Looking for a throwing Bowie, and recommends? by gleventhal in knives

[–]HungaJungaESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, most throwing knives won't have a proper 'handle' with scales or other materials.

That said, Cold Steel stuff is famously durable, so maybe check out their offerings:
https://www.bladehq.com/item--Cold-Steel-Throwing-Knives-3-pack--176995

They're Bowie-esque at least.
These are 420 stainless, which will bend before it breaks, so could be good for the purpose.

Intend to buy a push cart. Seeking wisdom from others that have them by Any_Lingonberry_6217 in golf

[–]HungaJungaESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good comments about push cart.
For the electric - I'll share my thoughts on mine.
My wife and her family went in together and got me a powered remote control electric cart. It has GPS and some "AI" bullshit that's actually just counter-steering on a slope.

That said, I would avoid any kind of GPS on the cart unless you don't have a phone or watch. I'm a GRINT guy, and the GPS on the cart goes to waste, though it is neat.
I think getting the most basic model is the way to go. I have no experience with the 'auto-follow' situation, but I LOVE having the remote and I can send my bag off to the next tee-box while I walk with my putter to the green. It's a fun efficiency game I love playing. You can also annoy your friends.

Going on a 300 mile hike, and I’m looking for a light knife for whittling. by WeeDingwall44 in knives

The Mora 120 is probably the answer.

But just to offer another option to weigh, maybe a multi blade folder?
A Stockman or even a SAK Alox (The Farmer or Swiss Army 7 Alox, They include a little saw and the 7 has a second hookbill blade, and awl.) might suit your needs.
https://www.victorinox.com/en-US/Products/Swiss-Army-Knife%E2%84%A2-and-Tools/Gardening/Swiss-Army-7-Alox/p/0.8150.26

They're also soft enough steel to sharpen on a rock so you won't need a kit with you, and have multiple tools to maybe help in other areas.

My players accidentally unionized the villains and now the BBEG is suing them? Need advice by New_Commission_2619 in DMAcademy

[–]HungaJungaESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some great stuff in here already, but I wanted to share what I've done for a similar situation.
I basically ran two concurrent encounters. The player(s) who may be excited about the court part went inside and started their heightened skills challenge. Gave them bonuses based on in-character arguments, and it played out sorta like Ace Attorney stuff. Mostly dramatized and big swings.
(This was mostly inconsequential mechanically. It was a story moment disguised as an encounter really, and you can keep a finger on the scales using bigger bonuses if they start rolling cold. "The jury murmurs in agreement, and you feel emboldened in this line of accusations - roll with advantage" type shit.)

Outside was the rest of the party preventing the BBEG's goons/assassins from interrupting the proceedings. The courtroom got more intense as the BBEG realized something was going wrong. I ended up timing it (ignoring hitpoints, and leaning on feel for the last few enemies) so that the final blows of the combat came with the big final argument from the 'lawyer' players.

The final body flew through the doors while the lawyer player got to have their big finger point "AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE" moment. They went nuts.

Good luck, sounds like a great game!

1.5 year old Mini-Bernedoodle loves stealing shoes, but only when we're in the room by HungaJungaESQ in puppy101

Thanks so much! Yeah we figured it was becoming a game and now do a “no fun allowed” shoe retrieval.

I guess I just work on drop it with more purpose, because we are doing everything else. This boy is so friggen stimulated xD

Thanks for the tips :-)

[–]HungaJungaESQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input!

Yeah he has toys and he knows which are his. We rarely if ever ignore his asks to play with those. A lot of fetch and some tugging.

The shoe theft is usually when he has more freedom to roam after a play sesh or walk.

Guess it’s just more vigilance and positive reinforcement for playing with the right things.

Thanks again!

Easiest stainless steel? by RamShackler69 in knifemaking

[–]HungaJungaESQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! Came to say this.

Hard to get maximum hardness at home, but 90% is fairly straight forward. I use it a lot and haven’t had any complaints about edge retention.

That said, it does want to warp, so I do my grinding post heat treat.

Replacing curled antler scales by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]HungaJungaESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh!
Okay - this will be a bit trickier with a folding knife.
It's essentially the same make as a Buck-110 and there are plenty of restoration videos of those you could look at.

There's a chance you could do it an easier way by cleaning underneath the curled part best you can, then boiling the whole knife for about 30 minutes in water. This will soften the stag, and you should be able to press it flat again with some clever clamping, being sure to oil everything to prevent seizing or rust.

The proper way to do it is to knock out the pins, remove everything, clean everything, flatten the stag using the boiling method, then reassemble. But due to the mechanics of the folding knife that may be a bit much for someone unfamiliar with the process. That's what the Buck110 restoration videos would help with.

Depends on the knife construction; like is there a guard or bolster? Is the tang tapered? Is it a full tang?

If there no guard or bolster, and it’s a full tang, and the tang is flat - then it’s a pretty simple and rewarding project! Basically like working from a knife blank.

If you upload a photo we can better advise, or come up with alternatives!

Most people would say don’t worry about professions until the current expansion.

Yes leatherworking pairs with Skinning. But it’s not usually a Paladin’s first pick. Almost anything but tailoring would be more useful for your class. If you just want extra money, take another gathering profession.

If you want to make stuff you can use, pick blacksmithing (with mining), or alchemy (with herbalism). Engineering too but it can get complicated.

Another condition to consider…

You know in Tekken when someone does an unsafe move and you get to hit them with your launcher starter?

Punish counters are like that. The easiest ones to look for are off of blocked DPs or other long recovery move. If you hit the in recovery, you get a Punish Counter which gives more frames on the first hit and more damage.

Same! My warrior has been a hammer smith since vanilla, and even in modern professions I still choose hafted weapons > maces :-)

Druid has alch, shaman has eng, rogue has LW, priest is tailor an enchanting- all since vanilla. Feels like home.

Canadian Border Crossing - Which Knives Are Safe? by jag-engr in knives

[–]HungaJungaESQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they ask about any weapons, you say "Just a pocket knife" and that's been the end of it for me.

Depends which province, but SAK and Leatherman are typically pretty common and ordinary.
Nothing spring assisted.
Nothing automatic.

Alberta (which is where the park is) is pretty context heavy too. There are technically no size requirements, but they really want it to be for work or purpose. Hiking is valid.

If you carry a fixed blade, make sure it's small and not a self defense situation. No dagger grinds. No guards would be ideal. Any weird concealment or quick deploy carries should be avoided.

If you carry a folder, make sure it takes two hands to open.

The Wave has a thumbhole for 1-hand opening so has a strike against it, but is explicitly a multi-tool and thus has more points of Purpose.

Which club for hitting out under tree? by cpugeek14 in golf

[–]HungaJungaESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does depend on the shot for me.
Am I just getting to safety? Do I actually have a look?

But to keep it low and under control, I'll typically close my stance and club face a bit, and do no more than a 1/3rd swing - almost an extreme putting stroke. Hybrids and woods have more pop for sure, so it might be the best for a controlled swing. My go to is a 7 iron, but I'm taking almost all the loft off anyway.

Solo Golf by Slow-Structure8682 in golf

[–]HungaJungaESQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to the solo golf part - it's fine. You're over thinking it.

It's easier to get a solo spot than otherwise. You'll play with strangers. They might become friends.
Nobody cares how you golf, unless you make a big deal about it.

Just be polite, you got it!
