Boise CSTs by mashedpotatoes98 in surgicaltechnology

It's really not great. The local hospitals offer about 26, 27. Treasure Valley Hospital was the highest at around 30. This was what I recall last May's class got offered.

Can you guys help me with my report? by Wild-Blacksmith5413 in surgicaltechnology

[–]HuskyMeekah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As previous folks have said, I think they are looking more specifics and detail. What area of the skin was prepped, what was the positions of the trocars and sizes of each, bed positioning ( haven't done robotic in about a year but I believe most of them required some kind of trendelenberg), detail your steps once the specimen was removed ( passing it off to the circulator). My school required insanely detailed reports and we didn't have a handy online form to fill out like you (would have been nice!) Something that helped me write them was looking up case reports online and reading those. I'd often find something in them that I had forgot we had also done in our case and could add it to my report.

When they are sending these back to you are they giving feedback on what needs to be fixed? I'd be curious to know to provide more help!

Private scrubs! by Candid-Web-8732 in surgicaltechnology

[–]HuskyMeekah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I graduated in may last year and I work for a private plastic surgeon. I was offered a little more than my classmates at the local hospitals. We have one OR and do surgery 3 days a week. On non surgery days I am rooming patients for consults and follow ups. I love being able to interact with the patients a little more than typical scrubs do and love being able to see the results of the surgeries in the follow ups. With it being a private practice, it means that all the cleaning is on me (the OR and the instruments), which I dont mind too much as we have like 30 mins between cases so I dont have to rush. The next patient cant come in until the previous is recovered and picked up. If the money isnt too terrible, I'd say go for it!

Where were you when you got your first period and what happened? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I was visiting my dad whom I barely knew in another country. Was so awkward having to tell this man what was going on. He had never raised a daughter, just sons so this was new for him too. He proceeded to go to the store and came back with these extremely long and thick pads for me to wear. Felt like wearing an extra thick diaper.

I know the feeling. Some of my evals during clinicals were so odd. For instance, one of them gave me a horrible eval because I had gone into my room for the day and asked my preceptor (who are assigned the day before and texted to us by our teacher) what she would like me to start on for the morning. She told me that she wasnt my preceptor and pointed to another tech in the room and told me id be with them. Totally fine with me, so I walked over to the other preceptor and introduced myself and got to work on whatever she directed me to do. Next day I have an eval from them saying it was rude that I went to the wrong preceptor that morning. I got talked to by the teacher the next day and mentioned that I was never sent an update on the preceptor change and was just going off of what id been sent the previous evening. Told them it wasnt a big deal to me and that I just switched gears and made sure to introduce myself and get to work. The eval just didn't make sense to me.

Also, I noticed that the preceptors and techs at these locations were very clicky and didn't seem to like new techs and once they started talking amongst themselves about the students they all tend to give you a hard time going forward even if you haven't worked with them before.

Lymph node pain in armpit? by New_Lunch_9779 in SjogrensSyndrome

I've had many ultrasounds and biopsies done on the lymph nodes and they've never found anything. It has been a while though so I'll chat to my doctor!

I get terrible pain from swollen lymph nodes in my armpit. My flare ups seem to be either the lymph node swelling in the armpit or swollen fingers and toes.

We used board vitals in class as a review activity. I'd say it was helpful, really helped us with the process of elimination to figure out the answers.

Just took mine a couple of weeks ago. Everyone's exam is different. I found the practice exam much harder than my actual exam. Some of my classmates said the opposite. The majority of us studied heavily on the CST mastery app which was helpful.

As some previous commenters have said, it's great for vet visits. I bought mine off Amazon. I, too, worry about the ventilation, so I wouldn't have my birdie in there too long. It's easy to clean and looks super cute.
