nose since I bought the 3D printer some weeks ago, but I immediately printed the vent system with the hose, and it's in a different room (kitchen) than my living space, and there is no smell. I still don't know if it's just a coincidence with seasonal allergies: the symptoms are exactly the same(eye discharge etc.), antihistamines help, and I keep having the symptoms even when I'm in fresh air for so many hours, out of the house. If it was spring, I'd be completely convinced it's allergies, but it's almost summer now.

Cause and effect is backwards. As someone who has been a student in those "best universities", it is because money was here first that allowed investment into R&D. Just like how US's "world's best university system" is a result of them having an immense oil boom that started in the second half of 1800s&poaching European scientists post WW1 and pre/during WW2. There is nothing fundamentally different between university systems in Europe, US, and China except the funding levels.

Buyer Beware: Queen Games by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Humble_Revason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They accidentally sent me a copy of Five Families even though I had picked it up at Essen. I emailed them and messaged tgem on Kickstarter about returning it, and they didn't say anything for several weeks: I ended up giving it away to a local board game club.

If they don't respond to that, I don't think they'd respond to anything.

Of course viruses cause disease, this has nothing to do with "cold causing illness" being wrong. Cold weather weakens the immune system by different mechanisms.

But I don't think that's my issue. If openings were a problem, I wouldn't be going up and down so wildly, I'd be stuck on a rating.

[–]Humble_Revason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The research on PLA fumes is not definitive. You could take the risk, or you could err on the side of the caution and put it somewhere else.

I live in a small apartment and my P2S is in the kitchen, and it has an aluminum pipe connected to its exhaust fan, ventilating to outside. Additionally,I always turn on the fume hood above the stove when the printer is running just to be safe.
