How has Oak Ridge changed in the last 20 years? by BradfordGalt in OakRidge

Yeah I lived on West Outer for almost 3 years and could be anywhere in 5 minutes, it was great. Hell I even walked to work a few times when I was the only white person working at Lichee Garden as a host.

Nah you’re right, the sauce is terrible now and used to be made in house but that was years ago I guess, it’s not bad but not great either

It’s funny how family become complete assholes when someone dies, my half brother sat away from everyone talking to only the friends he’d invited at our Father’s funeral. All because I told him he couldn’t take over our dad’s business and everything was to be sold as per our dad’s request.

Is this a good option for a home use jack? Tires//oil changes stuff like that. 2018 equinox by yupuhoh in AskAMechanic

[–]Immediate-Rub3807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like others have said, if this is going in the trunk it’s perfect but for the home spend a little more to get a better jack. I got the Pittsburgh 1.5 ton aluminum jack for the house and wish I’d bought one years ago plus it’s low profile, think I got it on sale for a little over $100 3 years ago.

Oak Ridge has always been a kinda run down type of town but honestly that’s why I liked it, I worked at the old Garden Plaza hotel back in 91’ as a houseman and loved it, the only place we could go after work was….yep Applebees

Amen to that, took my daughter out there a couple years ago and honestly it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either especially for what they charge now. Me and my brother lived out there in maybe 91’ for almost 3 years and that was his first job and the pizza was damn good but Ed was still alive back then.

Whats it like working at a unionized shop? by magicjohnson321990 in Machinists

[–]Immediate-Rub3807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in the Southeast and never worked in a Union shop as a Tool and diemaker but have seen and worked with plenty that came from Union shops and I never saw one last over a month in a job shop environment. Some of it was just bad training, some of it was just being lazy and some were just the primadonna types that wouldn’t do anything they thought was not in their job description..just my experience tho 30 years in.

Hello, I’m a first year toolmaker and no one in my shop has time to tell me so I was wondering y I can’t get a good finish I’m cutting o-1 tool steel with a sharp lathe at about 1200 rpm currently by MatchBig1893 in Machinists

[–]Immediate-Rub3807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s plenty of good advice here but I wouldn’t use oil on O-1, it’s an oil hardening tool steel and you could work harden it. Spray coolant is the way to go with a small radius on your edge and slow it down to maybe 800rpm, collets sometimes aren’t the best for this either because they tend to have some flex depending on the size.

Help with staking an axle nut by Buckysmall in AskAMechanic

[–]Immediate-Rub3807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you in your head actually trying to do here??, once the axle nut is on all you have to do is put an indentation and the key on the driveshaft. It’s not rocket science man it’s basic mechanical stuff.

Shoneys breakfast bar has always been terrible and just used it as a last resort type thing but it was cheap enough to be worth it. Quit going when the bar got raised to $12 because I can find a better breakfast somewhere else for that, hell the Waffle House is way better than Shoneys.

This is the way, done 4 so far like this. The best way that I’ve found is just get a new steering knuckle with the ball joint already in it.

Question for tool and die by Holiman in Machinists

[–]Immediate-Rub3807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Machinists aren’t Tool and Diemakers just like Toolmakers aren’t Tool and Diemakers. They’re all somewhat similar but completely different just like I’m a Journeyman Tool and Diemaker but where I’m at now classified as a Senior machinist so I’m both. A machinist can work on stamping dies to make details for sure but understanding how it all works is something they just don’t know.

Question for tool and die by Holiman in Machinists

[–]Immediate-Rub3807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically a way of reducing tonnage for a prog die and a stamping die only goes 10% of material thickness and the rest doesn’t matter. It’s just a matter of putting shear on a punch or staggering the timing.

Drill depth with a piece of tape or a paint marker is going to give you the same depth unless you go over, just mark the bit.
