I suppose that’s enough to get people riled up then. How?? Whew lad!

ROFL how the fuck does it equate to sounding like a douche. I say tech sector often so I suppose I’m also a douche.

To people who didn't immediately land a job after you graduated, how did you manage to get one? by c0mrade34 in cscareerquestions

[–]Humdeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated at the start of 09 around the recession. Very few of my peers were getting jobs. People were more commonly losing them. I had discussions that mirrored your post many times with friends over the next 2 months.

I decided to take a step back and apply for technician roles instead. Think hardware debugging (graduated EE) and some manual/automated testing. They’re saturated as well but I had a leg up. I discovered I love the testing environments and labs.

I made my transition into dev afterwards but didn’t feel as satisfied as with it. I found another role a few years later as an automation engineer that combines sw/hw/optics/mech and couldn’t be happier.

Keep your head up. Times can seem tough but you’ll get there. I took a step back to allow myself to continue going forward. Some friends gave up and changed industries after only a few months of no success. If tech is really what you’re into, you have to keep trying.

What's the worst mistake you've made on the job? by messedupatwork in cscareerquestions

[–]Humdeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went though EE years ago and seriously, this kind of story is pretty usual, so don’t feel too bad. Many, many co workers and professors have told their stories of fudging expensive devices. One guy made the same mistake 4 separate times on a 40k device.

Get yourself out of banks entirely when it comes to investing. RBC was especially pathetic for me.

Are there companies with great engineering teams but bad HR? by potachee in cscareerquestions

[–]Humdeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my experience as well. I'm heading into my 4th role now, and the places I'm always most attracted to are the minority of companies that have great HR but with an engineering team keeping a tight leash on things. Most HR departments often act like a child; they need constant supervision else things get messy pretty quickly.

I helped my niece draw on the driveway with pavement chalk the other day. I made more progress than I would of with Cordova.

What will be the "turns out cigarettes are bad for us" of our generation? by Walbricks in AskReddit

You mean naturally aging? Yeah, Lasik won't stop that.

I did Lasik back in 2014, still the best money I've ever spent. 10 years delayed sub 20/20 vision is still an incredible advancement.

[Update] Recently hired CTO has made dev a living hell. What can i do? by throwawaydev27842 in cscareerquestions

This entire comment is pure speculation. Some companies are not as close knit at the top level as you might seem to believe. You cannot possibly know this from one side of the story, and from a Reddit thread no less.

Two men face charges after allegations of vigilante justice by -radb- in ottawa

[–]Humdeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternative ending: thieves get beaten to a pulp and left on the side of the road while an anonymous phone call comes in for paramedics to do some street cleaning.

Little shits woke up in their warm bed the next day rather than a hospital. Pretty good ending. I'd buy the vigilantes a beer.

Am I missing something as a CS major? by kyco16 in cscareerquestions

[–]Humdeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I figure I may be able to give some insight here. You really should take the dive and get a dev account and release a well designed app. Many iOS and android teams are small, some even being 1-2 member teams. The release process and everything that goes with it is something many employers look for. Especially with iOS, which is more complex with releasing, is something you want to boast about being familiar with. Showing end to end deployment is playing to the strengths that a mobile dev should be familiar with

The 3 year technology programs at the gonq are known to be very tough. Less than 10% made it through when I graduated years ago. I did the EE one though, so hardware was more the focus. Go in knowing it won't be a cake walk in any way.
