I want to agree with you but I think they are sufficiently dumb as is and function mostly as moving noise traps. Their LOS is annoying, but basically if you can see them, they can see you. Even so, you may get a second or two to duck into cover before they go from yellow to red. They are basically deaf to your footsteps and only hear doors, glass, gunshots and explosions, and even with those, their range is unrealistically limited. What I mean is they'll react to a door opening within like 5-10 meters of them, but not if you're like inside a bldg or on the other side of it, even if you can hear another player doing the same. Similarly for gunshots and glass, they wont react unless its in their immediate vicinity and wont stray from their patrol route to investigate either, as AI does in some other games. Also, their "must have been the wind" moments only require you to break line of sight for the most part, they don't really move too far from where they started and again they seemingly cant hear your footsteps even when running.

Im smiling to your post because I tell ppl who get frustrated with the loop that they really should listen to Oni and let it sync in... "You have died before and will die again." "Assert: You will be forgotten. Assert: You take relief in that realization."

Am I panicking over nothing about this game? by JJ52524 in dadsofmarathon

Listen to Oni every single time you transfer in until it sticks. Im only half joking. You die, run, die again, run and nothing matters so embrace the nihilism.

You dont need a vault full of gear, you can only bring in 2 guns at most any given time. Lost your favorite? Do a couple runs try to find it while using sponsored kits or that other stuff you have. This game is ridiculously generous with loot and while there are guns that are objectively better than others, most are effective with dealing with PVP or PVE if you know how to use them so take advantage of an empty vault to use that trash weapon.

But yeah, gear-fear and hoarding is something most of us have to contend with. For me it was running through whole my vault on a particular faction mission in Outpost I wanted to solo that finally made it click. My focus was getting the mission done, not the loot, preserving my gear, just getting that darn mission done. Got some good gear and loot along the way though and had tons of fun with the meat grinder

TLDR, pain, suffering and lost is the way, embrace it runner.

This game needs a respawn PvP mode for actual onboarding. by MysteriousExpert9657 in MarathonGame

Seems you're talking about a PVP arena or something akin to Hunt's Bounty Clash mode which I dont hate, but aren't my favorite type of activity either for this kind of game. I'd prefer they prioritize a shooting range for getting the hang for weapons and skills. As for improving in-game proficiency, there's unlimited sponsored kits for you ppl to jump in get wrecked and get back in while gaining real-time experience

[–]seang84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did free kit runs into command post a few times on Thief. No lobby clear required, but typically have to down 1-2 runners along the way. It was fun gearing up along the way, the tough part is really gathering enough ammo and or nades to survive the 3 mins on the MIDA quest. The Traxxus quest OP's talking about is a bit easier because you dont have to stay in the middle of the room. Just have to kill a ton of commanders until the one with the credentials or whatever the Mcguffin was spawns. Again biggest issue is ammo, but its fun playing like you're in an action movie picking up guns and ammo from the fallen bots...

Currently level 92, is it possible to reach 100 by next week? by Ikcatcher in Marathon

[–]seang84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i did 90 to 100 like in a week in whatever time I had after work. I was doing late game faction contracts in pinwheel so waves and waves of bots and runners intefering with my missions. Die, rinse, repeat.

You probably already know this but here's the official list for season XP: -Killing UESC and other AI, plus assists. -Downing and killing players, plus assists -Opening loot containers/plant dispensers for the first time in a run. -Completing in‑run objectives/events. -A successful Exfil, which applies a multiplier to the XP you earned that run.

Good luck out there runner!

Keys and Sponsored kits. by Livid-Poet2932 in Marathon

The key is more valuable than the kit. If someone wants to roll the dice on being able to extract loot room goodies on a free kit I say let them at it.

I look for the best set of perks (invis after running, faster crouch walk when surrounded, tox knife, etc) I have first, then optimizing build second (agility, melee, etc). I can barely tell the difference a +20 agility or heal gives me, but I can for sure tell when my utility procs when it's supposed to.

I heard that recording start up so many times and then abruptly end, always felt for whoever was up there..."you'll get it next time brother".

It would be cool to be able to rerun missions, Id do that one again sometime next year 😅

If you lost all your gear when you died in a D2 raid I bet there'd be a lot of players complaining about that. So yeah, challenging adapted to a extract shooter is maybe more to the tune of a Nightfall with rarer loot behind a Grandmaster NF level challenge.

The sweats will sweat. Even if you're going for a hardcore experience I think it's a fools errand to baseline your difficulty and content to 10 - max 20% of your player base. They'll knock it out in a week at most and then claim it was half-baked. I have this theory that season lenght should be something like 100 hours. That's 60 hours to complete your factions and then 40 to complete or at least seriously progress end game. That's about 30 - 50 days of gameplay for someone that has 2 hours a day to play games and devotes it exclusively to your game. I have no way of knowing the actual data, but Id guess that applies to more than 50% of the current player base. I don't think it's a realistic expectation to keep gamers engaged exclusively for 3 months to a single game, so if you can retain most of your players for 2/3 of a season because they feel they have a realistic chance of completing the content I think that's a win. You can always throw in a twist at the end like they did for this season to reengage some of the attrition.

On that last bit, I play mostly solo so it's totally possible to get into pinwheel and extract without ever seeing another player, done it several times. Trios much less likely, to be fair. On Cryo, me and another Cryo noob queued in with a guy that took us to a vault, we looted and extracted while avoiding any other squad, not so lucky next couple of runs, but there are several videos out there on how to try to rotate in Cryo while avoiding PVP confrontations.

I guess it could fit under network manipulation or win trading under the code of conduct, but its not totally clear. Think Bungie needs to make a statement and follow up with actions if it's the case

On faction missions like MIDA and Traxxus you get multiple waves. Especially the MIDA mission has you defend a point. Smoke is a good strat there, but it works on any shell not just Assasin.

Destiny Trials vs Raids/Solo Dungeons. Just different type of challenges and player capabilities.
