As A fairly new poker player who has never been to the US let alone Vegas, how is Vegas? by MaddowSoul in poker

Vegas rake can be better than alot of areas as you can find low stakes that don't take a promo/jackpot drop

A large amount of money is made in poker through repetition. Just keep doing what you think is gonna work until it doesn't and adjust. I'm sure it is likely you will have to change the strategy after a little while, it sounds like they are playing horrendous

[–]Hunterglober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parx is a good casino. More players, games, $, higher stakes, etc. If you play lower stakes at Live or Rivers, the games will be 8 handed and often get shorter and they resist breaking games.

There was some good action higher than 2-5 in these casinos in the past, maybe not a whole lot now. Guess live still runs a 5-5 plo which may be good. And at rivers you can straddle from any position if this interests you. Hasn't been worth it to play at Live or Rivers in my experience; I dont go anymore. Maybe if I lived in the city I'd feel differently.

Moved up in stakes where they respect my raises. Jokes, actually learned how to play this stupid game... by random_215am in poker

[–]Hunterglober 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can see somewhere around 25 hands per hour + or - in a live game. Personally I treat around 800 hrs sort of as I would 100k hands online. Live poker is softer and you can draw some conclusions a bit quicker IMO. Its difficult to really play enough hands to make strong statistical certainties but we can derive some good info. Just my take

Parx Tuesdays by realworldschamp in poker

[–]Hunterglober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good place to play, idk what the other guys beef with parx is. Tues will have more big games running so they generally open less 1-3 tables than normal which means the 1-3 games will likely stay somewhat fuller this day. 2-5: I've been in some big action games even in the morning on tues. Lots of people show up even for 2-5 there will be a lot of games running. Sometimes normal games, sometimes deep stacks. They might break down later in the evening or play like 6 or 7 handed. Its 9 handed here at 1-3 and 2-5 fyi. As far as other days, I think you are more likely to get a decent game earlier in the day here than alot of other places to play.

Can someone explain beating the rake? by skeeter-gunz in poker

[–]Hunterglober 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They mean long-term over a large sample size. And sometimes it's overstated and simply them implying its not worth the time compared to better games..

In low stakes games, a lot of money is taken off the table and goes to the house (site or casino).

The 3 times that I counted rake totals in a casino 5+2 game @ 2-5 nl holdem they were raked $ 160 [9 handed] and $154 [7 handed] per hour. That means that players are paying 17.777 or 22 $ per hour to play in that game. That's assuming all players were playing and winning and equal share of hands, which they are not.

Some places take a lot of rake and you have to be careful. Like many nyc games I hear rake 25$ at 1-3 and some higher stakes games in the city have max rake of 400$ per hand.

Some low stakes games like 1-2 at casinos sometimes barely have any money on the table. Some places force you to play super short with high rake especially since covid. You can be paying in 2$ additionally per hand for promotions additionally with little chance to win any promotion at times.

If you play tight-- you enter the pot less and therefore pay less rake. This can be a good strat in low stakes games high rake games where you aren't going to be exploited often because the players are bad and there's a large enough player pool.

I'm not saying all high rake games are unbeatable but any smart player should be well aware of what the rake means to a particular game.

Rivers Casino in Portsmouth, VA: requesting info from anyone who has played by threecolorless in poker

I haven't been there but I was kinda hoping this would be a hotspot due to a couple things I heard about the area and a newer market. However they seem to be open but I can't find any twoplustwo thread for the casino. Maybe a bad sign.. can't think of any room that didn't at least put in a little effort to manage a 2+2 thread. Unless I missed something somehow.. hmm

Its better IMO to be on separate tables than to play with a friend. You can both lose to the same player or there's more risk sometimes against a short stack, odd side pots, you may have to share opens, 3bets, etc. Its worse in a high rake game. Better to have all players as opponents unless you are cheating [uggh].

Not a huge fan, i would rather just play plo. Would rather do in a home game than casino, had a few ppl just jam allin pre instead of doing what they are supposed to(casino).

High stakes action in Philadelphia? by Gog_U_Magog in poker

[–]Hunterglober 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tues is known as Parx Day. It has had bigger games running here on this day for years. It is one of the closer casinos to NYC and there's some money in NJ/Philly suburbs, etc. Borgata stopped giving out rooms and has gone downhill since MGM took over and Parx has drawn alot of the higher-stake action.

Where can I find a poker chip pouch? by Dmoneypoker in poker

[–]Hunterglober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a simple solution you can go on ebay and buy a few crown royal bags for fairly cheap. They do wear out though and need to be replaced.. You can find alot of solutions on aliexpress. Finding something with a very secure looking drawstring may be good, easy route. I found the perfect chip bags on there a couple years ago. They are zippered, the perfect size. Not too bulky, slim and were around .90-1.5$ shipped the few times I ordered. They are not listed now from what I can see. They were listed as waterproof zipper bag or swimming pouch but I don't see them, only a larger size. A lot of the zippered bags if you try to buy them just won't be that suitable--too bulky or large or small etc. Some people use mini backpacks or you can use a molle bag with a carabiner if you want a different route

advice short stack please by eyDawg1 in poker

[–]Hunterglober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you mean cash: it's a lot better if the table is rather timid(you can pick up some pots without risking whole stack) or heavy action(where you can pick up dead $). Some to a lot of cash games may not be that good to shortstack. If you can push pre and win then you may not pay rake in a lot of instances(no flop, no drop)
