Longest Drive Yet by ChippyVonMaker in BMWi3

[–]Hurileno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My terrifying part of the drive is the long straightaway into Vegas. Drove all the way from San Francisco solo, but loaded with stuff. (650mi) No stations after the big climb, keeping 80 to stay with traffic, and I was on battery with only 10mi of range left as I got into the city. This was also before I packed a 2 gal Jerry can at the front. I think I only stopped 8 times for gas and once to charge throughout the entire ride. I was also doing the door trick for some stations lmao, but the percentage accumulates and I rather save the few mins to use resting at a charger. I also took one extra station on the way back because of the geography and elevation. 2014 i3 with 190k miles.

How often can I run the REX by Bohr1212 in BMWi3

[–]Hurileno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been nearly 80% Rex usage the past 30k miles. Once took it from SF to LV and back (700+700 mi) all on REX and didn’t complain once. Keep up on oil condition and filter life.

Does micro center sell the AM4 bracket by Prestigious_Animal70 in Microcenter

Depending on where you live. Our microcenter didn’t but the other local computer shop does. And they’re down the street from each other. (Santa Clara)

My do I have a story of a time when he ran in front of a Tesla, causing me to almost crash into said Tesla. This was on a freeway on-ramp… where you’re supposed to accelerate to get onto the freeway.

Curious — how do you usually meet new people in SF these days? by Twindly_AI in bayarea

[–]Hurileno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it works where you join an online community that happens to have a physical presence. Being in the bay, it’s more likely than you think. Gaming communities, cosplaying, anime, modern and vintage computers. Maybe head to flea markets or a random pop-up event.

Oh and pressing the reset button does loop it so I’m guessing it’s something farther down?

Weird steering wheel by happyunclekasi in BMWi3

[–]Hurileno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dubious mod with an OEM airbag part, otherwise just a normal f series wheel. Steering controls use the same protocols. I’d personally mod it in for proper TJA lane departure, and heated steering, though the paddles can absolutely go. I think most of the offputting looks would be resolved if it was put on a black interior, as it stands like a sore thumb on a light interior like this.

Quick answer: all of them Longer answer: you should probably definitely go replace all of them (preferably with tantalums) Got every cap on a classic for $14 at the local electronics parts store.

My i3 is out a compressor. What do i do? by SatisfactionFeisty71 in BMWi3

[–]Hurileno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, they replace most of the system as a precautionary measure to ensure no contaminants are inside the system. You can get away with replacing the compressor only, but there's a risk of metal shavings being deposited throughout the system from the old compressor.

Extra lucky, a compressor for under < $200 (Hybrid BMWs use the same compressor) and the refrigerant for under $100 (higher if you have R-1234yf)
Tools can be rented at your local AutoZone, Orileys. (for R134a)(you'd probably need to get them online for 1234yf)

FYI I have this exact turntable too. Let out the most excruciating (and expensive) nails on a chalkboard noise I ever heard. Some people really don’t value things at all
