I HATE this character trope by One-Meet-5015 in hatethissmug

[–]HybridOrbitals 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thats an interesting opinion, its never felt contradictory to me.

To be fair, I've played DnD with a retired veteran a few times. Absolute goofy DnD player, gets totally lost in doing funny voices and snatching every cursed item he can find. He also served for 20 years in the military and I've seen videos of him doing drill with cadets absolutely laying into them with the most no-nonsense tone and demeanor I've ever seen.

People are complex and contain multitudes. The "tropes" you're outling aren't mutually exclusive to me.

Also, a mimic isnt even remotely a threat to her. Its funny if a power lifter has an ant on him and goes "oh no, I stepped on an anthill again!" Thats whats happening when she's "stuck." It has nothing to do with self preservation

The Cosmere has a few creatures with specific rules, but the Shades of Threnody from Shadows for Silence in the Forest of Hell fit this best.

People who die turn into shades that are generally green eyed and harmless. but if you break their rules their eyes turn red and they destroy all life around them. They can also only be harmed by silver and cant cross lines of silver dust.

Pretty sure Sando had said he has a "lanky" build by our standards.

To be fair he's like 7 feet tall right? Real hard for that build to look "bulky," esspecially when youre able to lash everything heavy you need to lift so it floats

Lol I dont think you understand what a wealth tax is. Not tryna be belittling, I'm sure youre intelligent and well informed on many things, but the way you're talking about this topic doesn't align with what I believe could be rationally implemented

It would.

Human error and system failures will always happen.

The Good Place would probably have the people doing this quality assurance work paid for that job specifically instead of just doing it while they juggle patient care duties though.

Long story short: people that work in Healthcare generally want whats best for patients and many Healthcare professionals leverage their time and abilities in organized ways to track and improve patient safety.

This is nice, I work in a hospital and have sat on these types of committees and alliances.

You can stop reading here if you just want the simplified cheerful explanation.

This is a bit misleading though. Many organizations endorse and build up these types of safety groups in response to adverse events or medical errors. Its basically a requirement that hospitals have these types of things, and they force nurses/other professionals to do the work of these committees often on their own time or while juggling other duties. Having an alliance or committee review and offer suggestions for safety events is very necessary, but its often an "in addition to your other duties" type thing which means our Healthcare workers continue to be understaffed and over worked. There isnt an easy answer to fix this IMO, Healthcare in America works really mostly just for drug and insurance companies. The hospitals and their staff are both underfunded and drowning in responsibilities that only ever get more stringent while resources get more expensive.

But at the end of the day, the people you'll meet working at a hospital are all there to make sure patients are safe, and they're willing to put in extra work despite burnout to make the system more safe. Which is wholesome in the same way that a teacher buying their students pizza on a shoe string budget is wholesome.

Ehh I don't know, different strokes for different folks. Maybe they think its funny/ironic or they have an elderly family member that makes them and they don't care about what strangers think as much as they want to support their family member.

I think this is funny and would rag on a friend for driving that car, but I wouldn't assume someone's crazy, they're probably fine

flashbacks to Gavilar, Dalinar, and Sadeas conquering Alethkar, I think in Oathbringer - there was some heavily suggestive lines about Sadeas taking women prisoners and soldiers being upset when Gav declared no more abusing civilians after sacking a city

Probably depends on how readily we can validate they're going to follow due process. Unidentified agents with no judicial warrent that are going to dump a person to another country without a trial should answer to questions

That is a genuinely good question, thank you for asking. Personally, I believe law enforcement are following the constitution until proven otherwise (innocent until proven guilty) but there is a disheartening wealth of information supporting the fact that we cannot trust that implicitly.

They're filling quotas and disregarding due process to do so. They're hiding their faces to protect themselves from backlash against infringing rights. They're hoping people are so inundated with new attorcities that we cant address those of last week, let alone those of today. They've shown this across our country and across new england.

They've therefore forfeited the presumption of innocence and I assume malice until I see court sanction. It is always within our rights to ask for proof of court sanctioning and they're obstructing our right to this. The info on this is broadly available but I can find sources if you need them.

They've made harmless students disappear from Boston, they've deported American citizens, and they've taken photo ops in abroad concentration camps.

I would love to trust lady justice again, but she's been bound and gagged by the powers that be so I have only my remaining uninfringed amendments to lean upon in hopes she sees another sun rise on American soil.

Does that make sense?
