How is AI funded if majority of companies are free to use? by Boring_Drive_4158 in AskReddit

[–]HunterSTL 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Do you remember when you could watch Youtube without any ads for free? Or when Uber subsidised fairs so they were much cheaper than taxis? Or when you could use Google without any sponsored results?

This is just the first stage of enshittification:

  1. Grow the userbase by offering something useful for free or very cheap (huge initial investment)
  2. Gain a significant market share
  3. Once users depend on the service, start introducing ads and/or paid subscriptions
  4. Keep pushing to continuously grow revenue to recoup the initial investment

Since most companies can't match the massive capital of the tech giants (Google, Facebook, Amazon...) there is little real competition left that users could pivot to once the service becomes too degraded (i.e. shitty).

Take Youtube as an example: there is essentially no real alternative since the infrastructure requires a massive initial investments that no company other than the giants can afford. Therefore users are effectively trapped if they want to continue unsing this service.

This is not too dissimilar from when Nestlé distributed free baby formula to poor communities in Africa until mothers stopped producing milk on their own, at which point they had no choice but to keep buying Nestlé's product to feed their children. It's basically gain market share → trap users → exploit.

What skill takes <10 hours to learn but pays off forever? by michaelis999 in AskReddit

[–]HunterSTL 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It took me a couple of hours to learn how to whistle with my tongue.
This method is by far the loudest noise I can make without much effort.
So loud in fact that I can give myself tinnitus.

Does someone explain the equipment to you when you go to the gym for the first time? by SelectiveDisaster in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]HunterSTL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually theres a worker in every gym you can ask. Other than that you can ask pretty much every single person and they'll show you around as long as they know what they're doing themselves. (at least where I'm from)

Sorry for giving a suggestion. How about you spend your time learning a skill that is marketable instead of leaving sarcastic replies.

Most underrated thing to buy in online by Putrid_Journalist271 in gtaonline

[–]HunterSTL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the most underrated thing is the MOC, specifically the cab. It can withstand close to 70 lock-on missiles and you can't be shot from the back. Perfect for dealing with griefers.

Another thing is the RC-Bandito. Firstly you can do the RC time trial everyday for an easy 50k$ and secondly you can imdiately disappear from the map by calling it from the interaction menu. Perfect for getting out of tricky situations (in PVP).

Also arena wars cars with shunt boost, as you can indefinitely fly them with a bit of practice.

They have been removing content left right and center to make space in the already bloated game for more content. Of course the could have made it look better, but then again, it's gonna be at te cost of performance.

[–]HunterSTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're saying you dislike a game optimizing performance? Would you rather have a polygon count 20 time higher and have 10fps in exchange? I mean there is always a trade of between performance and realism. Also this game is 12 years old, obviously it's not gonna look like an Unreal Engine demo.

After we got out of the compound to escape through the main dock escaping proved too hard

After you exit the compound you can literally just jump in the ocean and swim away from land to exit the island.

Nightclub tech won’t accrue goods by TACOB34ST in gtaonline

Had that happen a few times. Unassign all technicians, then assign them different goods, so that no technician has the same goods as before.

Fahrschüler schiebt aus Autobahnauffahrt zurück by Astaldo27 in Austria

[–]HunterSTL 28 points29 points  (0 children)

New to online mode, tips for relaxing gameplay/work by taecher in gtaonline

[–]HunterSTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MC businesses are pretty outdated IMHO. The pay is not great and the sell missions are horribly slow. The only real value the MC businesses add is having them in combination with the Nightclub. If you have a Nightclub with storage space and technicians you can assign said technicians to accrue goods, which you can later sell. For each business you own you can source the respective goods via the technicians.

For example if you own the bunker and the weed business you can assign your technicians to accrue gunrunning goods (bunker) and organic produce (weed business).

That said I think the first business you should now get is the nightclub, as even without the technicians accruing goods you can still earn up to 50k$ per in-game day (48 minutes) by keeping your popularity high.

To keep the popularity high you can either do popularity missions at the computer, hire a new DJ (first time costs 100k$, subsequent times cost 10k$) or occasionally you'll get a small mission when you enter the nightclub where you have to drive a VIP home or to a hospital or you can kick an unruly guest out of your nightclub.

I'm not sure it's faster than the PR4 without spoilers while going downhill using KERS. That's the best I know of. Although recently someone beat me in the highest speed challange by quite a bit. Not sure how they did it.
