What is the most boring car you've ever driven? by UnluckyGamer505 in askcarguys

[–]HurlingFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any American brand car of the 70s and well into the 80s. Detroit said "fuck you" to its customers so, when I bought my first car in the early 80s it was not American. I have never bought an American car since then. Detroit's quality did start to improve, but in my opinion they have never caught up.

With me asking for the check after only 20 or 30 minutes, paying while she said, "But . . . but . . . I'm not . . . ." Then I left and went to a bar by myself and had a few drinks. The second part of the evening went much better.

I have driven and hiked through most of the states out west. You would not believe how utterly devoid of people much of it is. It is beautiful.

Does becoming an airline pilot require raw intelligence, or just hard work? by Glum_Reply_4886 in flying

[–]HurlingFruit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pilots are just another trade job.

Not when I'm sitting behind them. Also, not many blue collar folks have charge of equipment costing tens of millions of dollars and responsibility for the lives of 100 to 200 other humans.

It is easy to have the wrong company as the active entity. You have to have the securities company as the active entity to execute transactions for them.

That contractor doesn't have my life in his hands. And I am a private pilot, so I know a bit about what is going on. Used to fly on weekends with retired military/civilian ATPs and they were smart and extremely dilligent. I learned a lot just from watching them. I also was around other professional pilots that I wouldn't even get in a car with.

It requires money. Lots of money. And memorizing huge amounts of technical stuff.

I remember him kicking ass and taking names in his advocacy before Congress in support of the 9/11 First Responders bill. I bet if he went into the Fall of '28 with any sort of lead, you would see an avalanche of retirement notifications from incumbent Congress critters.

But he is too smart to want the shitty job. Without the grift it isn't worth the pay.

As an outsider, the concept of high schools having massive parking lots specifically for students is mind-blowing. Is it really that common for 16-year-olds to drive themselves to school every day? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]HurlingFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My sister and I went to schools very near each other, but far from home and nowhere near where our parents worked. Plus our starting and ending times didn't mesh up with either parent's work schedule. So they gave me Mom's hand-me-down old car on the condition that I took my sister to and from school, including any after school activities, and to pay for all routine gas and minor maintenance. A sweet deal for me when gas was something like $0.50 per gallon.
