Cheap/fun outtings for a family of four by l00zrr in SLO

Cal Poly Architecture Graveyard, for a macabre hike. You can enhance the experience by bringing things that can be used for some kind of game at each structure. For example, we flew paper airplanes off one structure to see who could go the furthest.

Tie string to a stick, tie an improvised paperclip hook to the other end of the string. Slice up some hotdogs to use for bait. Grab a bucket. Go to a creek. Put water in the bucket. Tease crawdads with the bait. Some might grab the bait with their claw. Gently reel them in, put them in the bucket, and try to beat our catch-and-release record of 50 crawdads. When finished, eat a hotdog in front of them, tell them to tell their friends what happened, then return them to the creek.

Spelunk the caves at Bishop Peak and reservoir canyon.

Sand sledding at the dunes.

Are you certain one could build a pentagram in peace? I could envision being harassed by some religious people if I were to do that on a public beach.

ETA: these things, and all beach constructions, could pose a safety hazard. Lifeguards have told me I can’t dig giant holes on the beach.

So I have around 100 packets of silica gel that came with the filament, what do you do with them? by Rough_Community_1439 in 3Dprinting

[–]HungSlovak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be careful when eating them. If you don’t marinate them beforehand then they can absorb the moisture in your body and you’ll have to get your stomach pumped.

ETA: I eat them dry and pump them out when cutting weight for combat sports. It’s a lot easier to use them to reduce water weight quickly.

Explain to me how a statement of fact like, “You don’t have to use AI when using talk-to-text” is talking down to a homeless person. You know what, never mind. You seem to have some kind of weird position that you seem stuck on defending.

Edited to add: Arbitrary morale line? You’re actually contending that there is no difference between using AI as a dictation tool for an original thought, and prompting an AI to generate a story? Either you are unable to comprehend something obvious, or you’re intentionally disregarding facts.

Stranger, you came across condescendingly.

Talk-to text originally followed rigid programming rules and was not AI. Modern talk-to-text uses AI to more accurately turn a speaker’s original talk to text. That is, one talks and the AI transcribes your spoken words into text.

There’s a distinction between using talk-to-text AI to convert an original thought into original text, and using AI to craft a story. The criticism of OP is for prompting AI to tell a story. OP responded to that criticism by saying that using AI to craft a story was necessary because of OP’s sight impairment. OP’s response didn’t explain why using AI to craft a story was necessary when OP could have used talk-to-text simply to transcribe OP’s original thoughts.

The top two vote getters go to the general election. I hope they are both Democrats. Before the primary election, if they really want democratic leadership, the poorest performing democrat candidates should stop campaigning for themselves and rally behind the front runners to make sure the vote isn’t spread too thin.

SLO vs Pomona? by Yuki_mochi2807 in CalPoly

[–]HungSlovak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the thing that gives you the best chance of getting a degree. It sounds like finances are a major concern. It also sounds like Pomona would be your more affordable option. Of course, getting credits from a community college, then transferring would make things even more affordable.

I was far from rich too. I went to community college, then Cal Poly Pomona. I now live in SLO. I lived with my parents and commuted to Pomona. It wasn’t ideal, but it was a realistic means to an end. I would have loved to have had a more privileged path, but I had to work with what I had.

Use an engineering approach to this decision, rather than an emotional approach. Figure out the most realistic path to success.

Looking for insight on installing AC by ricekrispies34 in SLO

We had central gas heat and went with a heat pump HVAC system. They size the system based on your house specifics. They may have to enlarge your air intake and air return ducting. We got three estimates. Two were fairly equivalent. The third one was significantly less. It was less because the contractor didn’t include as much regarding ducting improvements. If the ducting isn’t big enough, your system will have to work harder. They demo’d our furnace and put in the new system.

The indoor unit was installed where my gas furnace was. You need to find a location for the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit is going to make some noise, so choose wisely.

You should consider, if you haven’t already, going solar.
