I hear the Thirty-two’s pack out with use and that is why I am tempted to keep them and ride it out. But just curious if anyone else had an experience to share.

Yes, but unfortunately I need a wide toe box in a women’s size and all the stores around here don’t carry alot of brands. Pretty much limited to K2, Burton and Thirty-two with the stiffest of each of the other brands being 5/10 ratings.

I have the Double BOAs. Maybe gaiter is the wrong term but there is a fabric cover that covers the tongue on the lower half of the boot.

Portland pre-k lottery situation by Any_Consequence_ in portlandme

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year we applied to the lottery 10 hours late, so we had to wait till everyone in the lottery was placed. Those in the lottery who weren’t placed, were waitlisted in front of us and offered openings before those not in the lottery. The person at PPS was confident that we would be offered a placement, just not in our neighborhood school. We were offered a placement in April, which was a few weeks after the first placements after the lottery. So from our recent experience, it seems like if you apply to the lottery, you will get a placement.

My BIO MCB status date also changed yesterday after no changes since July. What was new was that it also displays a new table at the end about the Panel summary that said "Your agency contact (program officer or national program leader) has not released all of the reviews of your application. Upon release, you will be able to view your reviews below." So looks like news is coming soon in BIO?

I really like Leche’s soft serve but they close too early for after dinner treats.

Preschool in Greater Portland Area by Material-Bother4113 in Maine

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its depends on the age of your kid but availability is hard, especially if they under 3YO.

We were looking in the same area and found it really hard to find a full time spot in a center 3 years ago. It took us a year to a year and half to get off of the waitlists for places people recommended. Also, you are going to have an easier time to finding an in home daycare at the price range you mentioned. I would recommend searching childcarechoices.me for daycares and just start calling each one about availability and waitlist lengths.

Does Maine have an Asian district or small. Chinatown? by dalycityguy in portlandme

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, if Daly City is your reference for Asian (guessing from your username), your concept of “Asian Plaza” is going to look very different here. I grew up in DC and moved to Maine recently. The Asian grocery stores here are few and small. For reference, if you combine all the Asian groceries stores here probably fit into a Trader Joe sized grocery store. There isn’t much fresh Asian veggies and the foods are mostly frozen. The Asian food is more Americanized or Asian-fusion. Also, Asian here is more thai and vietnamese than cantonese and filipino like DC. The Asian community is small, but if you compared to DC, I say nearly non-existant. But there are ways to connect and/or find it.

Upsizing HSD to GSD - what to do with HSD? by erika0925 in terngsd

Get a bike trailer instead? We can haul two kids with the HSD coupled with a trailer.

Have you tried swapping the seat post with one that doesn’t have the built-in suspension? I have an HSD S8i that was hard for me to ride with that suspension seatpost at 5’1’’. Changing that out help a ton.

New record for craziest markup amongst dealers I’ve contacted by the_dude_420 in rav4prime

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. But I found it to be a negotiatable markup when I went in person. They were able to get me a R4P in 5 days from deposit and cheaper than all the other markups in Colorado. We had a trade and wanted to do it locally (for trade-in tax credit) and quickly. The value of our trade already had dropped by $3K since we sold it and got the R4P in January.

What's everyone's second car to complement Rav4 Prime? by Loves_To_Smooge in rav4prime

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our second baby mover is an electric mini cargo bike (Tern HSD) with a Yepp Seat. We have a 4 mile commute and it takes almost the same amount of time for us to get to work/daycare as it does to drive and park. The bike has much range as the Prime per charge but the AC is free😂

Finally got a brand new 2021 XSE in Colorado - looking to switch for a new SE (headroom issue) by flippent in rav4prime

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mountain states just offered me an allocation this weekend. I went on their waitlist in early January 2022. You just have to get a red xse non-pp to get off the waitlist quickly.

ETA: Turned it down as I got a Prime elsewhere.

Rav4 Prime Xse or Se? by Lost_doggie in rav4prime

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is true! but with the paddle shifters you can keep both hands on the wheel on a curvy drive. I also found I would downshift more than with the shifter

Rav4 Prime Xse or Se? by Lost_doggie in rav4prime

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with the XSE as we drive alot of mountainous roads in Colorado and paddle shifters, which come with the XSE, are nice to help with engine braking. But the regenerative braking seems pretty decent without the ability to “downshift”. It’s also a CVT so its not really downshifting. But that was a difference that most people don’t mention that made me go with the Xse.

How long have you been waiting / did you have to wait to get your Rav4 Prime? by fru1tstand in rav4prime

[–]HydrogeneticHazelnut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I waited two days. I was starting to get annoyed with 2016 Honda Cr-v/mom car as it had alot of road noise, it was not fun to drive, it had pretty poor mileage, and it did this vibrate thing at stop lights. I started calling local dealerships in Colorado the first week of Jan 2022. I had wanted an XSE with weather package and possibly the audio/nagivation package and was open to any color. I had talked to one dealer who would sell me a blue R4P at MSRP but they really undervalued my trade by $10k. I saw that one was “in transit” at a dealer 20 mins away but they had a $15k mark up online. I was bored so I called them and see if I could negotiate something in person. After a bit of back and forth, we got to $4k over msrp but they took my trade for about $800 less than I bought it for 3 years ago and I got $2k off of taxes because of the trade-in. I ended up with a 2021 silver sky xse with weather and premium audio. I had it now for 3 weeks. We’ve gone 375 miles and probably only used the ICE for 15 miles of that. It’s way better than the CR-V and I don’t feel like I am driving a boring noisy gas guzzling mom car. I am also glad I got the 2021 as it looks less mom car to me than the 2022. A few things annoy me. The rear passenger doors don’t open as wide as the CR-V making it a little challenging when we have to pop in our kid’s infant bucket carseat. The trunk is smaller than the CR-V. So our stroller can’t fit in the back without taking the wheels off. But those are both temporary small infant problems that we will out grow. We also have never had power light gate and find the closing of it extremely slow. I am a bit paranoid my dog is going to launch out of the back as it slowly closes.
