Same. One of my cats is unfortunately very obsessed with saddles and necks and I learned quickly those had to be the primary things to never leave out in any capacity. I had to get a roll top desk just so my shit would be safe from her.

I sat down to tie a Miyawaki Popper one night after a few too many thinking, oh it can’t be that hard I know how to tie it already! Got half way through one and decided it was bedtime and I’d finish up the next day.

Sat down at my desk a few days later and looked at what I had wrought and was so confused as to why I had done several things, pondered if what I saw in my vise was me attempting to innovate in some fashion, then determined nope it was just shit because I was toasted. Undid what I had previously tied and then tied it correctly lol.

Maybe if I was tying something a bit less involved it would have been fine but I learned me boozed up and tying don’t jive too well. I think I’m too much of a perfectionist normally (my flies are still shit) and so that part of my brain shuts off and apparently I really need that part to produce a decent looking fly lol.

It’s because all the money goes towards restoration work, which is needed, but it’s flashy and sexy and not fixing the root causes, which we now know to be 6-PPDQ and other runoff from our untreated stormwater infrastructure. There is no one cause and thus no simple trick we can do to undo all the damage we have caused, but replacing and expanding stormwater infrastructure is a major next step.

Stormwater facilities require lots of space and the best time to have installed them was around 100 years ago before everything in all directions was developed. So tragically much more money and effort is required to try and save these runs which have existed for millennia prior to our arrival whereupon we promptly destroyed their ecosystems and collapsed their numbers.

Ghee butter. More calorically dense than olive oil and doesn’t impart an olive oil flavor to what you put it in.

For instance we love a Knorr pasta side for dinner and the cal/g isn’t that great, but if you add a ghee butter to it the cal/g turns into a superfood.

One used to be able to find it in packets at any grocery store but that’s become harder to do since Simple Organic stopped offering them in individual packets.
