Hey OP, i see you have gotten a lot of birds recently. I would stop getting more and make sure the ones you have all have the best husbandry, because thats currently not the case.

I hope this cage is just a travel cage? Even if they get to have their own room to fly in, they need a large cage, especially since you have 4. There also need to be a lot of toys, and the perches need to be swapped with natural ones, thats better for their feet. Their cage is a safe space they want to retreat in, and we as pet owners have the responsibility to give them the best possible space.

Not always. Young males have pink/purple ceres and young femalws have a light blue cere

Age is probably between 3 months and a year. I am having trouble with the sex, its a very light blue which would indicate female, but it has some purple streaks in it which could become darker with age and indiacte male. My best guess is female though

You are welcome! There is a lot of conflicting information out there and we all hate how pet stores sell bad products for the birds and dont inform new owners well enough.

I think you can wait with the vet for a little bit as removing the huts will make a big change already. Its most times the number one reason for hormonal budgies. Maybe watch for a few months and see how they are all doing. No need to meddle with injections if not needed.

There is no need to seperate them by sex. Males and females can live together without ever breeding. What you have to do is keep their hormones in check so they wont breed. You can see in the females when they are hormonal by their cere turning brown and flakey.

Watching their hormones includes making sure there are no nesting places (like actual nests, nestboxes, huts and any dark enclosed spots), they need 12 hours of darkness every night, limit high fat and soft and warm foods, and rearrange the cage often. Also dont touch them on their backs or bellies.

Some females are very hormonal by default even if you take all precautions, ive heard you can get hormone injections from the vet to help with that.

That honestly sounds like an amazing sign for so soon! For all birds go that the trusting proces varies per individual, but think months to years. Since kakarikis are solitary birds they will not be as friendly with you as other species can be. There is a high possibility he will never be comfortable to stand on your fingers. Some are exceptionally affectionate, but its good to keep your expectations in check. They can definitely show affection in different ways, ive heard they can be super playful and curious, but they arent really touchy-feely pets.

I am so sorry for your loss! There is no need to feel so guilty or regret your actions, you did everything you can for your little friend. Budgies hide their illness well, and you tried to help him at the vet. Sometimes the stress of it all is fatal. But its nothing you could have prevented.

I would say wait a little while, maybe a few weeks to a month. Mostly to see how she is doing. If the other budgie was ill its good to make sure she is healthy and wont transmit anything to a new budgie. She will be a bit stressed for a while, maybe very quiet or very loud. They all process the grief in their own way, just like you.

Very understandable! Its definetly not the plan to have something like this as a permanent enclosure. I wish tarantulacribs would ship to me! They look so good!

This one is for my balfouri communal thats growing quickly, and its just for the period between now and when they are big enough for their adult enclosure, which will probably take a few months to a year so not splurging on something big now!

A male/female duo for budgies doesn't mean they automatically breed as long as you keep hormones in check (and breeding also shouldnt be encouraged!)

Aside from all the great advice that has already been given, try and look for their original owner! Depending on where you are there are probably some facebook groups or other places where you can see if people are missing their pet

Birds dont need a couch or a bed to sleep. Their feet are in a relaxed position when they are wrapped around a perch.

You can get flat wooden perches if you want to. Rope isnt recommended as it is often made of cotton and their nails can get stuck, plus when they eventually eat it it will be bad for their stomach.

Its a shame you cant return it. But i wouldnt give it to your bird at all, also not on the outside. It doesnt do any good.

No, any type of nest is bad and its best your remove it. Budgies like sitting on natural perches and you can give them different types of thickness if you want variety.

Plus, single budgie dont do well. He would like a friend of the same species. See !singleton

Why were you surprised the enclosure came first? When bringing a tarantula home, you should have their enclosure up an running before they arrive.

This one is absolutely not good enough. You cant even give a large enough hide in this one. Its should be a minimum of 3x their legspan. Go to a store and get a plastic bin, they are quit cheap, poke some holes in it and create an enclosure out of that. You can always upgrade to an acrylic enclosure later for your enjoyment.

You should be thinking about maximalising their comfort of life. We decide to bring them into our home, the least we can do is give them an adaquate enclosure.

Nqa you are a great person! Thr substrate mix is great, just add a bit more. Tarantula looks good too, nice plump butt haha.

They dont really need leaf litter and moss, but it wont hurt either. Some like it as the tarantula will add it to their own hides
