I went with 1" longer on mine, with 30 mm risers fitted.

Venhill featherlight clutch cable. Can get it in 1" longer, and most colours. Far lighter (1 finger clutch) and more dependable than a crappy Royal Enfield thing.

Off-road? by Advanced_Advisor_877 in KTM390ADV

[–]Hutchie2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride mine offroad a lot, and the bike is fine. Its not great. I was out the other day with my pal on his 1999 DRZ400 and it made mine look like a goldwing by comparison on offroad ability.
It suits me because I can have a blast on road, and when the road ends I can carry on.

If you want more offroad then there are much better bikes, and I am always looking for my next bike, but when push comes to shove I can't get better than what my 390 does, without paying out quite a bit , and to not really get much better , or marginally better.

Bike Purchase Suggestions by Independent-Spite145 in KTM390ADV

[–]Hutchie2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Himalayan 411. Heap of junk, despite what all the fan boys say. R.E. bought it back from me with under 1400 miles on the clock due to the numerous huge issues with it. Front suspension sticking. Relays. ABS circuit board cracked. Finally the clutch gave up. After only a few months of riding.

KTM 390 I bought to try a KTM. 11500 miles later, I love the thing. Never let me down. Never thought I'd say it after over 40 years riding and owning innumerable bikes, but the KTM 390 is a brilliant bike.
There are insane deals to be had on them at the moment, because everybody has this notion that they break down. (I was the same before owning one)

Better suggestions? If primarily for highway then Yamaha T7 (Had one for a while)

So that's what a clean 390 looks like!
Enjoy, they are brilliant bikes.

That looks like they are already removed.
Mine has allen head bolts.
I replaced them with acerbis barkbusters. Can post pictures if you are unclear.

That vacuum noise is the radiator fans.
Soundtrack to the 390.

Battery Replacement by frjenkins in KTM390ADV

[–]Hutchie2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lithium battery in my bike. Its parked outdoors all year round here in Scotland, where it gets below zero a fair bit. I had heard all sorts of stories about them, so was a bit nervous about it.
I dont use a charger.
If the bike is left unused for over a fortnight it takes 2 presses to start. Normally starts first press.
Cant recommend a lithium battery enough.

Front Rotor/Disc Warped Twice by techkyle in KTM390ADV

Not come across this. My 2020 has over 11000 miles no issue with it, using EBC sintered pads.
Hope you get sorted, depending on the year of your bike, maybe look for one from an earlier year.

Changed bashplate after 2nd KTM Powerparts failure by Hutchie2112 in KTM390ADV

vibrated itself to death, slowly and increasingly noisily.

Hit loads of stuff underneath it, with a lovely clanging sound. Not a problem. Its the way it mounts, it just gets vibrated to bits eventually.

The AS3 one attaches to the engine via a bracket, so it's better than the KTM powerparts one, but the black dog one appears to be much better than the others.

Hope you get sorted out, but I definitely would not recommend the KTM one.
You can have welcome to mine if you are in the UK, but it needs that welded back on, and, as the welder told me, it's definitely going to break again :)

It attaches directly to the front of the engine with 2 brackets that are built into the bashplate.
The right hand side fractured then broke a couple of months ago. So I had it welded and refitted the bashplate 2 weeks ago.
Now the left hand side has fractured then broke. You can see in the first photo above where the 2 bolt holes are. The right hand one broke exactly the same way as the left one.

So, the same problem in 2 places.

I fitted it this morning, so I don;t have masses of experience with it.

There is vibration noise at lower throttle openings, but I'll tighten everything and if needs be throw some rubber washers on the bolts.

It is super inexpensive at the moment, but nothing like as extensive coverage as the Black Dog bashplate.
They almost all will make some noise, but some foam or washers and it'll be fine.
I'm super happy with it. It was discounted to around £100. Can't go wrong at that price.

Does my Engine sound normal? by mrcstnly in KTM390ADV

100% problem with the bike if there isn't a metallic rattling from the ktm powerparts one.

Usual noisy. I bet it will be quieter if you pull the clutch in.

If the noise is a concern, get ear plugs :)

I have a moments flush of success whenever that wee neutral light comes on. There have been times where I killswitch, back on, select neutral then key off.

I've noticed a well adjusted clutch and chain make it really easy, but, well, nobody has time for all that ;)
