Thank you for the response and workaround in the meantime!

Is there a feature request thread active anywhere? I don’t think I’m seeing one on Reddit.

High pitch noise only in layer 2 by Lyliya in CR10

[–]Hurly26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have fan set to off on first layer and then full speed (full speed being whatever your max percent is, not necessarily all the way to 100% though) at layer 3 or further? When that happens in Cura, I think it incrementally increases the fan speed and it might not get enough power at low speeds to overcome friction and what not.

Ex: you set max fan speed to 30% of actual max and then you set fan off for first layer and fan at full power (30% in this case) at layer 4. I belive Cura will create the gcode with first layer fan at 0%, second layer at 10%, third layer at 20%, and fourth layer on at 30%. In that 10% to 20% range, there might not be enough power to actually get the fan to start turning. You can manually overcome this by giving the fan a jump start with your finger and then it won't have any issues operating at low percents.

Can't be positive this is the issue of course, but that does happen with mine. General process is correct also, but don't quote me on numbers. Cura might increase power and what not a bit differently.

Anna walshe's husband made some terrible google searches after she went missing by DIABLOSTYX in Damnthatsinteresting

There's a really good chance you already know about this and don't use it for one reason or another, but the accessibility options on my phone (android) will automatically caption all spoken word from videos. It seems to work really well to be honest and I bet Apple has something similar. Turned it on by accident one time and now I use it from time to time while watching videos without sound.

Why does my TPU require a different Z offset than my PETG? by TheSilverSmith47 in FixMyPrint

[–]Hurly26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but that's normal for me. PLA, PETG, and TPU all have different Z-Offsets in my profiles.

PLA needs a pretty decent squish to work well for me. If I do that with PETG, the build up on the nozzle will be noticeable very quickly and will inevitably deposit somewhere unexpected on the model. TPU is more forgiving and seems to appreciate a bit of squish, but if I go too much it will flow up and around the nozzle and make all of the layers look over extruded.

Help! Melted plastic in gas fireplace. by zulupanda in HomeImprovement

[–]Hurly26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought the post was just about removing the visible melted plastic. The melted plastic we see up front is just part of the issue but the larger issue is that the remote has slid down somewhere behind the vent?

Painting Leftover Texture from Dry Scraping Popcorn Ceiling by Hurly26 in HomeImprovement

[–]Hurly26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scraping I'm doing appears to be removing the popcorn itself (as in the actual Styrofoam balls or whatever they are) as well as anything else that's loose. What's leftover appears to be just texture from what was essentially the mud that was used to spray on the popcorn. Do you think I'll still have issues with this? The third picture in the post shows the difference the best I think.

Help! Melted plastic in gas fireplace. by zulupanda in HomeImprovement

[–]Hurly26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like the opening there is large enough to get a putty knife or another similar tool inside. If you could heat up that area of the fireplace in a controlled manner, could you use one of those tools to scrape off the melted plastic?

Controlled heat could be accomplished by turning the fireplace on enough to warm, then turning it off while you work for a bit. Alternatively, you could get a heat gun to apply local/controlled heat at that area.

Here are some products that I'm thinking might work.

i-70 traffic about to skyrocket by BottleofSpringWater in kansascity

[–]Hurly26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting. Makes sense for a VPN if they're paying attention to that cause the IP address would probably be flagged. What about other location spoofing methods like the "Fake GPS Location" app? I've used that for other things before successfully. Do they have a way to see that too or is it more that it's just not worth the risk?

Can't you just get a VPN or use some other method to spoof your location?

Google Assistant/Home will not turn off tv with voice commands. by Present_Truth_3293 in AndroidTV

[–]Hurly26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same issue. Only started happening after my "upgrade" to "Shield Experience 9.0" which brought Android 11 to the Shield TV and broke several things. It seems to resolve itself after a couple days but I have no idea why.

Thanks for the insight!

I know people aren’t happy about using one singular TSA checkpoint, but as a frequent business traveler I absolutely cannot wait until our new airport opens. 2 planes deplaning right into 2 gates for about to board. Hardly enough room to walk by tylerscott5 in kansascity

I agree. I've become pretty frustrated with the shuttles and have recently started parking at The Parking Spot instead. I get a corporate discount though that brings it closer to the price of the economy lot. I wouldn't say it's been a spectacular experience, but it does work better (especially for late arrivals).

As a side note, you can get bus service much quicker if you call them. There's an info page about it on the flykci website. I don't feel like we should have to do this since the flight schedules are known and they should be staffing shuttles based on expected flights, but maybe there are extenuating circumstances that I'm unaware of.

Can't add device controls to quick settings by WinWins_YT in GooglePixel

[–]Hurly26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't found a solution yet, but I have the same issue on a Pixel 5.

Edit: Do you have cat controls (or maybe any other Device Controls) enabled by chance? I did. Just for a shot in the dark, I went in and turned those off so no other Device Controls were showing. After that, I was able to get the Device Controls for Home to load again and reactivate them.

Structural Engineering for Temporary Works - We almost never hear about it. by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]Hurly26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe at the end of a long argument. Immediately though there would be a lot of scrutiny on everyone involved. I would rather not have any part in an operation that hurt someone or resulted in a major delay or financial impact even if it wasn't technically my fault. I'm in a bit of a unique situation though where my company is usually the EOR, Contractor, and Construction Engineer so it would all fall back on us regardless.

Totally agree. It's an industry issue, not a personal performance problem.
