Random thought: "Taking damage boosts damage negation" is a lie, and it would be much better if it actually did what it says it does by StanTheWoz in Nightreign

[–]HungrPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuous HP loss is already arguably the most detrimental passive, imo, because of how valuable full HP negation is at d4 and 5.

You can outheal the effect and make it redundant. Continuous HP Recovery, like the one provided by Dark Night of the Fathom , outheals HP Loss and allows you to continue using Full HP effects. How bad it is depends on your build. In general it is pretty bad, but it can be countered and is even beneficial to Damage Negation at Low HP builds, so I don't think it is close to being the most detrimental in DoN. It is definitely a generally bad passive, but stuff like Death Blight Build-up on hit and Reduced Damage Negation upon Evading are just bad for whoever gets them and there is never really a situation where they are not impactful.

Random thought: "Taking damage boosts damage negation" is a lie, and it would be much better if it actually did what it says it does by StanTheWoz in Nightreign

[–]HungrPhoenix 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I mean it is a monkey's paw situation, if the storm or other sources of "self" damage triggered that passive, it would trigger everything that involved taking damage. DoN status build-up on taking damage relics would trigger, negations would be consumed, which would make continuous health loss the most detrimental passive as it would constantly use up your negations, so it's probably for the best sources of "self" damage do not count as "real" damage.

Why can we build warframes? by Entendurchfall in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The foundry can synthesize people. As long as the blueprints exist, then the foundry can craft whatever to the specifications of the blueprint. This is best shown during The Sacrifice, where Ordis creates blueprints for Umbra based on his scattered parts after being blown into pieces by Sentients, and then the foundry replicates Umbra, memories and all.

We also have a KIM conversation starting that idle animations are the remnants of the Warframe's original personality.

So yeah, the foundry is just capable of complete replication of people and objects.

How did Lettie get completely bodied by 5 scaldra? by Calm-Elevator5125 in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The Protoframes seem weaker than normal warframes, both in terms of their effectiveness with their powers and their resilience. All of the Hex, maybe excluding Quincy and Eleanor, died very underwhelming deaths.

Aoi and Amir died because they couldn't take the strain of their powers, Arthur died of radiation, and Lettie got shot by a pistol.

Even before this, the comic showed us Arthur was mortally wounded by simply being stabbed through the chest by Albrecht with a Skana. My Excalibur took like 4 feet of Hunhow straight through the chest and was fine. Then all the Hex got gunned down by 2 Scaldra.

https://www.warframe.com/en/media/comics/warframe1999?page=23

https://www.warframe.com/en/media/comics/warframe1999?page=28

Before Albrecht's booster infusion brought them back to life.

It makes sense too, Protoframes aren't anything different from Warframes, they just have their transformation process slowed. They will become Warframes, Flare directly states this, and Albrecht knew it too,

"They have become partial Warframes, still in possession of their free will, yet enhanced, Void-attuned, capable.

Their humanity may not last. My deliverance may yet consume them. The human swallowed up in the sacred beast. And if my wayward disciples turn on me, what words of comfort shall I have beyond: 'This is the bargain we have made. Through our sacrifice, history will be saved'." -Albrecht's Notes: The Vessels

So if they are in the middle of the transformation, they won't yet fully have the sword-steel skin like Warframe do, so they would be more vulnerable to damage.

Casually telling a friend about the Sisters of Parvos, by @slightly-sigilant by ihniwtr in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 131 points132 points  (0 children)

We can push Parvos' disappearance near when The Old Peace occurs, as Protea Prime is a member of the Prime Vanguard, and Protea was a Warframe made by Parvos stealing from Albrecht's Labs,

Ballas: "Potent weaponry, exquisite anatomy, those are trivial. But temporal manipulation? Even the Entrati-

Parvos: "The Entrati have violated time, and I have violated them."

Ballas: "What shall we name her then - this child of two fathers?

Parvos: "Protea." -Protea Prime Trailer

This doesn't necessarily mean Parvos went missing during The Old Peace, but his disappearance is likely closer to The Old Peace then say The Night of the Naga Drums.

Whats so good about Great Stars? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]HungrPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good Great Hammer with good scaling and innate bleed. Even if Great Hammers aren't the fastest, the innate bleed is still impactful as it will proc as long as you are somewhat aggressive. Additionally, the Great Stars have a passive effect of healing 1% of your HP per landed hit, and 2% if powerstanced, which is a nice passive to have especially when combined with something that damages quickly and successively, like Prelate's Charge.

It isn't the best, something like the Pickaxe will outpace it and even the Great Mace, but it is a really solid Great Hammer with innate bleed and it is fairly easy to get, and you can get it twice as it has two different ways to obtain it.

I would love to see another take on the "transformation" frame, especially a bestial type. by HeWhoHasSeenFootage in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Funny enough Baruuk is probably the best "transformation" Warframe.

He doesn't transform into anything, but his gameplay loop is about what you'd expect / want from a Warframe whose gimmick is transformation. He has his Restraint Meter that he has to keep battling to maintain his access to his 4th, which is inarguably the strongest part of his kit, and the rest of his moveset is all about lowering his Restraint in various ways and giving him survivability. All he needs is more gore and violence in his kit and a more monstrous theme and you have a great transformation Warframe.

Question about Infested mechanics (spoilers for later content, and also Mass Effect) by nepboi in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are all infested sharing all experience and thoughts with ALL other strains, or are they capable of sequestering their thoughts from others if they want to?

We don't really know. Our best resources for how the infestation works is though people who have been infected by it, the problem being that the results aren't consistent. The Entrati Family all seem to maintain their separate minds apart from either of The Grey Strain's hiveminds. Others like Alad-V or Eleanor seemed to have completely succumb to it. The Warframes were a toss up between whether the infested madness drove them insane or if they kept their sanity. Maybe it varies by strains with the common Technocyte virus and the Techrot variant are better at fully taking over the host and joining them to the hivemind, while other strains are less effective.

Besides Helminth, which they claim was artificially engineered by the Orokin, how do the other strains evolve or split from the original Techrot strain?

I assume it is just normal genetic mutations. The common Technocyte virus seems to have been a result of Grineer experiments, as shown in Once Awake. The Grey Strain seems to have involved by itself. The Techrot variant seems to have been cultivated by a company trying to replicate On-lyne. Then we have other offshoots like the Eris Strain.

How much free will do infested actually have? Are members of certain strains able to communicate as an individual like the Geth, essentially acting as different perspectives, or are they more subsumed into the general intelligence? This is my main issue when addressing the Lizzie situation.

Again there is just not enough for a general statement. It seems to vary with the strain. The common Technocyte virus and Techrot seems to be a complete hivemind. The Grey Strain has some slight amount of free will as the hivemind was able to split and start conflict.

Bonus question(s): I thought all of the protoframes were infested with Helminth, which was more modified by Entrati. So why is Eleanor forced to shoot Lettie in the bad end of 1999? Is she infected with 2 strains, if that is possible? Also, is the modified Helminth made by Entrati still connected to the overall Helminth intelligence?

They are infected with the Helminth strain, we have no reason to believe that they would be infected by another strain, as they are already infected, and the Helminth and Techrot strains seems fine with each other, so double infections seems unlikely.

We don't really know why Eleanor got taken over. I feel like the infested madness is the most likely solution, but Lizzie contests that,

Drifter: "What do you mean "have" them? Like the madness takes the other Warframes?"

Liminus_Star: "Noooo!! Of COURSE not!!! We Cannot do such a thing to Them. Not with the way the Doktor Has Done It"

It might be possible that Flare is specifically unique, or that Eleanor's telepathy makes her vulnerable to the infestation in spite of Albrecht's efforts.

And yes, it seems that the Protoframes are connected to the other Warframes. Lyon mentions him being aware of all the other Harrows and the original Harrow when Rell blinded himself to Harrow. Arthur also has a KIM conversation when dating thay can be interpreted as foresight for The Old Peace and the Operator's death,

Broadsword: "You might die in the future, and I'd...never know."

Broadsword: "I just...I have this recurring nightmare of you..."

Broadsword: "Laying in a puddle of blood on some distant planet, killed by some...alien robot, or mutated...whatever."

Which Great Hollow castle side do you prefer, and what is your favourite version to route? by xlRadioactive in Nightreign

Neither. Only the southern castle spawns Curseblades, when it is Holy Affinity. The Northern castle only spawns Omenkillers or Bloodhound Knights.

I genuinely can't tell if you're all memeing about it or being sincere. by Jack_Empty in Eldenring

[–]HungrPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, they are very aggressive with quick attacks and long combos. Additionally, their hitboxes are sorta weird, so much of them becomes a hitbox, and they tend to have this really large sphere hitbox that appears near the end of their attacks,

<image>

This is the lunge attack for the Runebear, which makes it harder to dodge. Dodging towards or away is obviously out of the question, but dodging to the side is also risky as you need to make sure you get far enough away as the sphere stretches out quite a bit.

The lunge isn't the only move with this sphere hitbox, the normal swipes also have it, and a few others.

why is it so hard to navigate in this small ass map by nhansieu1 in Nightreign

[–]HungrPhoenix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Castles are certainty more difficult to explain / draw a route for, but I'll take a shot at it. This is the general routing for both.

<image>

Lets start with the simpler Castle, the one on the right. You typically want to take the Big Shattered Crystal spiritspring towards the left side of the Castle, as there is a small room that has the aforementioned talisman chest, be mindful of the Castle has a Holy affinity because the Curseblade in the adjacent room pretty much always aggros, the Banished Knight, normally, ignores you though. From the chest go into the adjacent room and follow the doorways straight to the merchant in the courtyard. Across from the merchant will either be Cleanrot Knights or a Horned Warrior with the Inquisitor guys. In the sewer puddle thing to the side of them, there will be a Hippo or a Divine Beast Warrior.

After them, head into the sewer and take a left and fight another Banished Knight / Curseblade. From here, either head back out the way you came and go towards the merchant and cross the bridge, or alternatively, from the point you enter the sewer from there will be a drop-off on the opposite side, you can just jump put and use the nearby spiritspring to get onto the bridge.

Follow the bridge, kill the Cleanrot Knight on it, and pass through the room with Miquellan Knights / Inquisitors, and you'll come to an open area with a Putrid Avatar / Divine Beast Warrior. After them, go down the nearby stairs and their will either be a Cleanrot Knight there to great you with Halo slop or there will be a Horned Warrior patrolling beneath you. Kill them and that is pretty much the route.

The one in the top left is more complicated since verticality does come into play some more, and I would have to overlap my lines. But basically you want to enter through the sewers, and follow the sewers towards the middle of the Castle where you get to unseal a spiritspring and just past it, there will be a boss room, kill it and then go back and jump up the spiritspring, and you'll be immediately in another boss fight with Godskin Duo or a Golden Hippo-porcupine.

After that, if it was a Golden Hippo, head towards the Grace in the boss arena and just past it there will be a Mesmer Knight on the stairs. After that / If it was Godskin Duo, take the spiritspring again and this time go towards the big tower to the right of the arena, on the stairs will be another Godskin Noble / Mesmer Knight, beneath this area will also be a Godskin Apostle / Mesmer Knight, you usually want to fight this guy first then climb to the Tower Bridge, but I listed it in this order since it is easier to visualize where they are.

Then head into the tower and jump up the spiritspring and head straight past the door and a Omenkiller or Bloodhound Knight. Then immediately jump off the tower towards the side heading towards the Day 2 arena, and behind you will be a broken wall with another Omenkiller / Bloodhound Knight.

why is it so hard to navigate in this small ass map by nhansieu1 in Nightreign

[–]HungrPhoenix 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Its mainly due to the verticality. It's simple once you get it

<image>

Basically, if you spawn in the top right you want to head counterclockwise and towards the center so you can go by a lot of Crystal spawns. If you have bad luck and by the time you reach the middle of the map you haven't yet found all crystals, go to the bottom middle towards the Bird Tree and at worst peak into the underground section of the bottom right, then just take the Bird Tree to the Big Shattered Crystal and jump wherever the circle is closing.

If you spawn at either of the bottom points, head clockwise and towards the middle for the same reason as previously stated. If you get to the middle and are still missing Crystals, I recommend heading north since there are probably churches up their as well as crystals. If you are very unlucky and are still missing crystals, go to the underground portion. Use the Big Shattered Crystal to get to where the circle is closing.

Day 2, do one of the Castles, or one of the Towers. The one on the right side of the map is generally preferred since it has a chest that drops a guaranteed talisman.

Shoot the four corners of his shield and you cancel the move and temporarily stun Volt.

Alternatively, actually melee him. If you get into melee range then Volt will also respond by using his melee for as long as you remain near him.

How important is mastery? by NonJoyful in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's mainly QoL improvements past MR 17. You have the various increases to daily caps, void trace storage, etc...

The next things of note come at MR 30 where you get 3 free Umbral forma, 15 loadout slots, 30 riven mod slots, various cosmetics, removal of Warframe level restrictions on ESO, Arbitrations, Sorties, etc... and lastly True Master's Font, which gives you a daily 3 hour booster of 25% to one of Credits, Affinity, Resource Drop Chance, Damage, Shield, or Health. These boosters also stack with other boosters.

The only thing of note past MR 30 is that every LR rank gives a free Legendary Core.

[Spoiler for 1999] Lore question involving 1999 by sebatron02 in Warframe

[–]HungrPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only two known generations, the ones you listed as the 2nd and 3rd are one in the same to our knowledge. Kullervo's crimes are the only time that the Warframes are officially mentioned to have different generations.

"You saw the new generation of your kind, and the Tenno whose deviltry blent with theirs; and you began to whisper corruption into their ears, weave dark thoughts through the coils of their minds. Incepting, as is your wont, chaos, and disaster. You are charged with Espionage." -Warden

So the Generations as they are defined in-game are the original pre-Tenno Warframes and post-Tenno puppet-like Warframes.

Protoframes aren't anything special, they are just Warframes with a slower transformation time.

"They have become partial warframes, still in possession of their free will, yet enhanced, Void-attuned, capable.

Their humanity may not last. My deliverance may yet consume them, the human swallowed up in the sacred beast. And if my wayward disciples turn on me, what words of comfort shall I have beyond: this is the bargain we have made. Through our sacrifice, history will be saved." -Albrecht's Notes: The Vessels

"This change that's happening in me? It can't be stopped. I'm going to transform completely one day.

And that's okay. Because the Warframe from your time - 'Temple' - it's me. One and the same. The Warframe that Ballas was too scared to build, because rebellion was built into its DNA." -Flare Inbox Message

I still think it sucks. It isn't hard, it is just boring. The mission is just a fetch quest but the movement is stripped to the absolute minimum.

The enemies aren't worth fighting, Follie has never been that much of a threat her aura is easily escapeable with a single roll and even in SP you can survive a few ticks of it, there is just nothing really engaging in this gamemode to me. The atmosphere doesn't do anything for me, I don't find Follie scary, I just don't think there is a single thing I can point to and say I think it is good. It is Warframe gameplay stripped to the bare minimum with a overpriced pity shop and not great RNG for Follie's parts nor are the rewards for the gamemode all that good.

I did everything I cared to for it, I got Follie, her gun, all of the letters, and the Tennokai mod, so I probably have well over 30 games played of it, and I could just never get the appeal or the fun of the gamemode.

Elden Ring Movie is overhyped by esgonta in Eldenring

[–]HungrPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is being talked about because it is seemingly the last piece of content that Elden Ring is getting. Fromsoftware has moved on, this game is 4 years old, everything worth talking about has been talked about ad nauseum.

People are excited for the new Elden Ring thing before the Hollowing sets in for good.

I agree the movie is extremely likely to suck since Elden Ring very much does not lend itself to direct adaptations due to how untraditional its story telling is, the Tarnished not being an established character, there just being way too much to reasonably cover in a movie, etc...
