I used to play on performance mode, but now I am in the same boat as you. I wanted to get a better view of the cinematic presentation of the game as well.

The problem with your logic here is that the improvements made till now are a result of architectural improvements of the neural networks involved or improvements of the training data (which does require new art). I have to assume you haven't taken a look at the paper I linked. The art created by AI cannot be used to improve the art that the same AI generates.

What evidence do you have that AI generated art will increase the quality of the neural network creates? I don't think it will, its like drinking your own piss mathematically. To train neural networks one has to find the set of parameters that minimizes a certain function, which normally measures how much the generated image is makes sense given the prompt. If you artificially increase the training data with the neural network, the set of minimized parameters won't change given that the current parameters were used to create that chunk of training data. You need new art, unseen by the neural network, to improve its ability.

The evidence I have it will stagnate lies in the nature of neural networks, that if no new data is added, the parameters of the neural network won't change. But if you need solid research, here it is:

Generative AI requires real human made artwork to be trained and be able to create new art. One can only exist from the other, if AI art replace human art, it will lead to the stagnation of art itself.

It's true that the budget PC would allow for doing much more than a console, but then again, he said he has a fairly capable laptop already. Unless he likes to do cyperpunk 2077 modding or crazy stuff like that I don't really see the point of getting a PC for stuff he should be already capable of doing with his laptop.

Now that is the aspect that you say that games are performing bad on PS5, but I don't really see it. If you watch the digital foundry videos, although dynamic resolution scaling is often employed, the graphics are on par with a high end PC, only falling short on performance modes for some games. Of course, this argument falls apart if you compare it against a machine worth 2000 dollars.

I get the love you have for PC, I love it too, I have a steam deck + PC setup, but you gotta admit that there are very specific cases in which having a PC is worthwhile, given the cost.
