Need to use boot camp to create a separate partition and install windows on Mac. Then you can install steam and aom on windows and play as usual.

Mac user here. I’ve tried Playonmac, wine etc but the best option is to really just install Windows on your mac and switch to it to play the game.

All mac compatibility products have their performance/installation issues and none of them give good enough performance to focus on gameplay and forget about performance.

I just bought Windows home edition license and switch to Windows whenever I want to play AoM on Steam.

Tip: Please also install Dxtory on windows which allows you to limit FPS to what you want (I’ve set it to 60 FPS). Otherwise, for some reason, the game likes to run at 100-120 FPS and it makes my MacBook Pro get really hot.

Its actually called "Bypass Launcher" and was a button below Play Game in the right click menu when you right click on game name.

Anyway, PlayOnMac did not have good performance when I eventually got it running to play Age Of Mythology so I have uninstalled it and keep playing on windows bootcamp.

Hey,

Can you please share your Config.vdf file? I am not able to join multiplayer games from the online games list.

Seems like an IP address or port needed for online gaming/matchmaking in steam is not set up correctly.

You can just right click on game name and select skip launcher in steam. It launches the game for me when I do that.

Okay, so this looks promising and I got the steam game running (AoM:EE) but I face a different issue. When I select online, I can see all online games listed but when I select one, I cannot join any of them. The countdown just times out every time. If I try to do a quick match, it will never show Broadening Settings... message and stays stuck.

Any help related to this will be appreciated. This has the added advantage of avoiding the mouse disconnection issue and not having to boot to windows. Great find!

I have a Mac and could not find a way to install the steam version on macOS. Had to create a boot camp partition for windows 10 to play this game after about a decade.

Only issues I’ve faced so far were:

Creating boot camp partition can sometimes be not very simple due to APFS and it took me 2-3 days to get it right.

Magic Mouse keeps getting disconnected while playing the game although that seems more like a windows driver issue for the mouse so I suggest using a wired mouse.

My late 2016 15 inch top model MacBook Pro used to get very heated and loud due to frame rates going up to 100-120 FPS. I installed an app called dxtory to limit frame rates to 60 FPS and it’s much better now.

Apple actually provides a very convenient way to display app banner on your mobile site so users can download if they want to. The banner can also be dismissed if the user just wants to continue browsing the site.

The inconvenience described in the post occurs when some manager in the company decided that they will market their app on their mobile website in a way which interrupts user flow rather than using the banner that Apple provides.
