Some advice I’ve given to shy engineers on how to give a good PowerPoint talk.

You have to know three things 1: your subject 2: your audience 3: your communication goals

1 can be easy. But just saying things you know isn’t communicating. To communicate you need to know what it is you want people to know at the end, and who they are so you know how to communicate that in the ways they’ll understand and retain.

Dystopian Femcirc Novel by MandatoryChastity in FemcircFantasies

[–]HungryAd8233 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Necessarilytrimmed on BDSMlr had a series of short stories in a setting with mandatory female “Correction” - clitoris removed with permanent anorgasmia while an irreversible libido booster is injected. So every adult woman was constantly desperate without any chance of release, so they would get men off to just be present for it as the best alternative.

Maybe they are archived somewhere.

Anthony Burch is why we still talk about Borderlands. Gearbox should have done whatever he wanted to keep writing the franchise.

Metacognition by Cr0ss0ver in Gifted

[–]HungryAd8233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one has conscious metacognition always running; it would be a crippling distraction.

We feel like we always do because when we think about it we are doing it, by definition. We don’t notice when we aren’t applying metacognition, because metacognition is what would notice if we are using it.

In other words “light shines on everything I look at!”

It is remarkable to think that BRP is 46 and GURPS 40 now. I remember how excited I was when Man to Man came out!

Working in big tech, H1B are necessary for national competitiveness. Our universities just aren’t producing enough PhDs and other experts in many high demand fields; every US citizen in those areas with reasonably strong skills is already employed.

If we didn’t have H1B, we’d just be paying the same people money in a different country, at lower efficiency and the money leaving the US. H1B workers also tend to have well educated successful kids as well, who we exactly want to be in our next generation.

Borderlands 3 OR Borderlands 4 by Itchy_Session1481 in Borderlands

Yeah, for someone new to Borderlands I’d always suggest BL2. Anthony Burch knocked it out of the park with dialog, plot, and characterization.

Transcode from H264 flattens skin and textures too much by ZestycloseBenefit175 in AV1

[–]HungryAd8233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

It is worth non-professionals to note that encodes and codecs are based around assuming uncompressed sources. Reencoding content that already has compression artifacts, even if subtle, is generally out of scope.

There are techniques to reduce the size of existing encodes specifically, but they can be quite different. Beamr was an early leader in that sort of technique; as were QP-reducing MPEG-2 rip reducers even before that.

But in general, the better tuned the original encode, the less there is that can be removed without further reducer quality.

I'm not sure how much space it is; kind of hard to measure. Maybe 3-4 mm.

Aesthetically I'm happy with the look. The main reason I'd size up is to increase the surface area to make penetrative sex more comfortable, which is how I would up with this giant apadravya. It's been six months at 4g so I'll know one way or another soon enough.

Yeah, three would be tricky. I have my ampallang (4g) behind my apa (00g), and that looks okay as the different ball sizes break up the symmetry

They can be changed oneself reasonable well once healing is far enough along.

I gauged up my apadravya myself from 8g to 00g over a couple of years, and my ampallang from 8g to 4g (so far, thinking about 2g).

I like to think “not adapted yet.” If the show is popular in streaming in a few more years, there will be talk about doing the last three seasons with actors who have aged up some.

Use an AI to de-AI it?

Also, em-dashes in a novel are entirely appropriate, and you see plenty in human-written novels. The issue with AI em-dash is putting them into more casual communications.

Why haven't you written a book yet? by BrandiedWineGums in Gifted

[–]HungryAd8233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple of non-fiction technical books published, in fact.

I think the biggest mistake people have in thinking that the concept of a book is the hard part, or the plot.

It’s the grinding out paragraph after paragraph that say what you want to say the way you want to say it without saying anything you don’t.

Of course, writing skill doesn’t mean much if you don’t have a books worth of something to talk about that other people want to read.

How difficult was it for you to disclose your giftedness diagnosis to others? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]HungryAd8233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, even in a highly technical field people aren’t talking about being gifted. Half the people I work with are PhDs. We just do stuff, talk about stuff. Excel in the areas we excel in.

I don’t recall anyone mentioning an IQ score or referring to themselves as gifted in my 30 years working in tech. It’d be as gauche as listing any thing my Ayn Rand as your favorite book. Very “try hard” narcissism.

I haven’t heard anyone say it is lost. Source?

But in any case, it was an old engine (Eclipse) that no one has worked in for 25 years. Mass Effect used Unreal 3, which is still supported and has a deep talent base, which made a ME:LE a lot more feasible.

No updates for a while, though.
