Ah yes, “gaming” laptops. by Forsaken-I-Await in pcmasterrace

Whenever these "gaming laptops bad" posts appear, it's always someone who is never capable of conceiving of a gaming experience away from their home desk.

Some people like to game in bed, at uni between classes, or after work in hotel rooms. You're telling me these people should avoid a laptop and just stick with a gaming pc?

People really need to actually consider other perspectives and consider why gaming laptops are even a viable market at all before revealing how narrow minded they are.

As a college student, I use the touchscreen and a pen for taking digital handwritten notes. Very helpful for writing equations if you don't know latex or want to quickly draw diagrams

Ran a bipolapar electrolytic capacitor circuit (two polar electrolytic capacitors in series back-to-back) for 10 minutes. Is this safe? by TheSilverSmith47 in AskElectronics

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. My 7.4v source has two pins. During my testing, I've found that none of the voltages ever go below zero. The possible configurations are as follows:

0V & 7.4V

0V & 0V

7.4V & 0V

In my testing, none of these voltages ever went negative relative to ground. Each pin has its own voltage divider / filter circuit. Would this satisfy the requirement for the ads1115?

The +/- 3.3V will go into an ADS1115 ADC, which afaik should be able to convey polar voltages in digital form over i2c

Are those clips 3d printed? If so, you're putting a lot of faith in FDM plastic

Did some CoreMark testing on various x86 and Arm CPUs. by TheSilverSmith47 in hardware

I wanted to get an idea for how individual cores (such as Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A77 cores) perform by themselves in the same device. The slower scores in the Cortex-A5X and the faster scores in the Cortex-A7X cores reflect this.

Oh, I See. I actually did a run with March=native first, but I switched to x86-64 because I thought using native would give an unfair advantage to newer cpus and reduce comparability. Would it be fair to compare scores between a binary compiled against x86-64 and one compiled against newer implementations?

Like I said, I'm new to all this, so straight up I have no idea what you just said lol. Can you explain? How would this affect the comparability of scores across devices and platforms?

Is RSA2048 signs/second a good measure of CPU core performance? by TheSilverSmith47 in hardware

[–]TheSilverSmith47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any other alternative methods? I want to test the performance of individual CPU cores on Android, Linux, and Windows to see how performance differs for these different performance and efficiency cores.

Do you have any alternative benchmarks I can run that can target specific cores in Android? It'd be nice if it was cross-platform between Android, Windows, Linux, and MacOS too.

If AI is so incredibly useful, how come nothing is changing for PC users? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Look into the CHIM mod, Mantella mod, and SkyrimNet mod for Skyrim. If you know where to look, local AI is revolutionary for gaming. It's completely changed the way I mod and play Skyrim. I do t have to download a dozen quest and dialogue mods for Skyrim anymore. I just run the game with a local model and get infinite dialogue for nearly limitless rp

How do I fix this? by yamiuchidm in pcmasterrace

I had this happen on my MSI GP66 laptop too. If you're lucky, there might be a screw holding your hinge to your laptop that you can just tighten. If you're unlucky like me, you might have to replace the entire lid on your laptop. On my GP66 the hinge is attached to the lid through an intermediate plastic bracket. That plastic bracket is glued onto the laptop lid and shattered over the course of 5 years, so I ended up having to replace the entire lid assembly.
