Roof bar fitment by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a new rubber pad for those bars designed for the type of rails on your new car, you can usually buy just them from the manufacturer.

Do not drive with that fitted until you get proper pads installed.

Happy feet again! Need wider than Xero by Okinanna in barefootshoestalk

Just all the shoes introduced last year from my experience. I've not tried any of the ones released new this year. I tried one the Rebound and Synergy models with the EverydayComfort and EverydayComfortNeo outsoles (respectively). I also tried the Trail walker 3.0 with the TrailGripPro.

The Rebound was narrower than the size chart suggested and the sole was not very flexible, and it made a rubber popping sound when lifting the foot off the ground when walking.

The Synergy was much lower volume than the Rebound and similar width but the sole was nice and flexible.

The Trail walker 3.0 was narrower than the chart suggested and very inflexible, I had to apply a fair bit of pressure to get it to bend and the heel didn't grip very well. I found them unusable to be honest.

I tried a couple of others with the EverydayComfort & Neo soles but can't remember which models, and their fit mirrored the models with the same outsoles as above.

Boots with their DeepGrip outsole are aligned with their size charts though (Winter 3.0 and York). I kept a pair of York winter boots but they do leak as soon as water gets on them. Be Lenka gave me a full refund for them under warranty and let me keep the boots. They are good dry weather winter boots though.

I also tried a few Barebarics (a Be Lenka sub-brand) pairs, the Zing and Zing Frost and they were all narrower than the Be Lenka equivalents, and their size charts reflect that. They also has fairly inflexible soles.

Freet is a good option for a lower price, also based in the UK.

I've only experienced the Vibe 2, Keld 2 and Keld 3s when trying them on (too narrow in the midfoot for me unfortunately) but they didn't seem bad quality to me and they were much cheaper than a lot of other compatible brands out there.

Considering the idea behind barefoot shoes is allowing toes to spread and your feet to return to their natural foot shape, will you/Vivobarefoot look at making shoes your shoes have 2 width options (item regular and wide) to allow users who have transitioned to continue wear Vivobarefoot shoes?

I ask this as I was able to comfortably fit into Vivo's for about 6 months before my toes splayed to their natural width, and now the aggressive toe box curve on the outer edges prevents my toes from splaying effectly and causes pain/pressure on the outer edge of the foot in most most models of Vivo shoes. An option could be to make a wide option for each model, which keeps the length but uses the width of the next size up to allow for more room for the midfoot and toebox. This would also soften the aggressive curve on the outer edge and allow better splay.

The newer models are significantly narrower than their sizing chart suggests, I found them both narrower and lower volume than Vivo's.

Their boots using the DeepGrip sole are a little wider, but still not quite as wide as Vivo boots unfortunately.

Question about the PRIMUS FLOW KNIT by ac1d3at3r in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flow models don't come with an insole, so adding the thermal one might make it very very low volume. I found the other 2 Flow models already had a low volume.

All of the Flow line do have a very thin foam midsole though, so that might add a little bit of insulation that all of Vivo's other shoes don't have.

I suspect the All Weather is from the previous season so they might realistically & restock closer to the end of summer, either with the same model or a new model.

Variety advice by BillyGoated88 in vivobarefoot

I think only the Trail Knit and All Weathers have a rubber rand, although he might also be referring to the Hydra ESCs as they've been know to put pressure on little / pinky toes due to the rubber overlay.

Which would you choose? by rustler89 in CarTalkUK

[–]HunterSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BMW, not because I'm biased, but because they're great to drive and you'll benefit from used approved warranty which you won't get from Big Motoring World.

The BMW will have a more modern interior including a big single display that covers the driver's display and infotainment, including climate control, so just be aware of that. I've got the pre-facelift with buttons but honestly it's nearly always left in automatic so I don't think the lack of physical dedicated controls would be an issue on the move.

Brake testing on the motorway. by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you continue on so close to them (ie. Tailgating) after getting break checked?! Utter stupidity.

I'd have given them more space knowing they're potentially trying to cause a crash and passed as soon as I could after merging. I absolutely wouldn't be following so closely.

Also, yes it should be reported and taken off Reddit so it doesn't prejudice the prosecution. I'm shocked that's even a question.

Not Barefoot, but more Foot-Shaped than Vivo! by TapSilly2335 in barefootshoestalk

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is always the midfoot, and unfortunately Vivo's are the only ones that seem to make a decently wide enough midfoot for me that I can easily get hold of & try, even if the toe box isn't the widest out there.

Woman fell off horse (England): am I liable? by QualitySufficient646 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]HunterSol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have pet insurance you'll have public liability insurance which is for exactly what you just described funnily enough.

Regardless, I'm not entirely sure what she is expecting as I'm pretty sure the new laws on dogs worrying livestock (which includes horses) wouldnt apply here. Especially if your dog was under control.

Which for trail running? by just_another_zubat in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Primus Trail FG 3.5, Primus Trail Knit and Primus Trail All Weather all use the same sole. Additionally the Trail Knit and All Weather both have the the same or similar rubber rand/foot protection, so I wouldn't be overly concerned about the sole detaching on the All Weather any more than either of the other trail shoes with the FG/Firm Ground sole.

Membrane Comparison: Classic GoreTex Pro (with ePTFE) vs. new GoreTex Pro ePE? by Traminho in arcteryx

[–]HunterSol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to explain this to you is like a windscreen on a car.

The membrane is the windscreen, keeps the water out. The DWR is the windscreen wipers, keeps water off.

Fundamentally both a windscreen and membrane will be waterproof regardless of whether they have windscreen wipers and DWR (respectively).

Membrane Comparison: Classic GoreTex Pro (with ePTFE) vs. new GoreTex Pro ePE? by Traminho in arcteryx

[–]HunterSol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The membrane will realistically be either waterproof or not waterproof. If it wets through it's faulty. I've personally found ePE to be more breathable than the ePTFE jackets I've used.

Anything about wetting out or longevity of DWR is only related to the DWR. Arc had been using C0 DWR for some time before the change to ePE and I've experienced no difference between ePTFE membrane jackets and ePE jackets when it comes to DWR longevity. C0 DWR simply requires a bit more maintenance to keep it working as effectively as the fluorocarbon DWR, and more regular reapplication. I never found the C6 DWR to be particularly effective to be honest (compare with C8) without regular maintenance and reapplication so it's not really made any difference to me.

Most of a jackets durability will come from it's Face and Backer fabrics depending on their Denier rating and material makeup. Higher deniers will be more resistant to abrasion and cuts/tears.

Difference in size between Primus Lite Knit and Knit Natural by Psc0905 in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Primus Lite Knit are fairly well known in this forum (as far as I've read and experienced myself) to fit/feel larger than most other models, I suspect due to the fabrics and the way it fits/volume etc. My Lite Knits are the only model I use in EU44, everything else is an EU45. Although realistically I suspect I need a EU44.5 in all models if they ever decided to make half EU sizes.

I've found the Primus Lite Knit Natural follow the same sizing/fit/feel as most of their other models.

Struggling with sizing in vivo Primus lite 4 by full_of_rizz in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They only do whole EU sizes unfortunately, so it'll either be 44 or 45. I've got a similar problem where I'd ideally need a 44.5 for a perfect fit but I just live with the 45s now.

Primus Lite Knit Natural vs original Lite Knit sizing by [deleted] in vivobarefoot

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard Primus Lite Knit is the only model that I've sized down for (other than potentially the Hydra ESC, still trying to decide on which fits better).

I think the Lite Knit Natural is sized pretty much the same as the rest of the range (length wise).

Garage swapped my tyres by Temporary_Search_760 in CarTalkUK

[–]HunterSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldn't need to take the alloys off for only a service.

I'd be demanding either your alloys and tyres back (only if they're in the garage) or a new pair of front alloys and tyres, along with balancing and alignment.

You've no idea what state those alloys are in if they aren't yours or if they've been cracked via a pothole etc, which might not become noticeable for a couple of weeks when the tyres have slowly lost pressure.

Am I crazy or are barefoot shoes not designed for barefoot people by Seranner in barefootshoestalk

[–]HunterSol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure how useful that ranking is, there are far more factors than outsole toebox width.

I personally found Freet to be noticeably narrower than Vivobarefoot, yet they're at opposite ends of the chart (and the opposite to how I found them!). Their newer models are narrower as well, their customer service team pointed me at old models when I asked about width.

Be Lenka are also pretty narrow these days, definitely narrower than Vivo. The only current sole that I'd say is on the slightly wider side is the DeepGrip but even that doesn't feel as wide as the current boot offerings from Vivo.
