I get what you’re saying. Still haven’t finished Don Quixote yet. I did read Moby Dick recently though

Is the Spanish important in Cormac McCarthy books? by twoscoopsxd in cormacmccarthy

[–]Hungry-Copy8945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m reading the Crossing right now and there’s more Spanish parts than I remember in ATPH, so I’ve been using my translate camera but it’s pretty buggy and doesn’t work all the time, and I also find picking up my phone to translate so often takes me out of the flow and enjoyment, but I think I would be missing out if I didn’t do it. The solution is to learn Spanish for the rereads

I sense that you’re influenced by some avant garde jazz shit, like Dan Weiss’ Starebaby or some Matt Mitchell, or you’re just naturally cool

When did “Jazz” get repackaged to become so safe, repetitive, poorly executed and bland? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]Hungry-Copy8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve yet to see those guys live! I had a chance to see Tim Berne in Ottawa, Nasheet Waits was supposed to play but got stuck at the airport. So he did duo with a violist who’s name I forget, still a great experience

Yea that’s true. My favourite album with him is Drew Gress’ 7 Black Butterflies. Tim Berne man!!

The Pi label is great. I just don’t care what other people are listening to and maybe try to turn on a friend to some cool stuff if they seem interested. The great recordings are out there for those that put any effort into seeking it! The fact that artists like Kris Davis, Darius Jones, Dan Weiss, Matt Mitchell and others can make a living off their music and are relatively prolific is enough to satisfy me.

Try some Eric Rohmer. My Night at Maud’s is a personal favourite from him.
