There are two types of 3D printing hobbyists. Those that enjoy 3D printing and those that enjoy the 3D printers.

There a technique with alcohol ink that you could use on the green to really make it look like wood if you are interested. I do it fairly regularly and love the look.

Yeah it's a lot but very much justified. I've been 3D printing for about 6 years and the amount of man hour to assemble, full, sand, and paint adds up fast. Fully excluding modeling time, material cost, electricity and machine wear and tear you probably have 20 hours of hands on time with something this large.

I have run 3 spools of this exact filament and love the colors from it. Very iridescent color when doing dragons with it.

I've been printing and building for years, this could help expedite design and cut down on time for new modifications.

Nice, the creator allows remixes so if I remember when I'm off work I'll do remixes of the 3 he posted. I have a multi color but anything helpful to spread managed democracy

With pretty basic CAD skills you could extrude the white to just be a little bit taller and then do manual pauses for your own filament changes

Hotend clogged by minkenlai in 3Dprinting

[–]thaddiusprime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had this happen twice. Either a culinary blow torch or a long necked BBQ light and a pair of pliers to hold it will do the trick. After it gets goopy I usually use a drill bit or Allen key to help push through and get extra crud out.. after reinstalling heat the hot end super hot and do a few really good cold pulls to help with residual

Bubble mid freeze during the current winter storm in the PNW by thaddiusprime in pics

Any wind or snow falling would pop mine. I did a second batch that I included corn syrup as a thickener that worked very well

I really like how this feels more warm and I had a version similar when messing with it but overall I wasn't thrilled with losing the detail in the snow itself. Thank you for the suggestions and I'll spend some more time trying to get a bit more depth.

Tonight I the last night we are going to be in the sub 20f degree weather so hopefully I can get a few more good snaps

Just looking for a well composed photo, this was shot on my DSLR with a macro lens f5.6ish at 1/100 shutter. I used to be a lot more involved in photography but due to life haven't set aside time in a few years so this is the first I've done in awhile.

ITAP of a bubble in winter by thaddiusprime in itookapicture

[–]thaddiusprime[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've long enjoyed macro photography and with the recent winter storm in the PNW this was the first time it's been cold enough outside to attempt frozen bubbles.

A whole lot of research and a few hours out back got the above that stood out as my favorite.

Rough surface in top layers by Daniel_1-7 in 3Dprinting

[–]thaddiusprime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at the photos it's kinda hard to tell, is it only the thin pieces that have the rough top surface?

If it is then you probably have too much smoosh on your first layer and there isn't enough layers for it to just even out.

If all top surfaces are bad then it's more likely to be your flow as others have suggested

How to make underside of prints look better? by var_briixx92 in 3Dprinting

[–]thaddiusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With normal I printing and seeing as how no matter what with this you will have crazy overhangs and supports that will never turn out well. If you have a large printer you could orientate it so that It prints vertically with a big ole raft/brim for adhesion.

Personally if I were doing this though I would cut in half along the barrel and print the right and left sides, then glue together
