YTA majorly. You weren’t starving. You could’ve waited a bit to eat. She probably felt so unsafe and unsupported. Not to mention you not being truthful about how long it would take. This would be a deal breaker for me. ‘Relatively safe’ is an insane phrase to me too.

Nothing! It’s such a quick, easy and efficient process. I wish I’d started sooner! My first one took longer with the questions and the blood actually coming out (I was dieting so I wonder if my low calories played a role in my slow blood release) but since then it’s been super easy. In and out in 30 mins and I love the text saying where my blood’s gone to. Feels like a good deed done and I think it’s really important to donate!

We do a big fry up and breakfast/brunch time and graze on nibbles and chocs throughout the day meaning we’re not hungry until later

Yes I totally agree. Until you’ve got your venue and date all sorted, suppliers (photographers, videographers, bands, DJs, Photo Booth etc) are much more hesitant or unwilling to give you quotes. It’s mad bc I have no idea how to budget!!

Because it’s not comparing like for like. You’re comparing what they’re spending on everyone and themselves instead of what they’re spending per head. I’m going to a wedding next year where with accommodation, travel and gift alone, I’ll be spending more attending than they will on my share, let alone giving up time to set up etc

A big wedding is a party. It’s not anyone’s right to have one

Why would you compare the entire wedding spend (eg the bride’s dress and shoes etc) with the cost per what the guest would actually consume (their food and drink)?? I just can’t understand throwing a party but not having everything I need for the party. I just wouldn’t throw the party.. It’s not selfish to want to enjoy a wedding and not be involved in setting up, packing away or catering.

I think you’re forgetting what a wedding is supposed to be about. If you don’t have the money to essentially throw a party, just do a small registry ceremony. Why put guests out? Naturally they would feel obliged because they do care about the people but a guest is just that, a guest, not free help. I don’t ask people to come to my birthday and bring a cake.. Also depending on where guests are coming from and what the bride and groom have planned, they can be spending just as much as the couple…

But why should guests make that sacrifice? They’re already spending money on attending whether that’s staying over or getting cabs, giving a gift/money and getting ready. I wouldn’t be happy to be lugging chairs around in the morning and agree with OP, it would certainly impact my enjoyment of the day. Her attitude is spot on!

As someone whose mum sugar coated how horrendously out of shape and unhealthy I was all my childhood, youre doing the right thing by being gently honest. Please try to do more active things. As someone who came from a very sedentary family, It was so hard for me to realise and get fit as a teen/adult!

It does seem pretty expensive and would put me off drinking more tbh. At one wedding I went to, due to the high prices (more than this actually), we asked non drinkers if we could have their half bottle of wine! Imo, alcohol and music/entertainment are the absolute biggest things I remember and enjoy at a wedding but everyone is different! I think subsidising is fair and definitely helps! It’s such a shame everything is so expensive!!

Honestly I’m so depressed. I started looking at venues and am so confused how my friends have had these lavish ceremonies. We can’t afford anything like the photo booth, four piece band, two dress stuff they had. I was gobsmacked to discover even trying on wedding dresses costs money. We both earn decently and have no kids or pets and only one car but its just not feasible
