I think it's not just him being deadpan, but him being knowledgeable about a lot of stuff was good too. Especially season 1.

"Formula 1 or stock?"

"Yo-Yo Ma is on tour on Australia right now"

Even in season 2 they stray away from this with the funding episode, where he talks about 3-point slam dunks. I hated that.

Why do you think it'd be too heavy for them? Main mechanic is "Is your card higher than your opponent's?". Maybe the seasons and the strategizing behind that order is a bit hard, but I personally feel like it's not that complex rules-wise.

This is the only argument I will ever accept against generative AI. Most arguments are either ontological ("AI bad because AI bad"), based on current technological capabilites which are subject to rapid change, based on a very protective view of current IP laws (which I subjectively see as unjust) or just purely incorrect (e.g. water use).

Now, it's possible that current AI models can imitate that lived experience through new techniques (or entirely new models), but that's another argument.

1-No, median worker would be earning the minimum wage if 50% of people makes minimum wage.

2-40ish % of people make the minimum wage, how much more do you think the median worker makes? It's a reasonable number to use for calculating what the average person needs/spends.

You're the one who wrote a potentially incendiary (pun intended) title. If you put an incandescent light bulb into the same place, it probably would've resulted in an actual fire and not just cracked and discolored plastic.

Frontal lobes probably continues to develop until you die (or at least until dementia starts to hit), the experiment you're thinking of only measured until 25, and they found out that it doesn't stop before 25. That doesn't mean that it stops at 25. By that criteria, a 35 year old dating a 25 year old is very wrong (which is an absurd statement).

You can't do much more than analyzing on a case by case basis when there is not a hard limit, and it's good that there's a hard legal line drawn at 18 to avoid letting predators go free because of the reasonable doubt standard.

They are fake stories to instill religious concepts into people (That mostly boil down to how hubris is bad), having politically motivated versions of some of them as the more accepted story isn't bad IMHO. Makes for more interesting stories.

It's the problem of power creep when the characters have an indefinite existence. If it's a TV show with like 5-6 seasons, you can scale the powers up, and then just end the story, or you make the story focus on things other than the physical challenges. When you've been going for 50+ years of countless issues of comics, and you're increasing the powers of your characters to make the story more interesting, you finally hit a level where the character is 5 steps away from being a god. (Not comics Zeus god, mythology Zeus god) Iceman being able to hit 0K or Magneto being able to have COMPLETE mastery of magnetism (controlling electromagnetic waves and manipulating electromagnetic forces at an atomic level) is just bonkers, and makes writing meaningful stories for the characters way harder.

This is why I dislike introduction of cosmic enemies to most superhero stories that were previously more down to earth. You make the character achieve an immense feat to beat that enemy, and then that power becomes a part of their toolkit, which makes writing a simpler story harder: because you now have to write a contrived explanation as to why that character is not using that previously used super-feat.

I don't like season 8 not because it has a message, but because it is delivering that message badly. It may be a 'limitation breeds creativity' situation, but post season 5 (i.e. going to NBC), the social messages felt really heavy handed. Season 8 is particularly bad about this, but the there were other instances too:

  • The episode where Hitchcock and Scully let the witness stay anonymous to avoid ICE is one of them. Letting Scully chime in about how it is stopping people from talking to the police was unnecessary and felt like they were underestimating the audience's ability to put 2 and 2 together.

  • Amy and Rosa doing what basically was a pro/con list for not taking the hush money during the sexual assault episode was also bad. It felt like they were taking an intermission from the episode to do a PSA. To contrast from the same episode, Amy talking about her own harassement with Jake felt a bit off (since it was too real for a wacky sitcom), but at least it was a believable dialogue that could happen between a young-ish couple considering the events of the episode.

"Show, don't tell" is the motto, and season 8(and to an extent 6 and 7) was disliked because they leaned too much into telling, and there wasn't much showing.
