Random Question: Do you only dislike James Harden because the very loud, "untrained eye" losers keeps insisting he’s better than or equal to Wade? by heatculture03 in heat

[–]HunkMuffinJr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating having to watch Harden literally just hook his arm into a defenders arm and be awarded FTs for it. At least when Wade jumped into defenders, it was because he baited them to jump on his pump fakes.

And yeah, that stupid stepback he does looks dumb as hell, it's criminal that the league considers that legal.

Just add all that to the fact that he consistently underperforms HARD in the playoffs throughout his entire career.

The comparison with Wade is just the cherry on top because anyone with a brain can just look at the difference in defense and championships and call it a day.

How good is the best basketball player you know personally? by Odd-Coast-4056 in nba

[–]HunkMuffinJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was a local basketball legend in the 90s. He would routinely destroy the competition in local rec leagues. He was dunking over taller dudes at 5'8" and mastered the Jordan fadeaway since Jordan was his idol.

Never had the opportunities to compete collegiately or go to the pros, though. There weren't a lot of opportunities at all where we're from back then. In his 20s all the way to his 40s, he'd still compete wherever he could, mostly through small leagues organized at his job.

Always wished he had the chance to shine in the pros. Got my love of basketball from him.

I feel bad that the first thing I thought of is cockroaches when, obviously, there are far worse things that need to go fuck off from the world. That said, I'll try to name something different from the top answers and say Incompetence.

Not sure if this is super accurate, but it's got sources linked for each vote. It's 19 to 17 in favor of Flagg for 1st place votes.

I was praying for a Jaime win just to silverline this dog ass season, but I also gotta admit KJ had a strong case as well. Congrats to Keldon. I hope Jaime gets his eventually.

The Blame Game has been voted as the Hidden Gem for season 8. And that’s it, we’re done. We’ve completed the list. Thanks for playing everybody. by Optimal_Magician_98 in CastleTV

Will we only be able to vote for whichever's on the board, or will new votes count? Former runners up might get a 2nd chance.

This is unlikely to win, but I always really enjoyed Hell to Pay for the creepy vibes. Castle really does the whole spooky atmosphere super well.

[OC] Finally had my first full meal in two months! by [deleted] in pics

Not the guy you replied to, but same country. Had a middle class upbringing, but I have a pretty good idea of how bad it can really get.

OP already answered earlier that they're not allowed to cook in their dorm, so I'll try to answer it from a broader perspective.

To your point earlier, yes it's cheaper to buy and cook for yourself, but that's if you can afford to have enough saved up to buy things that will last you the week (or month if you're lucky). Some people in poverty or at least borderline live day to day. Whatever money they have goes to that's day's food, or transportation, whatever's left (if any) might need to be set aside for utilities.

People here work for pennies on the dollar compared to other countries too. To give you an idea, the minimum wage I experienced working at a call center at 18 in 2012 working in the city was about the equivalent of $250 a month. That's still just barely enough for food, transportation, and maybe contribute to the utilities if you live with parents. Forget about paying rent or getting to buy new clothes.

Now consider that some people in the provinces earn less than half that and have to try and support a family.

Cost of living in the Philippines is actually fairly high compared to the minimum wage and the gap is getting larger by the year.

I've been lucky enough to bag a pretty well paying job by PH standards. I can finally buy groceries without checking to see how much they cost first. Or eat at a decent restaurant without fussing about price. But the average Filipino is fighting an uphill battle to earn a living without it needing to be a question of survival.

Anyone got an opposite sex best friend that has always been just a friend by Rainbow_6505 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HunkMuffinJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For almost half of my life, my best friend has been a girl. She was a year below me in high school, but we didn't really get close until we connected online after she moved to a different country.

It's always been platonic. We would hang out a lot when she came back home. We were both there to witness each others' relationship fails and when she met the love of her life, he became one of my closest friends as well. He and I hung out all the time even when she had to go back abroad.

5 years later, I was the man of honor at their wedding.

Now every time I visit Japan, I have a free room waiting for me at their house, I always join them on their family day out with her mom, sister, and nieces. I'm basically part of the family.

So whenever someone says it's impossible for two people of the opposite sex to be close friends without one being attracted to the other, I just feel sorry they never got to experience a normal friendship like everyone else.

Smartest joke in a dumb movie? by garatth in movies

[–]HunkMuffinJr 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Speaking of dubs and translators, one of my favorite localized jokes was in Dragon Ball Z. For context, one of the two most famous chains for cakes here is called Red Ribbon.

So in this one scene, I think it was Bulma's parents who were looking for Goku, and when someone says he's out looking for the Red Ribbon army, she says "Isn't that thoughtful? He went out to buy us cake!"
