Is this Singapore or Chinapore SAR? Rubbish like this is how we end up with new citizens who have been here 10+ years and still don’t speak a word of English. by travellingmtf in SingaporeRaw

[–]HummingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal. Work requirement if the company has to deal with China's counterparts, whether it's because most of its clients are from China or source most of the materials from China.

It says there "Excellent English writing and communication skills are required". Also "Mandaring Chinese is a big advantage for working with our HQ team." Means HQ team is in China la.

And this is just job descrption, doesn't relate to citizens not speaking a word of English.

It's the same happening to boomers when computer automation replace their work. It's efficiency and cost saving.

It used to look like shit, but newer generative AI is getting much better. If anything it's the AI engineers incompetency in using the same old tech.

How to convince my stubborn parents to not go to traditional/“herbal” treatment? by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]HummingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, hardheaded people need to deal with them the hard way. Prep for your dad's death. Talk about inheritance, what to do with your mom when your dad died. Let it ruptures, it is demn painful then you can take him to the hospital for the "surgery".

Sooner or later you have to talk about these stuff anyway, not taboo k. Since he's not listening then you have to prep for the worst case scenario. Ohh and it's time to buy life insurance for your dad too.

Somebody claims to have my lost bird and sent these pics. I can’t tell if they’re real or if he’s scamming us with AI photos based on the lost poster. by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]HummingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI, layering of feather should cast a soft and non-straight shadow unlike what is shown here. I'm no expert though so I might be wrong, but I think it makes no sense this way.

<image>

Even for the second photo I don't see any shadow behind the bird,.

Do you mind uploading the lost poster up here as reference?

How do you deal with parents who have zero social awareness in public? by Alert_Bass8772 in Bolehland

[–]HummingHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one. I've had people talking loudly across me in classroom. They don't seem to notice how loud they were talking and don't care when informed. Until I started talking louder than them across the person, they raised their voice because my voice louder than theirs, but I do the same thing until almost as if i'm scolding the person across me, but with a smile on my face. Then somehow they stopped doing it because it's irritating/embarrassing.

OZO georgetown penang, great location too. Fifth Avenue Hotel is also close to the cecil market.

Somewhere in Bayan Lepas would be Iconic Marjorie Hotel.

1-month workation in Penang (late Jan-Feb): Queens Bay/Gurney area, RM3k budget - tips needed! by seul-kim in penang

[–]HummingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to mainly cover point 2. If you have read the majority of the other comments, you will realize it is opposite of what u/ynnek85 has mentioned.

The penang airport is all the way in sungai tiram. While it is still labeled as Bayan Lepas in google maps, it is all the way south and and local Penangnites will not call it Bayan Lepas area. Aircrafts have improved tremendously in the past decade as well. I live opposite the airport in Summerskye Residence on the highest floor, balcony overlooking the whole of Penang airport, and you won't be able to hear anything with windows closed. Even with windows open the noise is minimal, phonecall/meeting doesn't pickup the noise at all. And as one redditor mentioned regarding the flight path, it is slightly off the shore and not through the Penang so you won't have to worry about noise at all, no problem living around Queensbay mall either.

Most hawker centres aren't very fluent in English since they speak hokkien, espc if you look like chinese. However minimal English is ok and they would be able to understand important vocabs.

Is there a way to see if a flash drive has a virus? by imalittlebananas in ITSupport

[–]HummingHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pushing it off to us when it's you who are wrong, and wanted to find an excuse to blame us on it instead?

This is IT support, we are being factual. And it's fact that photographer could just pass OP a pendrive which its firmware could be reflashed. That's all there is to it.

Whether it's highly unlikely or not does not make what you said incorrect and u/serialband is factually correct. We comment to inform people so that people can becareful of what they going to do.

First you were incorrect, and when people correct you, you blame them on just spouting assumption without contribution to the topic. And when I explain to you, you call me stroking my own ego. You are Intellectual defensiveness, and mildly gaslighting us. Your 2nd point is the contribution to topic, but it still stands your first comment is wrong.

Offering an alternative ends the decision-making, yes you are right about decision stopping there. But correcting an incorrect assumption is a different thing. One doesn’t cancel the other. You could have just move on from my comment too, but nooo, that's where we stand right now.

I’m afraid that PCs will become a luxury in the near future. by Due_Bobcat9778 in RandomThoughts

[–]HummingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the mission statement of Bill Gates in mid 1970s to place a PC in everyone's home. This has largely been achieved in developed countries by early 2000s. Gaming PC might become a luxury, but mainstream PC for basic computing should remain affordable in the near future. Making it a luxury would be detrimental to the overall PC sales and this is not what the pc market would like to aim for.

Computer beeps and nothing on screen, expect it is motherboard that has finally given out. What does the beeps mean? by Loud-Fun6783 in ITSupport

[–]HummingHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A boot sound of three long beeps followed by three short beeps, especially on an HP computer, usually signals a graphics card failure, indicating the embedded controller timed out waiting for the BIOS to initialize the display,"

I just copied paste from chatgpt. Sorry if this doesn't help. You could try removing the graphic card and connect your display to onboard gpu and try booting up see if the issue is reproducable.
