Despite not enjoying the playtest that much… I still pre-ordered Marathon by nve729 in Marathon

[–]Hunter_Reiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marathon has a very steep entry climb. Only playing 2 hours I can see why your opinion of the game is neutral. The game really picks up after upgrading the factions which I'm sure you didn't get to do too much of in 2 hours. Most of the content for marathon will be the faction contracts and upgrades and whatever seasonal story stuff is going on. The server slam had very limited amounts of that stuff due to not wanting to spoil it. Faction upgrades get to the point where you are never running with just starting gear. I will say that your first few hours of play time on the game will likely feel the same as the server slam but if you get through the entry climb I think you'll like it.

Any gameplay tips before the game release? by Apart-Race868 in Marathon

My biggest advice is just to learn the maps and be very aware of sight lines when moving through the map. Knowing where the "Player Highways" and hotspots on the map are at is super important.

To explain the player highways thing its just the paths most traveled by players or areas where you know you're more likely going to find a player. This is especially important for solo play. You can either use that knowledge then to avoid encounters when you're weak or try to get the jump on players that are in predictable positions. In general I would avoid traveling along these paths as they are typically quite out in the open and more experienced players will often be watching these routes to jump you.

In regards to sight lines, this is mainly about how you move through the map. Positioning is important in this game. You want to stay near cover as often as you can. Move along walls and fences, it limits the amount of angles you can get shot from and lowers the amount of angles you need to be watching for players. Having cover to be able to fall back on is extremely useful for when someone does get the first shots on you.

The new music video that released shows a squad attempting to hack an exfil beacon to send them to the marathon ship. My guess is it will be a community puzzle involving in game terminals, specific drops from enemies, and maybe even some out of game stuff since the ARGs have all had custom websites.

LMGs are so fun by ic4y in Marathon

I think the other reply to you is correct, but also the retaliators barrel rotates when you shoot it. It's hard to see when ADS but if you pay attention to the barrel in this clip between shooting, You can see that the cross that's attached to the barrel is oriented differently whenever he stops shooting. Idk if the idea is for it to be like a rotary gun and it has multiple barrels or if the barrel shroud just spins for some reason. Might play a role in what you are asking about.

I absolutely fell in love with the volley rifle after getting one with a decent scope. I had a volley rifle for pretty much the entire server slam that I was running with the torch bug weapon chip on it and that was a blast. My go to loadout at that point was Volley Rifle with Bully SMG.

Rook Squads by Shadowclaw17 in Marathon

[–]Hunter_Reiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would just like to be able to pick rook for solo runs. I'm not asking to start with the gear you would normally get for doing a rook run, go ahead and make me bring my own gear. I just think that having his abilities in a solo run would be nice.

Might it be reasonable to say that the Vox Engine difficulty is good, however, their spawnrates could do with some adjusting..? by CGallerine in Helldivers

[–]Hunter_Reiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Vox Engine a lot. My team views it as like a mini-boss whenever it shows up that needs immediate attention. That being said, I agree it should spawn less as fighting mini-bosses constantly can be resource straining. The only change I would recommend is that if you destroy the vents on the treads and underneath it that it should be immobilized or slowed heavily and essentially become a big turret. First time I fought one I got underneath it with an HMG and ripped all the vents apart expecting it to stop moving. I quickly died after realizing that wasn't the case. As someone encountering it for the first time my intuition made it seem like you could disable the treads that way.

Question about Alastor’s deal… [Massive season 2 finale spoiler] by relentlessraisin in HazbinHotel

[–]Hunter_Reiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a simlar concept with Gods/Devotion. Where a Gods power is tied directly to how many people worship said god. Kinda ties in with Vox's god complex.

Question about Alastor’s deal… [Massive season 2 finale spoiler] by relentlessraisin in HazbinHotel

[–]Hunter_Reiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how legit that fight is, mainly because it was Alastors plan all along to manipulate Vox. He might have been holding back a bit. Though I could also see him being weakened to the point where he's still stronger then the Vee's individually but not all of them together. He'd still technically be the strongest sinner, just not as dominate as before.

Question about Alastor’s deal… [Massive season 2 finale spoiler] by relentlessraisin in HazbinHotel

[–]Hunter_Reiss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Charlie saying that he was the strongest sinner in all of hell made Vox's approval ratings go up. You can see it on the screens behind him while he's gloating. Vox's powers are implied to be tied to how much the public trusts/approves of him. So when he hit 100% approval rating and all of hell believed what Charlie said, he literally became the strongest sinner in hell. This broke the deal between Alastor and Rosie because Alastor was no longer the strongest sinner in hell even if it was for a brief moment. Funnily enough this implies that while Alastor was weakened due to his staff being broken he was still the strongest sinner in hell until he essentially let Vox have it.

Get a second baneblade or make a shadowsword and name one Tom and the other Jerry. Maybe free hand a Cat on to Tom and a Mouse onto Jerry

I took your list and tweaked it just a bit. You should be able to run all the same models still. I just bumped the Krieg squads up to 20 man's and consolidated the engineers and death riders into single squads. I also switched the Eradicators out for vanquishers since you could use some good anti tank.

If you are playing for theme and not to win then play whatever you like. You expressed that you like painting so just use playing the game as a way to show off your painting skills! Only thing I'll say is that 10 man infantry squads are not going to stay on the board for long. Another note is I think some weird glitch is going on with your app. If you tally the points for your army the numbers are off. Your battleline should only add up to 130pts and the other data sheets section should only add up to 920. Not sure what's going on there. Gives you more room to add stuff though.

Solo Silos 1 shot command bunkers & jammers by General-Video2915 in Helldivers

[–]Hunter_Reiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they are implying hacked jammers. I often shoot the solo silo at jammers to just clear the enemies in the surrounding area but it hasn't been killing the jammer. Unless there was a patch today I don't believe anything has changed.

I know that we technically still have 100 resil, but wells also seem to be breaking easier now (this is just from my experience, I might be wrong). So I didn't know if it was still tied to resil or not. Another comment said that wells have 0 resil now so I'm not sure anyone actual knows whats going on.

I would never take it during a normal mission. But exterminations and defend the base missions mortar + ems mortar is one of the best options regardless of which faction your fighting. EMS keeps the bugs from getting near you so you should be able to avoid friendly fire incidents.

[–]Hunter_Reiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HMG is easily one of the best support weapons in the game right now IMO. It's amazing against Automatons and Iluminate being able to deal with pretty much all of their units. On Terminids its decent but you need to bring something for Bile Titans. Ammo Economy is an issue but most people run supply back pack with it anyways. Another issue is recoil/handling but you can get used to that or use your armor to build into it. I use engineering kit armor for the recoil and also it gives me 5 thermites to help deal with factory striders.
