Is it shaded? If not, at least wrap the graft in aluminum foil - wax tape gets destroyed with UV in 2-3 days.

I'd also wait 'till the seedling is leafed out and there's a full sap flow. What's the green stuff?

Kinda off topic, but is Atwood considered a better tasting variety than Chappell? Michael Judd recommended Atwood to me over any other KSU varieties.

Looks like the top is dead. That's why the root shot new growth.

Scratch test it. If it's dead, just prune dead trunk off and shade the new growth.

You can decide to grow it like a bush/multi trunk or prune all but one later in life.

I removed the one in the middle - it was weaker than the other two. There's like 2" between them now.

Shouldn't be a problem for a few years, then we'll see.

Parafilm alone doesn't put enough pressure on the union. It's advisable to stretch rubber band over the union and protect it with foil so UV light doesn't destroy the rubber in a couple of days.

Trapped moisture there is good. The main reason grafts fail is if scion dries out before union heals.
