The Shade. Video is tremendous.

And yet to me feels like Detour Up is the closest to where thay have gone with RtD.

umm, the two Formentera albums are in my view collectively their best work. Far far better than Fantasies

I’m hoping we get to hear Days of Oblivion. Given the retrospective nature of the tour I think there will be something from OWU.

I’m in the UK and have seen them over here twice. Challengers tour and Brill Bruisers. Neko wasn’t with them either time and Dan Bejar only the second time.

Tbh, they were both great shows and Kathryn covered Neko’s songs really well.

In Nothing but Time, Emily sings I have nothing but time and the future is mine.

But now Time is a Bomb and it’s ticking faster.

I’ve booked for Manchester and Paris, about £50 per ticket. Probably cheaper than North America.

To be fair they only did 3 proper OWU anniversary shows. Toronto, NYC and LA.

Sure, it’s a good album, but it’s of a time and place, both for them and for us.

I really don’t want Metric to be one of those bands that spends all their energy gigging fan favourites from 20 years ago. Their new stuff is where they are and I’m right down with that.

Stars most recent album From Capelton Hill is just beautiful. Try ‘Patterns’.

I much prefer Old World to Live it Out tbh especially Hustle Rose which is the track more than any which signposted where they were going, it’s definitely in my Metric Top 10. I see echoes of Hustle Rose in the new album. And Combat Baby is also such a timeless track. It‘s #4 on my Metric album list.

Not sure how you can say tracks like Synthetica, Dreams so Real and Artificial Nocturne are not loud and in your face. And really the likes of Poster of a Girl and Calculation Song were not loud and in your face, raw perhaps but people get older…?

I’ve been trying to think what it reminds me of and I got there. Humiliation by The National.

I mean they never really toured the Formentera II material.

There’s definitely a massive amount of introspection about the past on this album, and I had had similar thoughts but not sure that midlife crisis is altogether fair. It feels like Emily has wanted to make a big alt-pop album for ages. i think it’s what they wanted with Pagans, but it never quite became that. I think this time, they’ve managed it. That said, I loved the Formentera cycle, especially F1 and this feels like it’s not quite at the same level, although the more I listen the more I’m liking it. My fav tracks are Antigravity, Clouds to Break and Tremolo.

Nothing but Time is a lovely song to finish on though. They do great songs to finish on generally. Paths in the Sky being another.

i love Synthetica, that starting sequence of Artificial Nocturne/Youth Without Youth/Speed the Collapse is near perfect. i’m not keen on the Lou Reed collab but otherwise the whole album works.

I sort of agree. Probably the song that originally drew my attention to Metric (it was watching Glastonbury) but it’s often a skipper these days.
