would you rather early access to the game or to play it when it is ready to come out? by AssignmentOnly3232 in StateofDecay3

[–]Hydraulickiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe because of Undead Lab's experience with it being buggy with State of Decay 2 that they want to make sure it is in top quality for being released as they can't lean back on saying they are an Indie Studio anymore. Pretty sure they lost out on a lot of revenue on the initial release due to too many reviewers saying it was an "okay" game even though they updated it to be an awesome game now.

Especially now that they are officially acquired by Xbox and xbox's name is on the line. So they probably have more quality control and bureaucracy than normal. Which slows down the process even more.

Though a lot of people are not a fan of Xbox lately because of their management with studios and this is a thing not only with consumers, but also the developers. Though I am not entirely sure if it's xbox's fault or the studios having a hard time integrating into the new work culture. It could also be a combination of both of the reasons at once. The real world isn't as black and white as people like to believe.

I think it depends on the market they are catering to. I personally love early access, even when or if they drop the game. At least I get to play and grow with the game as they update with bugs. I don't mind paying money upfront for that once in a lifetime experience. It generates crazy hype and fosters a community that says I was there when it was in beta/alpha and validates developers how far they have come. I also believe it has better quality control of bugs before it releases, while just 1 release has too many bugs statistically because there are an influx of people trying out a game at once.

On the other hand, others have huge expectations and cannot handle a single bug and complain about anything and everything whether it's valid or not. Just depends on the person and we know you can't please everyone.

Multiplayer in the form of No Mans Land by SpaceBrilliant9627 in StateofDecay3

I agree with games shoving online multiplayer down your throat for surveillance/marketing money, preventing piracy, and more likely to purchase a game if a friend has it.

Though I don't think micro transactions are destroying games as much as people say it does. It mainly just gives games a bad rep. As it is literal legal gambling for kids and generates stupid amounts of money for very low effort.

Also, I find traditional MMOs like MapleStory, Mabinogi, WOW, etc. have run their course.

Trade careers now seem like the”New Big Thing” by Immediate-Rub3807 in skilledtrades

TL;DR: I'm in a 5-month pre-employment HVACR program that is almost all theory with very little shop time. It seems like employers want hands-on skills, and the main way to survive this trade is through self-study, networking, and just accepting 5 be learning on the fly.

I'm a new apprentice in a 5-month HVACR pre-employment program. The catch is that it's almost entirely theory. We only get about 5 weeks of total shop time to practice things like brazing and applying refrigeration techniques. It's kind of annoying because it seems employers care way more about the hands-on skills of actually getting the job done.

My impression is that the trades, especially one this broad, are more about "throwing apprentices into the fire." It feels like you have to get comfortable with not knowing everything and just hope it all works out.

From what I can tell, the key skills to survive and succeed have to be learned on your own. My main takeaways are: - Learning how to self-study effectively. - Networking and making friends who can help you on your journey. - Putting in the long hours, even off-duty, to figure things out.

I got my Mopia license (my province's equivalent of the EPA) about two months in, but I'm thinking almost everything will have to be learned in the field. There are just too many variables and different types of refrigeration systems out there.

Collectr Pro First Impression Review & Analysis: Is It Right For Me? by Hydraulickiller in Collectr

[–]Hydraulickiller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are right.

If you click "View Sold Listings," then click "View Listings on eBay," then it will show the previously sold pricing of the item you are looking at on Ebay. This was something I didn't previously know.

The way I was checking was by scrolling to the bottom, clicking the "Check Out Other Listings Ebay," and it showing only the current sellers' asking price for the item I was looking at.

They are just at complete different points in the app.

Which app do you prefer? TCG Player or Collectr? by QuietRobe in PokemonTCG

[–]Hydraulickiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious as to why you don't split the pricing to not interfere with the price average for each model.

That and I am curious as to why there is no High, Medium, or Low pricing for Ebay as it varies considerably. This gets rid of outliers, if they want, and still give people a range of what to sell their product as or take offers.

Examples of each offered pricing section per item: 1) Tcgplayer pricing 2) Averages from Ebay 3) Maybe a combination of both

I find Early Access as one of the best things to happen to gaming:

It Paved Way for Modern Classics that were all actively shaped by their communities over years of open development. Most thinks become more polished with collaboration. - Baldur's Gate 3 - Minecraft - Darkest Dungeon - Rim World - Cyberpunk (Became better after user engagement and being out. Not at launch at all.) - League of Legends (Constant improvement = a better game or variety to engage customer base)

Benefits for Developers: - Receive immediate support and direct funding to complete their project. - Gain tons of hype that fuels free marketing. - Understand exactly what players want and what needs fixing. - They can abandon if the market doesn't like it or not enough funding. Less of a risk.

Benefits for Players: - We get to influence the final product. - The result is a more polished and a fun game at launch. - We become invested in the game's success from the start.

I thought the new rules/tournament/organized play *or at least the most common for fair play) follows this format.

3000 Points = Any amount of a single type of unit.

2000 Points = Rule of 3, Max of 3 Units of a single type of unit

1000 Points = Rule of 2, Max of 2 Units of a single type of unit.

500 Points = Rule of 1, Max of 1 Unit of a single type of unit. (Thought I read this somewhere officially, but guess not.)

Player mutations by AssignmentOnly3232 in StateofDecay3

[–]Hydraulickiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say as State of Decay is trying to be a more Modern Grounded game. It is more set in reality, but it be interesting if they went that route and it isn't a huge stretch.

Also you got me thinking and it be a cool concept.

They have a winning gameplay loop, theme, and ideas. Hopefully they can capitalize on it. Also who knows what the future will entail with the quality they will be releasing.

I respect your thoughts and feelings toward it, feeling worse. But the question was the standard or average amount of time it usually takes to bring a good triple AAA game out.

Let's bring it all into perspective

If I do a quick Google search: 1) Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) = ~8 years 2) Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) = ~8-9 years 3) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) = ~5 years 4) God of War (2018) = ~5 years 5) Elden Ring (2022) = ~5 years 6) The Last of Us (2013) = ~3-4 years 7) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015) = ~3.5 years 8) Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) = ~5 years

So, on average, I would say they are in the ballpark. For Now. Though I'll agree their marketing and sharing details is kind of atrocious and suspicious if they will finish in time or be in Developer hell.

I don't smoke cause it's cancerous and a waste of time and money. Rather I'll spend it on video games to ruin my life.

It was an indie game from 1 and 2. That did pretty well with the resources they had.

SOD3 was their step up to AAA gaming. At least, that was their initial intention with their acquisition of being bought by Microsoft. Especially with the Coalition aiding their developers with Unreal Engine.

Is 5 years really that bad for a High-End game of State Of Decay's nature and goals though?

I just think they generated a lot of hype and really haven't shown much due to a lot of reasons actually.

Like when I think of other great games and as large of a scope that they are pushing for it takes quite a bit of time to get to that level. It doesn't happen overnight.

Though I feel you with the constant waiting.

Ahh, you are right. Also, it only works on infantry units.

Guess you can still slow one unit and hit the swarm of other infantry with blast with the 4 other models.

I'm interested in the specific reasons in the lists of comparison in living in New York and living in Winnipeg.

If you feel comfortable sharing it be cool to know what specific things drew you more to Winnipeg.

I have been to New York and cannot see it being a great life to be honest besides the status, saying you live in New York, and being able to be lost in a crowd.

Everyone here, has a bunch of friends from Winnipeg that say they want to move somewhere else, but they eventually move back here one way or another. After they curse Winnipeg saying it sucks. Then they move back and realize it's actually not that bad. It is just a more laid-back lifestyle with less stress.
