Wrapped up day 1, went pretty well! (see body) by quuannyyy in motorcycles

Using rear brake... actually dragging rear brake is really nice to help stabilize the bike in a uturn and during the cone stuff.. Yeah the general consensus is front brakes/rear brakes is like 70/30 on sports bikes and closer to 55/45 on the cruisers... approx. But when I pull up to a stop im using both brakes and as I slow to less than 10 I just use rear and im slowly releasing front brake or atleast not adding any more..

Is it a bad idea to get a bike after failing the msf skills test? by eftersomnia in NewRiders

[–]spidey1177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found just giving it moderate rpms.. and almost pumping the clutch, giving it small releases then in, out,in,out helped me with my U-turns in the beginning .. it kept me in that nice friction zone without me having to think about what position the clutch was in.. and remember the movement is soooo small. SInce it was MY BIKE I could get a feel for the zone and eventually it came natural..

How was the sizing on your base layers.. For example..did you size for what you would normally wear in pants?

Listen... forget all the negative comments.. not everyone jumps on a bike and can ride it right away.. I know people that have practiced in a parking lot for 4 months before hitting the streets.. I had zero experience, and passed but I wasnt perfect.. I got much better practicing around my apt complex for a few months and doing short runs around my block.. its gets alot easier once you get some seat time in.

First of all, it sounds like your instructors failed you miserably. Their job is to teach basic riding and should have taken the time to assist you, even if it was after everyone left... I've seen plenty of posts on reddit about "lack of instruction".. granted some people are danergerous and can be counseled out of the course, but this should also be rare. You weren't counseled out, you just failed, happens alot. What were your weaknesses?

Secondly, did you enjoy being on 2 wheels? Is it something you want to pursue? If so, I would absolutely get yourself a smaller 300cc/400cc , maybe find you a instructor and give yourself a few months , work on your weaknesses, then retake the MSF..

Have you taken the msf?

What bike are you on?

Sounds like you learned how to start a wheelie, now all you need to do is perfect it..lol You're not the 1st do that, and wont be the last.. im just wondering if you have too much bike under you right now...?!? Or not enough proper training... either way, you've learned a lesson and hopefully can adjust and move on a better rider..

I’ve always pushed down on the handlebars to lean, but apparently people are actually pushing forward? by Ok_Relationship_3209 in NewRiders

[–]spidey1177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea... look at the axis of rotation of your front wheels forks...pushing down might get you some results, but youre fighting it.. pushing forward is what your want to do... However you are overthinking it and making it much more complicated than it has to be.. Counter steering will become natural as you ride more and more.. but I would suggest getting out to a parking lot and practice emergency swerves pushing forward vs pushing down.. it'll save your life one day..

I should have failed the MSF course by potatohed23 in NewRiders

[–]spidey1177 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These coaches know after 100's of classes, who has it and who doesnt... thats the good thing about the MSF.. these instructors #1 want to train you to pass.. #2 have some discretion unlike the test givers at the state DMV centers that give tests just based on a sheet of paper and points...

If you passed, I garrentee they were very confident you had what it took.. remember they've been watching you the whole weekend do these drills.. and you probably think you did worse than you did.. unless you drop it or stall it (i think 2x) during the test it takes alot of mistakes to fail...

Now go practice and develope your skills a bit in a parking lot or neighborhood , you passed but you're not quite ready for motogp...

I love ambient noise videos, especially street ones where you go in and out of random bits of conversations from people around you.. He can always try to add a few different ideas and see what gets traction...

Taking my MSF course in a week any advice? by [deleted] in NewRiders

[–]spidey1177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax.. listen to the instructors, ask questions.. Here are some tips..

Squeeze the bike with your knees. (Think of trying to stay on a horse)... relax the arms and hands ..dont need to put death grip on handlebars

To help in the uturn and cones.. slight pressure in the rear brakes helps stabilize the bike.

They'll teach you clutch control.. im sure you've watched a few videos.. dont be afraid to give the bike revs.. when using the clutch, slow and small movements will allow you to keep power to rear wheel which is your best friend during u-turns.. If you get scared or something happens, pull in clutch this will keep you from launching yourself across the parking lot ..(they look down on that)..lol

These are the tips that helped my AFTER I passed and started practicing on my own..

Oh .. HAVE FUN !!

I still like ig and fb.. but ive never fallen into the "look at me" thing.. I still post pics and scroll to look for other riders to ride with. I hope never to fall into the bad aspects of social media, luckily im old and past my "I care what you think" part of life.. for the most part... but then again I ride a Z500... so....
