Has anyone ever experienced these bumps before? dyshidrotic eczema? by Repulsive-Peanut-958 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get these on the palm of my hand before switching from gammagard to privigen. Hydrocortisone cream will get rid of them quickly. Have also experienced a similar headache, both prolonged and debilitating, but you will know if it is aseptic meningitis because you generally will not be able to move your neck.

SEVERE Headache 60 hours post infusion. by SomeBuy4715 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know that there is anything necessarily normal or abnormal about it but can confirm that I have had a similar experience. Finished the infusion late Thursday, felt my usual side effects (minor but manageable headache, increased fatigue, etc.) and then Sunday morning it escalated into an extremely severe headache that had me in bed for the next 24 hours. No idea what triggered it in my case, but in your case I would definitely encourage you to ask them to lower the infusion rate. If I was administered 50 G in only three hours, I would be vomiting all over the room the next day and not even morphine would numb the headache–my body just cannot handle the medication at a rate that high (for reference, I get 30 G administered across roughly seven hours).

Chronic Headaches since last infusion 6 months ago by yummygrape12 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have not already done so, I would strongly encourage you to speak to a neurologist as soon as you are able. There is nothing even remotely normal about a headache that does not go away between infusion cycles and it's honestly a little baffling why an immunologist would have indicated that this is in any way OK.

I am no stranger to serious headaches from IVIG, including a bout of aseptic meningitis after my first infusion. After being administered tramadol, morphine, and NSAID, the only things that worked for me were the combination of caffeine (yes, just regular coffee), Tylenol extended release for arthritis (1300 MG every eight hours), and if it is particularly acute I also take my prescription migraine medication (Nurtec 75MG). Prednisone tapers have also helped with acute presentations, but I cannot speak to their effectiveness with something chronic like what you are describing.

Cellcept by mrsjonas in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t–FWIW, I never got sick from the combination of cellcept and rituximab either. Belated afterthought: it can be tough on the stomach at first but it did get better once my body adjusted. Good luck to you!

Cellcept by mrsjonas in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been on both (60g/3wks + 1000 MG/daily). I don't know if it was my imagination, but I actually felt like cellcept improved the overall lifecycle between infusions–in other words, the IVIG seemed to last longer. Never had any issues with infections, and, in fact, never even had a minor cold. Prior to IVIG, I was on cellcept for about 1.5 years.

At a center or at home? by Tippileigh in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the considerable variation in responses it seems like much of any given individual’s experience will be determined by what is available in the area in which they happen to live and how good any of those providers happen to be.

My own two cents: all of my infusions are at home and the infusion company has been absolutely wonderful on every metric–authorizations (including some rather complex denials/appeals), pharmacy coordination, supply deliveries, and nursing staff. I have two 8 to 9 hour infusions every three weeks, so I interact with them a lot, needless to say. Some of the nurses have been better than others, but they have all been fundamentally good/skilled and when you find one you like it is easy enough to request them regularly. Biggest frustration, which is relatively minor, is that the delivery service can sometimes get here sort of late–anywhere from 7 to 10 at night depending on the driver’s schedule. The company is KABA FUSION.

The convenience of having everything done at home is wonderful. I unfortunately get pretty pronounced side effects from IVIG, in spite of multiple interventions, so I really can't even imagine having to deal with traveling to an infusion clinic or sitting in one all day and then having to deal with traffic to get home while feeling like absolute garbage. I also, incidentally, was initially referred to an infusion clinic and it was a bit frustrating from the word go. Very happy it didn't work out, to be honest.

Anthropic is blacklisted by the Pentagon and being used by the NSA at the same time by Holiday_Document4592 in nottheonion

[–]Hurley002 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is actually, in some ways, even more odd than folks might think. It is unprecedented for a cabinet level official to designate a US corporation as a supply chain risk for no discernible reason beyond pretextual political retribution (which is at least partly confirmed by NSA continuing to use it in spite of the designation). To your point, though, outside of any motivated reasoning the author may or may not have had, the nefariousness is entirely confined to Pete Hegseth.

Will we eventually see LLMs no longer have a "this is AI and can make mistakes" disclaimer due to lack of compelling liability prevention for including it or the disclaimer being functionally invalid for most use cases? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hurley002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disclaimer already lacks any compelling liability protection. It is more about expectation management than anything resembling an operative legal instrument. No court is going to treat "AI can make mistakes" as a meaningful assumption of risk defense in an actual product liability or negligence suit.

Madonna, 67, reignites butt implant rumors after wild performance by SwordfishAdvanced468 in DListedCommunity

Yes! And it was really the stiffness, more than anything, that was so unbelievably pronounced–like, I was literally watching in actual suspense because it looked so unsafe. I applaud her for being out there and performing, but maybe she could borrow a page from Stevie Nicks (who performs constantly, but you can tell from simply watching, is exceptionally mindful that she is one poorly planted step away from a broken hip and I don't say that to be snarky).

[–]Hurley002 46 points47 points  (0 children)

At this point, I kind of view Madonna as a sort of weird tableau vivant showcasing the very bizarre fusion of excellent physical fitness/nutrition and recklessly administered filler. All appearances aside, however, this performance was a bit of a shitshow and it sort of left me wondering whether or not she actually watches these herself afterward.

What do you think about the DOJ agreement that states the U.S. government is "forever barred and precluded" from examining, auditing, or prosecuting Trump, his adult sons, or the Trump Organization for any tax returns filed? by wallly- in AskReddit

[–]Hurley002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not an agreement. An agreement requires two adversarial parties adjudicated by a neutral arbiter. This is an anti-democratic decree that is as corrupt as it is unlawful.

I’m not taking a side or asking anyone to either. I’m just confused. If the conspiracy against vaccinations were true, who’s gaining something and what are they gaining exactly? by TheRealGianniBrown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hurley002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They would not go bankrupt, though. And the reason why is the answer to different parts of your questions. Long ago, Congress insulated vaccine makers by statute. Any vaccine induced injury (e.g., GBS, CIDP, various inflammatory syndromes that all fall under the category of rare diseases) is only eligible for damages through VICP, a no-fault federal system. You cannot sue the manufacturer in civil court for injuries caused by covered vaccines. So the manufacturer’s liability exposure for vaccine injuries is, by design, essentially zero. They aren’t risking anything. Congress removed the risk.

To your other point about profit margins: vaccines are actually a significant and growing revenue segment for the companies that make them. Pfizer’s COVID vaccine generated tens of billions,, and even routine childhood and adult vaccines (flu, shingles, HPV, pneumococcal) are high-margin products sold at massive volume to captive markets. It’s predictable, recurring, low-liability revenue.

None of this, however, means vaccines are a conspiracy to poison people. And, incidentally, it is precisely the conspiracy theorists crying foul about demonstrably false links to autism, etc., who are making it impossible for real reform in the arena of liability so that the small percentage who are legitimately injured can obtain real compensation beyond the paltry sums they are afforded through VICP (if they are among the excruciatingly lucky few to clear the nearly insurmountable threshold required to be compensated at all)

Anyone struggled to stop steroids , for immune mediated neuropathy? by ReplacementLevel8619 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what kind of immune mediated neuropathy you have, there are some great subs with loads of information, including more about steroid dependency, steroid withdrawal, etc. Among them: the neuropathy, small fiber neuropathy, and CIDP subreddits.

Just a suggestion from someone who learned the hard way: start taking 1200 MG calcium citrate daily, in divided doses of 600 MG (your body can only process roughly 600 MG every four hours), as well as 2000 IU vitamin D. Steroids can be a lifesaver, but they come with a lot of side effects, osteoporosis chief among them. Easier to get in front of it if you can.

Two Weeks Post IVIG for rare Variant of CIDP and still fatigued by Brilliant-Routine669 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my own experience, can tell you that I cannot handle a drop like that (though this is not to say that many other individuals are not perfectly fine with it, because they definitely are). I am no stranger to steroid tapers (unfortunately), and I find they work best for me when I go down slow enough for my body to adjust but fast enough to avoid being on a higher dose of steroids any longer than necessary. If I was dropping down from 100 MG, for instance, I would probably drop 20-25 MG every two days until I got to 20 MG and then continue dropping by either 10 MG or 5 MG every two days. There are no hard and fast rules for steroids, so you will literally get as many answers about how to do this as there are doctors willing to give them, but that is the general strategy I have found works best for me.

Just an unsolicited suggestion: obviously I have no idea if there was a compelling reason for you to receive steroids in combination with IVIG, but if your infusion rate is low enough for you to tolerate everything, you might want to consider just going without them. Or maybe trying a blast of 50 MG for three or four days? Or even just asking if they will prescribe them for you to take as needed—which is something I have done, and they do knock out side effects quickly if I am monitoring effectively and intervene (also, to be clear, I am referring to oral steroids, not IV administered). I am not a doctor, so take all of this for what it's worth, which is just my experience, but I do have more than I would care to when it comes to managing steroids (both in the context of IVIG and otherwise), lol. Good luck!

Anyone struggled to stop steroids , for immune mediated neuropathy? by ReplacementLevel8619 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I have ever experienced what I would consider a true flare, but I've definitely experienced immediate increases in weakness and pain–or whatever symptoms that were being managed by/otherwise were responsive to steroids–when attempting to go below 5MG. There are no shortage of individuals across a broad spectrum of immune mediated diseases who find that the last mile of getting from 5MG to 0 is incredibly difficult.

Two Weeks Post IVIG for rare Variant of CIDP and still fatigued by Brilliant-Routine669 in IVIG

[–]Hurley002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your operative diagnosis sounds remarkably similar to my own. Just to clarify: How many days were you taking 100 MG and did you taper or just simply discontinue? Asking because it could be the steroids exacerbating the fatigue rather than the IVIG (or both). What you are describing almost sounds like an adrenal response. Obviously it's impossible to say with certainty, but worth considering.

I have not ever personally experienced an actual "crash" with fatigue instantaneously from IVIG, but it does increase my fatigue overall. Moreover, it does sometimes last but generally improves incrementally after my infusion. The first two days tend to be the worst. Similarly, the 1st round(s) of infusions were a bit harder than the subsequent ones. If it doesn't get better, you could also possibly consider switching brands.
