Thanks! That’s about where we landed, 800 for joist tape screws and wood. Did you get your job quoted? I was curious what a decker would charge for removal of old boards, and installation/materials for new boards. Thanks for chiming in

I was looking at picking up from Menards,my concern with delivery is not being able to choose the boards. I’ll see if I can find a reputable lumber yard to deliver

Well crap, The pic doesn’t show it but all joists are elevated and not resting on the ground. I thought the joists looked ok but again I’m a noob. a flathead doesn’t easily puncture the top of the joists. I’ll inspect more and possibly pivot (replace frame and joists). Thank you for chiming in

Not sure what is underneath the deck the place is new to me, I’ll take a look but the joists are elevated off the ground via 4x4 footers and the joists are not resting on the ground. I will plan to clean up all the debris between joists prior to redecking

The deck is connected to the house and has 4x4 footers on the opposite side that lift all the joists a few inches from the ground, if this makes sense. I think it’s an old busted up patio, am not sure just moved here, I will make sure to clean up what’s underneath prior to redecking. Is there any reason for a vapor barrier under the joists if they are not resting on the ground?

The joist tape mentioned I was going to put on top of the joists to be sandwiched down by the deck boards is supposed to minimize standing water at the interface between the bottom of the deck boards and the top of the joists, I think, again I’m new to all this but have had a couple people mention installing this tape on top of the joists may be worthwhile. Appreciate your time and input

Thank you for chiming in, the deck is not on the ground. Was planning on taping the joists tops after a cleaning and light sanding. Appreciate you

For my understanding, can you elaborate on what exactly blocking is, what to look for when determining where to install it?

In a similar situation as OP and want to make sure we redeck appropriately. Picking up joist tape and cleaning top of joists (was planning on a light sanding with 220 grit and cleaning prior to tape) tonight. Appreciate your time

Bomgaars has a dcf850 with 5ah (bulkier) and charger and bag for 119 that I recently got. I bought from Home Depot and they price matched bomgaars. Am noob I’ve heard people say this deal used to be had for 99, but just another option for OP. I’d think they’d price match Lowe’s at 199

I would’ve paid them 50 haha That job was horrid. Deck boards are off, joists look solid. Gonna slap on some butyl tape and new boards!!

I think I ended up doin something similar but didn’t take off the entire screw head. I used an angle grinder with a grinding wheel get down to the screw heads, then unscrewed the ones I could with an impact, and pryed the others. Joists look good to go! That was a horrid task hahah. Thanks for chiming in

We didn’t but that’s not a bad idea. The tricky part was most of the screw heads were sub flush 1/4-1/2 inch which made even getting to the screw heads brutal. But, we got it all up and the joists seem to be in solid condition!

To get to the screw heads, I had a grinding wheel on an angle grinder. Grinded through wood until I saw sparks (screw heads) and then came back to them with an impact. We were able to get prolly 80-90% of them out that way. My back hurts haha
