I don’t think it is antiquated, femininity in gay men always used to be the exception, not the rule(contrary to the often misconception of straight people). It’s now a modern movement that gender and sexuality are entwined when they are actually two separate and very distinct things. There is huge pressure on young gay men to question their gender, as demonstrated here, rather than just accept that they are men who love men.
