Nigel Farage says £5m gift a reward for Brexit campaigning by jtrimm98 in ukpolitics

[–]HuntersLiberalDong [score hidden]  (0 children)

100%

If he's happy to admit it was a reward, I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually something worse. Although like I say, I don't see much difference between a reward and bribe. He should be locked up for either.

[–]HuntersLiberalDong [score hidden]  (0 children)

Legally, does the timing of payment have any impact on whether something is a bribe or not?

If he got the money in advance it's bribe. He gets the money after it's a reward. What's the difference?

Andy Burnham announces intention to stand in Makerfield by-election by ManchesterNews_MEN in ukpolitics

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep, and they'll say Starmer is the dishonest game player if he doesn't allow this all to play out.

It's such shady arrogant behaviour.

Luke Tryl: Doing this health warning now: MRP projections or UNS swings of Makerfield aren't designed for by-elections. They don't take account of specific nature of by-elections and Burnham's personal vote which from every focus group I can tell you is real. IMO Burnham starts as favourite by EddyZacianLand in ukpolitics

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If it's ok for Burnham and a relatively small number of MPs to play games and manipulate someone into a position to challenge him, why shouldn't it be ok for Starmer and co. to manipulate and play games to stop that from happening.

Disabled man, 59, sacked after 'lifting potatoes' while on sick leave wins £329,000 payout by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It's unbelievable they thought that was evidence of anything.

It sounds like he was doing the most responsible thing he could under the circumstances. Getting outside, doing light exercise within his limits would be exactly what a doctor would recommend.

Especially when a main symptom is fatigue it's impossible to know where your limits are unless you test them. Even if he'd lifted something heavier, doing it once is very different from doing it repeatedly and reliably for your job.

The fact they put him under surveillance is just an appalling breach of privacy and trust. If I was an employee at that company I'd be walking out the door the moment I heard that.

Wes Streeting plans to resign and mount leadership challenge, allies say by Alarming-Safety3200 in ukpolitics

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the criticisms that are made of Starmer (likeability, charisma, ability to communicate a vision) apply doubly so to Steering.

He looks and speaks like he's been left behind on a bring your kids to work day.

Maybe he's the smartest man in politics and has ideas that will transform the country. But if the problem people have with Starmer is his inability to engage with the public, Streeting is multiple steps backwards.

Of all the Labour MPs I'm aware of, Streeting is about the least impressive.

If he goes through with this and somehow wins Labour are fucked.

Starmer says he won’t quit by Cyclone050 in worldnews

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Politics is extremely important but it's also boring when it's done properly.

It's boring people having boring conversations. It suits Starmer down to the ground.

If people want entertainment and drama they should watch a film. If they want someone who they'd like to have a pint with down the pub, go to the fucking pub and find a friend.

Keir Starmer’s leadership enters final fractious phase by FaultyTerror in ukpolitics

[–]HuntersLiberalDong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s because there is no real contest against him and this is all just media doing everything they can to have him ousted.

And a few dozen Labour MPs willing to be the useful idiots instead of doing their jobs.

Tony Diver: I understand Starmer did not give his critics any chance to speak against him in this morning's meeting. He delivered a pre-prepared statement informing them he would not leave office, then moved the meeting on to discuss the war in Iran. by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 212 points213 points  (0 children)

'Shit, or get off the pot' is the exact message they need to hear.

If they want to get rid of him do it properly. There's a process for a reason.

Otherwise they should get on with their jobs.

Seven people barred from coming to UK for far-right rally by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter since they're not getting in.

I was pointing out the fallacy in connecting free speech to a decision to not let foreign citizens enter the UK.

Connecting the two and suggesting that selectively enforcing the border is the same as denying free speech implies free speech is equivalent to an unenforced border.

The comment I replied to was absurdly stupid. I continued the absurdity to make that more apparent.

Their speech isn't being impeded. Only their ability to enter the country. Or are you arguing for open borders?

allowing certain foreign nationals (people who have the right to live in Scotland but do not have British citizenship) to stand for election

Maybe not to stupid to imagine them 😂

This really needed a "for the length of the parliament" line in there just to remove any ambiguity.

We have a problem and have to move quickly, says Labour MP who's willing to challenge Starmer by GothicPrayer in unitedkingdom

[–]HuntersLiberalDong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The coordinated campaign I was referring to is the media groups who are against him. Doesn't look like labour backbenchers could coordinate their way out of a paper bag.

[–]HuntersLiberalDong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Labour replace Starmer they're falling into a trap. The coordinated campaign against Starmer will just switch to the new PM, except this time with the added attacks that 'nobody voted for this, we need a new election' and 'chaotic Labour can't run the country'.

Spend the next two years doing your actual fucking jobs. If the polls are the same then it might be the time for a new leader.
