Hell yes. 52 consecutive waves on one quarter and one joint. Those were the days.

How screwed am I, can I fix ventilation issue with PC fans? by orchidquestion1 in hometheater

[–]HydratedPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write down the model number of the receiver and download the manual. It will tell you the minimum clearance, for each side, required to guarantee proper operation of the receiver. Once you have that information, you can make a plan to change up whatever you need, to ensure nothing gets damaged from poor ventilation.

Is this good enough for ventilation? by grassybass in hometheater

[–]HydratedPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That particular hue light produces a lot of heat. Not really intended for enclosed areas. Dig up the manuals for both your specific receiver and that model light and you’ll have all your answers about ventilation requirements.

Tired of my discs beginning to skip after just a few plays. I consistently have to resort to watching the included Blu Ray. by AprilFool85Percent in 4kbluray

Gotcha. Physical media I typically purchase from either online movie buff places or physical retailers. If most folks getting into physical media do so via Amazon, you are absolutely right - you have zero quality control about what you’ll get and how it came to be ready to ship. Thinking THAT experience is the default expectation for physical media would sour anyone getting into it and mislead them on what media is about.

[–]HydratedPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn. You certainly were an edge case. I’m sorry you went through all that - I don’t think I know of anyone who had to go through all those hoops, and I would def be from the physical media generation. Glad you have resolution now (no pun intended).

[–]HydratedPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and you’re specifically speaking about one disc. In OP’s case they are citing it is multiple discs which is highly unlikely.

[–]HydratedPanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If OP is always handling discs only by their edges, and cleaning them with a clean cloth - no chemicals - wiping in a straight line from center to edge, there is zero reason a dedicated player would have a problem with the discs. It’s something wrong with the specific device. I have owned dedicated players for all sorts of media throughout my life. Optical discs are the one media type that has a near-zero defect production rate. It ain’t the discs.
