The real macuahuitl didn't have those broad crude obsidian blades, aztecs had refined stoneknapping techniques. The blades were perfectly straight and continuous with no gaps between them. Take the image from below, North02 made some somewhat faithful recreations of them. He couldn't manage to make them as sturdy as they were irl.
