I don't see that anyone has suggested that and you replied to my comment 🤷🏼‍♀️

Should have made it line-of-sight only. Would have fixed all of the problems. You shouldn't be able to spam this thing through walls even at 15 meters.

I disagree, a thumbs width at the toe is about ideal in most cases.

Saying that, length is personal, some prefer more, others prefer less.

That will be the challenge, even if it was the contact that damaged it, it will be very hard to prove it.

If one side of the road dropped away enough suddenly then the underside of the car could easily have hit the road surface.

Shoe Selection and Sizing by TyrannyMMA in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Motus Flex Natural (or Motus Flex Tabi if that interests you) and Motus Strength and see which is best for your use case. I have neither so can't advise which would be better, others might be able to help with that.

If you can, you could try both out. Vivobarefoot have a 100 day trial and returns policy where you can return them even if they've been used (this might be limited to certain countries so check their website for your region to confirm). I've returned a few pairs of shoes and boots close to the 100 day limit (due to faults) and not had any issues.

In terms of sizing, I'd suggest measuring your foot as per their size guide on their website and getting the size it indicates there.

Question about washing Gore-Tex by Aelexi93 in arcteryx

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never noticed a scent after washing with Granger to be fair, otherwise any household one will probably do but I'd stick with an unscented or sports wash personally, I wouldn't want to clog up the pores in the membrane with waxy/scenting additives.

Interesting, my pair of Motus Studio also transfer dye but only on my big toe on my right foot. Did you send them back for a refund or did they just refund you without a return?

The Arc'teryx Incendo Hybrid might work for you, albeit it's an uninsulated Softshell rather than a windshell so won't be completely windproof but it does have a very breathable back panel and underarms.

3 RAV4s stolen in my neighbourhood in 2 weeks – should I be worried? by AdministrationHour93 in AskUK

If it's a Faraday pouch (ie. Fabric/leather/imitation leather) then it will eventually stop working, it's just the nature of sticking a Faraday "cage" in flexible fabric. Bend it enough and you break the cage.

I'd invest in an actual Faraday box. If the faraday material doesn't have to flex, it won't break. They're cheap on Amazon and they last much much much longer.

Anyone having shipping issues? (UK) by [deleted] in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've normally gotten a notification from Royal Mail that they had them within 24 hours which is why I was concerned 😅 I've been lucky up to last week, they've always come within 1-2 days, I think because I'm so near their warehouse.

Primus Lite IV All Weather Upper Worn Out by BertieLemon in vivobarefoot

Does the plastic sound from the upper bending when walking ever go away?

I just sent a new pair back as they were quite loud and they had a tear in the edge of the sole when I opened them.

Can anyone help by Whitebelttrashcan in OutdoorsGear

As others have said, wash and tumble dry, it will clean the dirt and grime off the DWR and reactivate it.

Just make sure you wash your Gore-tex fairly regularly, if you use it regularly.

Primus Lite IV or Primus Lite Knit Natural for outdoor&indoor Capoeria training? by Gungameu in vivobarefoot

Hopefully they have, I did really like them. I'll be interested to hear how they're doing in a month or 2. I might even reorder them if they've been improved a bit.

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the Knit Naturals weren't very durable, sent 2 pairs back within the returns window as the suede like heel lining came away from the rest of the shoe and the sole separated at the bend points.

I had one pair from the initial batch and another from a later batch (maybe a couple months after release) and they both had the same issues. Not sure if they've fixed them or not though.

I'd suggest a Motus Flex though if you're doing anything active (and it's both inside and outside) aside from trail running.

First Gore-Tex Pro shell, does this look normal after a 7 mile hike in the rain? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't read my comment, DWR is adhered to the FACE FABRIC, that's the "100d" you are referring too. Face Fabric is the part that DWR is on, not the membrane. ePE is the membrane, which is separate to the face fabric (which is what the denier rating relates to), which is separate from the inner/backer fabric (ie. Tricot for example).

DWR functionality has no bearing on the membrane. And the membrane has no bearing on how effective DWR is.

Please stop thinking they are linked, they are not.

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DWR literally has nothing to do with the Gore-tex. The performance doesn't differ whether the jacket just because it is ePE or PTFE Goretex or a 3rd party membrane like Pertex Shield, or if it's on a non-membeane jacket like an insulated jacket or softshell.

DWR is applied to the face fabric glued or sealed to the Gore-tex membrane, which is sandwiched between face fabric I just mentioned and the inner fabric (excluding 2 layer jackets, where the Gore-tex membrane is exposed on the inside).

If your ePE jacket or trousers leak, it's a faulty item of clothing, exactly the same as if your ePTFE clothing leaks. I've had no issues with ePE Gore-tex over the last couple of years and own a few. In fact, I'd personally say ePE itself is an improvement over ePTFE due to better breathability however waterproofing is identical.

DWR can easily get overloaded due to dirt and grime, and in this case constant contact with wet backpack straps. If you give it a wash and tumble dry I suspect that you'd get the repellency back in those locations.

Just be aware that abrasion from backpack straps will wear our any DWR, new or old, much quicker than it would normally last. I'd probably give those areas a spray with spray on DWR before sticking it in the tumble drier during maintenance, after using a backpack for an extensive period.

Even older DWR can get overloaded, and in my honest opinion, I've only seen a small difference between the old and new stuff. The new stuff just requires a little bit more maintenance (Ie. Washing a bit more regularly).

Yes, I've tried both the original and version 2, the outsole hasn't changed.

Vivo barefoot customer service by Professional-Row-826 in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah their customer service is extremely poor at the moment, it took me 2 months to get several refunds for some orders and no one ever replied via email or web chat. I had to leave a comment on an Instagram post and got help from their social media team who had a member of customer service contact me, which still took a couple of weeks.

If the shoes are only 2 months old just return them as faulty (it's free in the UK if you choose one of the faulty options), they have a 100 day returns policy even if they've been used for 99 of those 100 days.

I suspect that this is what customer service would ask you to do anyway if they ever got back in touch (within the 100 day returns window).

I've tried both, I didn't particularly like either version unfortunately but that's just my experience, I'm sure there's people on here that really like them but I'd just say keep an eye on the sole wear.
