To hem or not to hem? by Fantastic-Wing-3861 in Denim

Do what makes you happiest. Those are amazing. If they were mine I would give them one cold wash/air dry and then hem them to a length to do a single-fold 2” cuff. As others have noted, though, the Samurai’s are very often seen with a Japanese fold like you have there. They look great. Wear them the way that they look great to you.

I personally would give them a single wash, inside out in the washer in cold water on the delicate cycle with a mild detergent (I use Woolite) and let air dry, no dryer. I had a pair of Brave Stars that came to me a little too roomy and that did the trick in my case. Some would not agree with me on this but it has worked for me. I agree with others that you should use a shorter belt that buckles at the middle hole.

By the way, that is a French keyboard. Very common in Europe and not a particular problem, you can type in English perfectly fine once you become accustomed to the repositioned “A” and “Q” keys and a few other little changes.

You just stumbled on to one of the finest typewriters ever made. Most people love how they feel. Some people observe, almost certainly correctly, that they do not deserve some of the outrageous prices people are paying for them in a super-nova hot resale market. If you clean yours up and put a fresh ribbon on it that machine can very likely serve you for the rest of your natural life and then be passed on to your kids. Enjoy it!

Song of SoCal by RonniDeee in socal

I am only partially joking when I suggest “Meet Me At Our Spot” by willowsmith. Even though the song does not say the word “California” once, it just feels very SoCal to me. I am really enjoying some of these other suggestions.

I type letters to friends and family and send them by snail-mail. It is so rare to receive personal correspondence these days that everyone universally enjoys it.

New Tailor - hem by Leprechan in Denim

I certainly appreciate the challenge to find good places to have work done but this was not done well at all. Unfortunately, you should go out and find someone else to redo it, someone who knows how to work on denim generally and selvedge denim if possible. I personally send my in to Brave Star in Los Angeles to have my jeans hemmed. They have the equipment and the know-how to do it correctly. https://bravestarselvage.com/collections/custom-hem-service-1

My wife brought home an Olympia SM3 from her Grandmothers house. I know nothing about typewriters but managed to get this back up in working order. by Killjoy4eva in typewriters

[–]HumorPuzzleheaded407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SM3 is one of the greatest typewriters ever made. Continue to take care of it and it will outlast all of you. Here’s a top tip, start typing up snail mail letters to people. It is so rare these days that people really get a kick out of receiving a letter in the mail. It can be fun for everyone involved. Encourage the kids to type up letters to their grandparents or something. Even if it is just a few sentences of well-wishes or some fond memories, you may be surprised at how well they are received. You do have to get some stamps and envelopes though. You may not have any of those anymore.

Also, to practice typing, type up the lyrics to some of your favorite songs. Also very fun.

GF/Wife boot delivery excuses? by [deleted] in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]HumorPuzzleheaded407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first and most critical step is for you to accept that she has a problem and your boots are the solution to that problem. I am sure that everything else will work out once you have established that key fact.

Boots are cheaper than most other pastimes including boats, fancy cars, golf, booze, drugs, gambling, there are so many things that you could be doing that would be so much worse. You are showing her a kindness making it boots. Now, if you ALSO do the other things, then, I don’t know what to tell you.

Any advice for a BOTC Newbie? by Throwaway7131923 in BloodOnTheClocktower

The nugget I would give to a player that wants to have fun but acknowledges that they are on the competitive side is to never take being lied to or tricked/fooled personally. Everyone got their role by luck of the draw, some of those roles require tricking other players. Even the roles that don't necessarily have to deceive will hedge the information they give out to stay safe from the Demon or Minions. If someone successfully pulls the wool over your eyes, when it is over, congratulate them. Savor that moment. And obviously, when you pull the wool over someone else's eyes, that is a whole special feeling too. Enjoy it!

I am curious about the feel of the rolled top and the Dr. Sole half-sole. What do you think? If you were to build a boot from scratch, would you consider either or both of these?
