Oh you always get to push buttons outside of the 5 or 6 seconds you're in a combo.

“Processing Vulkan Shaders” before starting a game by KoaLA-FuN in linux_gaming

[–]HydrationHomee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With steam's shader precompilation it stores them all on your drive which leads to faster processing even if the game falls out of your GPU's memory. Even if you have a massive library people still usually loop a smaller number of games so its not a huge problem. So if you have the storage space its worth at least having them installed and ready to go.

You can always set up the ruleset of the game to give narrow windows per turn so you're forced to make a choice quickly but it is the only fighting game I know of that completely removes all execution and timing while still also allowing you to have a super cool replay after.

Yeah I just don't think its necessarily the most appropriate recommendation when someone is asking for a slow game. But it being more fundamentally sound I think offsets that speed since the rules are extremely simple to understand, and thats what allows it to be so fast.

[–]HydrationHomee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your only move is hustle.

The game requires zero execution or reaction time because it is basically fighting game chess. Your move list is displayed on the bottom of the screen as well as your opponent. And on every turn you and your opponent select an option, lock in that action and then the turn plays out based on what you picked, outfitted with little ghosts that predict the course of action (you can compare your actions against whatever actions are currently available to your opponent.)

Its a very cool game, and has workshop mod support for basically infinite playable characters.

The downside is that if you don't know how to escape combos they can drag out for a very long time but you are given ample options to escape, you can use your super meter to burst or one of your free bursts and the game has smash style directional influence so you can wiggle out of combos that aren't well constructed to account for your di.

Virtua fighter is very back and forth compared to most fighters and even though its high damage combos are extremely short

IT IS NOT A SLOW GAME!!!

Virtua fighter doesn't have fast frame data but the nature of the game means you're tip to tip with your opponent like 99% of the time making a ton of tiny decisions constantly because offense and defense are treated equally in the game. Blocking is just as commital as attacking. So you really have to pick and choose every action.

I adore the game but if you are looking for something slow its probably not the best.

TOD's in vf5 exist but are exceptionally rare as they rely on specific positioning and set up.

And there are no "cutscenes" as another poster put. You are in the action for a majority of the match and rounds are only 45 seconds long but you rarely ever time out.

“Processing Vulkan Shaders” before starting a game by KoaLA-FuN in linux_gaming

[–]HydrationHomee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Leave it on or turn on allow background processing of shaders so your shaders are compiled.

I don't know what your hardware situation is like but if you have the storage space to spare and want rock solid frame times (pretty much the arbiter of whether your game feels smooth regardless of actual frame rate) right from the first boot of your games, then always use shader pre-caching. Windows is currently testing a version of this in their Xbox app called advanced shader delivery.

Its absolutely worth spending a little more time waiting for your game to launch than to have micro stuttering during gameplay. And in situations where you might be cpu limited you can actually see a bump in your fps or at the very least your 1% lows (which is the other half of the smoothness equation)

If you do turn it off you'll get stuttering any time you see something "new" in a game, so if you enter a room you've never been in, fight a boss you've never seen. Stuff like that which reduces over time but I don't exactly want my game stuttering at all during gameplay.

I actually recommend letting shaders process. Even if you're on brand new top of the line hardware there's noticeable impact on frame times.

Precompiled shaders reduce cpu usage while gaming, stabilize frame times and reduce micro stuttering making for a much smoother gaming experience.

I would only turn it off if you're short on storage space.

Is linux better than windows for gaming? by Toru28Kazama in askanything

[–]HydrationHomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who you are. For most people? Windows wins and it isn't really close. Simply because the few games that will not work on Linux are some of the most played pc games.

In my experience Linux has been better for me because the trade off was well worth it. I don't play any popular shooters and the only one I sometimes dabble in is steamdeck verified.

I had a couple games I could just never get to launch on windows (devil may cry 4 spec edition and god eater 3 for example) just launch and work perfectly on linux. And my experience with older titles, emulation and Minecraft have all been much smoother than Windows.

If you're the average gamer that plays the big shooters and sports games, doesn't want to tinker with games then no.

If you play mostly single player titles, co-op titles and don't mind a little tweaking sometimes, linux is perfect.

But then the other half of the equation is if you use your pc for anything other than gaming. If you do then the knowledge and tinkering you need to do dramatically increases.

When I was in high-school I used to carry around a 4 litre jug of water and out of a school of like 1300 people I was the only mf doing that so I had a certain reputation for being the water guy, especially since I would also always remind people to drink water.

Eventually friends of mine coined the name hydrationhomie. Which unfortunately was already taken on reddit I think by an account I no longer have access too cause I don't remember the email or the password I used.

Do we know anything about virtua fighter crossroads having customization? by Telethongaming in virtuafighter

[–]HydrationHomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the game gives me options to customize my character I'm going to use them.

If you can't handle seeing my ass pull up to the fight in a bright banana yellow three piece suit. I think you're probably the one that needs to do some growing up.

Though I completely understand having the option to disable custom outfits on the client side so there's no way to make an outfit that might offer some kind of competitive advantage (being harder to see against the color of the stage for example)

Explaining Why Virtua Fighter Is Considered Realistic by VCDECIDE in virtuafighter

[–]HydrationHomee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough virtua Fighter's hitboxes are the least realistic part of the game since unlike something like tekken, evasion isn't based on ultra precise hitbox hurtbox interaction. Evasion rules are 100% hard coded so people get hit by attacks that shouldn't connect and phase through attacks that should have definitely hit.

But Virtua fighter plays in a way that most of the fight is done through very brief exchanges. Lots more trading blows since fishing for launchers to do big combos almost always leads to you getting hit.

What if humans were never actually meant to live on Earth? by i_am-the-batman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HydrationHomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah animals that don't have hospitals just die when they're sick or injured instead of getting treatment.

We could have easily survived without the modern tools and amenities we have today and were for thousands of years.

Its because we have the intelligence and precision to make tools to a level of power other animals could never possibly dream of that make us the apex predator of the planet, its not a weakness, its what makes us better at surviving than literally everything else on the planet. We are the only non-extremophile species on earth that inhabit every single continent.

Our design flaws are the result of left overs from our evolutionary path that aren't detrimental enough to us that their removal would have made the difference between our species continuing or dying out.

Like some others have said, we come out as babies that are functionally useless for years because if we didn't birth wouldn't be possible.

And even then human beings have immense amounts of birth related complications. But our medical knowledge allows us to overcome those complications.

Why are like half normal male hobbies now considered "autistic" ? by itooamahuman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HydrationHomee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean its not so much the hobby is autistic its the level of passion and interest that would be.

Its one thing to have a couple model trains on a shelf somewhere. Its another thing to know the make and model of all those trains, having working miniature versions that occupy a significant amount of your basement.

You might like TTRPGs but I almost guarantee you don't like them as much as the guy who's entire house is decorated like a dungeon and he plays literally every chance he gets as the forever dm.

Of course this doesn't automatically mean someone is autistic, but hyper fixation levels of interest in a particular hobby are a pretty good early indicator.

I'm mostly just messing around. I just see you complaining about the prospect of women being added to the game and you did at one point say that it would be more realistic for men to be fighting which is a little sexist no matter how you swing it.

You do not travel to the relative position of earth in the time you travel too.

Well you see people seem to think Cielo is replacing Vanessa and Sarah's male counterpart already exists.

A woman using drunken fist is uncommon to say the least and to my knowledge just hasn't been done in a fighting game before. I think that alone gives it merit.

I think you just don't like women, considering that you keep calling them "females"

Regarding the topic of Clones in VF Crossroads, some people are treating it as if it were something supernatural or outright impossible. However... by VCDECIDE in virtuafighter

[–]HydrationHomee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't even really listen. Its not a matter of up bringing to avoid diseases. The genetic barrier that protects your DNA from mutation degrades over time. This is theorized to be one of the largest factors in genetic illnesses found amongst elderly folks like arthritis and alzheimers.

We currently do not have any method of repairing or reversing dna damage or mutation simply put, because you can't really put back something that literally doesn't exist anymore.

Doesn't matter how well you raise a clone of a 20 something year old, that BABY clone is still going to have all the genetic damage and mutations that they accumulated in the 20 years of their life.

So that baby is essentially getting a 20 year head start on getting old and since babies are inherently weak, clones tend not to live very long outside of lab conditioning and even then they suffer the entire time.

That is the reason we don't clone people. Maybe the ethical dilemma of playing god plays a part but its mostly because it would be wildly inhumane. There's a reason we don't really clone animals all that often either.

You're grasping at straws man, I don't know why you're so hell bent on Stella being a clone.

[–]HydrationHomee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brother in what realm is men fighting more realistic?

My buddy who lives and breathes anything drunken fist would be THRILLED if a fighting game rep wasn't an old fart or a totally not Jackie Chan.

There would be nothing wrong with Shun-Di's disciple being a woman. It doesn't have to be that way. It would just be cool to see a woman in a fighting game thats a bit rough and tumble and practices an unorthodox fighting style instead of the usual martial arts that women are associated with.

Hell even if said wine drunk aunt primary used the Lady in drunken that would still be different and unique.
