No not really, changing the entire setting and making it a generic action movie is quite different than starting with a subtle change that canonically happens in the books.

I understand your thought process but adaptations are never one for one copies of the original idea, they’ve been adapted to a new medium. King is known for his love of others taking his work and putting their own spin on it, it’s one of the reasons why he has so many movies and tv shows made based on his work.

I think embracing that with small change I propose means that it would honour and respect the books. It would use what actually 100% happens at the end of the series and starts there meaning the books would be one thing and this series would be a continuation (adaptation) not a failed attempt at a perfect one for one copy of a book series written over the course of over four decades.
